Brown hair, kinda thick, and tendency to curl, here.
Here's my journey : i used to have a pretty short haircut, buzzed on the sides and longer on top, washed my hair on a daily basis, sometimes multiple times per day because of sport.
I completely changed how i take care of my hair : it's now way longer and i wash it every two or three days now. It looks way better, I think it's more stylish and healthier. Life changing.
When I started paying for my own haircuts I started going to a rather well respected barber who has worked on hair for films.
Now I said fuck ātraditional menās cutsā and get a high texture scissor cut and color it obnoxious colors and patterns by my gf
I get a blow out every week (only time hair gets washed). Styling product is Kevin Murphy Rough.Rider, I test different hairsprays but I find Oribe texturizing spray to be good if you donāt want to be using 3-4 products in the morning.
(Slightly wavy Asian hair)
Do you have an exemple of this kind of haircut ?
Nice feedback by the way, thanks !
Grew it out in lockdown, never looked back
Went the opposite way, grown out to buzz cut lol
Like the look of long, don't like committing to keeping it up
Would you say buzz cut is easier to maintain than long?
Long hair is way easier day to day for me than short hair was
Iāve always had long ish since I was an early teen (now 20 ish) but feeling like a change but at the same time trying to find something easy to maintain cos Iām lazy like that
Hmm thatās what Iām thinking atm
I was already growing mine out when the pandemic hit but wasnāt a fan of how it hung. Went back to a pompadour but bleached it and dyed it pink. But bleaching my roots every four weeks or so was taking a toll on my scalp and hair so Iāve let the color come back. If it was cheaper to have done professionally, Iād do that
I had a very short (but not buzzed) non-haircut. In middle school out if some sense of rebellion I stopped having my hair cut. Turns out I had curly hair. Queue 5 years if struggling with various lengths until finally deciding on a sort of long to medium cut. I figured out a semblance of hair care somewhere in the middle of this. Then my stylist quit. I ended up growing it really long because I was too lazy to find a new one. I finally got a new stylist a few months ago, and started doing cg instead of just using leave in.
Itās somewhat popular in Japan. I posted this earlier but itās not clear what the top is
Actually I would say it depends on what you consider "easy".
If easy means you don't change any of your habits, don't pay any attention to how much you wash your hair (for exemple you keep washing it a lot), the products you use, etc, then it's easier to have your hair short.
If easy means you don't have to go to the hairdresser every two weeks, you don't have to use styling products everyday, but you're ok with using quality shampoo then i would say long hair is easier.
In the end it's also really a matter of style. Some people have a face shape or a hair texture that matches better with short hair and for other people it's the opposite.
Is the color just a temporary thing or is it really colored ?
Itās bleached and dyed.
hard same
actually gonna do a blog/pod on how hair plays into my style expression. I used to get an undercut bc i thought thats what asians should have but now i do a middle-ish part that embraces my naturally wavy hair, which i think helps out my style a lot
Nice, i'll read that
I wore an undercut + bun combo during lockdown because I thought it looked cool. It did not, in fact, look cool on me. On the bright side, I learned that I have curly hair while growing out the bun
Iāve got kind of a shag now. Thinking of getting a fringe to finish the look
learning to love wavy hair is great
still rocking my undercut + topknot bun that i've been growing since 2017. i've gotten it down such that maintenance is super easy: cut it myself every 1-2 weeks, i'm nopoo so i just give it a water rinse about twice a week. at this point i'm just in it to see how long my hair will get lol. it'll probably reach my belly button by the end of the year.
Haircut tomorrow
Usually I grow it until I hate it but rn I just wanted to try a more forward style
2023 vs 2018 iām very happy with my long hair
I'm not saying it's a bad look. I'm saying it's a bad look on me š¤£
Are you still able to bun your hair at that length? I'm thinking of messing around w my hair but I like to keep it tied up for most workouts
Yea it can be tied pretty easily at this length
Also grew mine out during quarantine and never looked back, feels so much better
My 2018 vs 2023
No brainer, it looks way cooler
Growing out my hair was a game changer. Hard to look like a young republican with shoulder length hair lol.
I buzzed mine recently, love it. Prolly not gonna go back
2019 vs 2023
I witnessed a regression in the opposite direction in a friend
I used to have hair, now I have much less hair
Same I like the trend of people growing out their hair but idk if it would look good on me because m y main hair is thinning
same I'm big time baldin
gonna keep shaving back til its gone
Similar situation. I got it trimmed and cleaned up last December so its healthy, luscious, and majestic
I feel like it's getting a little longer and more effort than I'd like tho
Maybe a hair cut is in the stars in a year or two
2019->2023
thankfully no thinning/mbp and now Iām on e ā¤ļø
couldnt be happier w growing out my hair
:-) so happy for you, and i think it's a great look.
For me longer hair is easy asf, I donāt wash with shampoo or conditioner at all, my hair dries out and I get crazy dandruff if I do, I just clean it with water every day and then use a tiny bit of scented oil so it smells of something.
I meant it takes so long to dry and brush
Fair enough, mines curly so I air dry it and brushing ruins the curls
Tried something different recently
Some products Iām using rn
I need the Kevin Murphy tbh
Iām using shitty OGX conditioner lmao
Need the KM conditioner and leave in
Also going to tell my stylist I want curtain bangs next time I go. You can see them appear kinda naturally already but would be cool to define it more
2022>2023
I had the swoop for over 10 years and finally embraced the middle part. Still growing it out, not sure when I'll stop
Iirc youāre in NYC. I got a blowout from salon V last time I was up there and they use KM
Nice, thereās a lot places to find it, I need to just go to the salon and get a haircut
And cop their product
Iām using the stimulate me wash, rinse and thick again treatment. All the blow out products after I wash and varying styling stuff. Rough rider is the best for what I need and honestly all I used for years.
I grew my hair out for like 2 years. But got kind of tired with the upkeep. Went full buzz
Now I am recovering from buzzing my hair for like 4 months and trying to figure out wtf I'm gonna do. Might bleach it and see how the bleach buzz feels for a few weeks
Kind love the buzz just because it's so low maintenance and I can shower at night without waking up to crazy bed head
You look good both ways tbh
Agreed
Did the long top/short sides+back all through school, let it grow out in 2019 and all through the pandemic, zipped it off last last spring into a choppy mohawk and have been partyrocking with that for a bit
The party hawk is sick as hell. I almost did something similar but had a job interview for a DOD contractor coming up so opted for the buzz haha
Might have to try an undercut again tbh, I really liked them when they were "in"
Hey there's still time bud, I think you could pull it off v well unless there's more gov work in ur future
I wanna switch things up soon I think but also don't have too much flexibility working in medicine and all
maintenance is a prick
Can you give us some details about the utility of each product ? I have to say I'm a big noob concerning hair care products
damn big hair glow up
Thanks! I try
Been all over the place with my thick and wavy black hair. Had a sort of mild mullet mohawk through most of college, then went with a basic fade to be more 'professional' in my office job. Tried growing it out for a while and then finally about 8 years ago landed on an undercut with longer length on top and haven't looked back.
Powder puff is like a volumizing powder, applied at the root it gives you vertical lift. Think Asian side of the head stick out hair type of deal. I use it to reinforce the root area.
Rough Rider is a gritty matte paste. Itās a very strong hold without feeling stiff like strong hold hair spray or gel.
DooOver is dry shampoo. I use it for next day hair if I had used rough rider the day before
Thanks for the rec! Right now I just use Old Spice pomade lol but I've been thinking about upgrading
Thanks, very clear !
Does anyone cut their own hair here
Paying a barber $35 every month is getting annoying
Yeah this pomade is good, itās the one my barber makes
I like northern lights and American gardens
If youāre an undercut bro itās not hard to 0 or 2 your sides. Probably go half as often if you do.
Use another phone behind you with a ring light and FaceTime the phone so you can line up the back
0 is easy but not everyone is a 0 sides kind of guy
Well I do like a side part
With tapered sides
Iāll pay over a hundred but I only get it cut every few months
Hair is one of the most important parts of your look
In the words of rick Owens only hair and shoes matter and thereās truth to that
So due to laziness and never really caring about how my hair looked I ended up with this mess for around 13 years.
Trimmed it myself, kept it tied up 90% of the time, lost a lot of hair due to poor maintenance.
My hair is very fine so keeping it long was a terrible choice
2021-2023
Took the plunge and chopped it. Hovered around this length until today
I just let my hair stylist do whatever she liked this time.
After being bound to the same long hair for so long it feels liberating to have it this short lol
@De La Joel looking good king
Thanks mew!!
I was paying like $200+/mo on my hair at one point
@De La Joel new hair really suits you!
Long hair stays winning, one 15Ā£ haircut every 6 months
Thank you!
Would be curious if you have any tips for caring for very fine hair; I feel like I still have very little idea how to care for it
Also your new haircut looks great! Been itching to chop my pretty long hair off for a while and this is a further push š
I just made a whole lot of little changes to avoid breakage. bought silk pillowcase, only blow dry with low heat, avoid tying in a ponytail and wear hats less.
š Thanks!
So beards. which trimmers do you guys use?
Clean shave, Braun 9 Pro.
sorry is this too questioney for this thread?
If youāre looking for suggestions Iād say something like this would look good on you.
Which is a pretty simple cut and maybe a clay pomade or something
Lockharts matte clay is always pretty decent
thanks I think I want to try a longer beard though. sorry for going off topic
Well the beard you can do however, I was mostly pointing at the hairstyle
Shorter sides tapered would look good
What you have now isnāt bad either, maybe some pomade or clay
thanks yeah I should go to the barber again soon
I swapped to Redken anti frizz conditioner from generic OGX
Mother of god
So much better
i should get some nice shampoos and conditioners
any recs?
my barber makes some, might try that out tbh
Redken, Kevin Murphy
anything budget friendly
I use KM or Oribe
Oribe is my travel stuff
Redken is affordable and pretty good.
Paul Mitchell tea tree set from a licensed salon isnāt bad either
The Amazon sellers have fake products so be wary
which redkens?
Brew daily shampoo
conditioner too?
Thatās the only one Iāve used
Yeah
Not bad but nothing special
But I wouldnāt use it daily if youāre not getting sweaty and dirty
the oribe stuff smells super nice and feels good too but definitely $$$
It is š
I do prefer the KM stuff over Oribe (other than the texturizing hairspray from Oribe. That stuff very good) both scent, texture and lather.
What should I do to it?
kinda up to u king, whose hair do you see that you like?
Not sure what your style is but I would opt for something with more bang length, sideswept possibly but have fun and explore options there.
And Iām an undercut advocate.
I had long hair for years so I have no idea what short hair styles are our there.
all I know is I hate the brocoli hair
A bit āplayed outā but even a simple pomp or classic mens cut (side parting and use product to hold)
If you opt against the bangs
this is what I used to have. So yeah, no idea what to do.
what do you mean by pomp?
Easy example.
I donāt particularly think your old hair is bad
But if you want a shorter length this is a common option
I will probably just do this again. Its simple and works. Its what I did when I chopped off the long hair.
looks good
I think the long hair looks good if you can still grow that go for it
current hair is kinda in that akward in between stage
Im not going to grow it out again, it was too much work and looked terrible all the time.
I think a crew cut is my best option
These pictures look good. Iād lean into your hairās texture a bit more. Your current pics look like youāre combing it straight with a strong hold product. Maybe try scrunching something lighter into your hair and letting it air dry
try to avoid the self judgement. sometimes you just want to have your hair tied back
i do like the half up half down though
Yeah, if you want to tie it back sometimes, tie it back
I sometimes have to remind myself that not everyday can be a good hair day
Hey guys, do yāall have any recommendations on haircuts/products for long hair? I think I want to keep it around this length but my hair is thick and straight enough that it juts out on the sides like this pretty often
Not a product recommendation but something that works for me : you can try to wash you hair less often. Washing dries your hair and it can add to this volume effect when you have thick hair, so try to limit you to 2 or 3 shampoos a week.
I shampoo maybe once every 2 months fwiw
but condition several times a week
Oh I think this might be it
I shampoo and condition around twice a week, havenāt tried only conditioning though
Not everyday but yeah Iāll still rinse typically if Iām not cowashing
You just need to experiment a bit and learn what works for your hair and see the signs of when it needs what, ie when itās getting too oily and needs a shampoo, when itās too dry and needs a condition, when it looks good and just needs a rinse
Does rinsing dry out your hair? Iām guessing not as much as shampooing does but it should wash out the oils no
It doesnāt really no
oil isnt water soluble
Oh duh lmao
I shampoo every week.
Agree with this, my hair is a similar length and I have similar problems. I find it looks best after 3ish days of not washing and am often loathe to wash it once I get to that point š
If your hair looks good and isn't greasy why wash
Product buildup and oil makes hair heavy. If you heat style or have a more vertical style you probably wash more
If you have long hair you generally shouldnt need to use a lot of product
Unless you have long wavy or curly hair, in which case you may need products for curl definition or to prevent frizz
quality conditioner helps more than product in those cases i have found
I have more medium hair and I find both useful
Though product use hasn't scaled linearly with hair growth, I'm basically using the same amount
yea i use a little leave in conditioner sometimes. since switching from GMX cheap conditioner to redken it has been way less necessary
I use conditioner, leave in, and mousse...
Maybe I should try this
its worth a try. i dont think i can go back
was pretty immediately noticable for me
oh yeah I have wavy and frizzy hair but leave in conditioner is the way
I use Cantu which I think is a UK only brand designed for afro-caribbean hair but it works for me
Iāve seen Cantu cream in the US. I think they have it at Target
I wish I could get away with only conditioner, but if I donāt use something with hold my hair turns into a frizz ball as it dries
Hello hair friends
Need a good hairstyle to show my barber
Any suggestions
I want something not too short, classic and good for a round face
this is really vague
do u have a picture of someones hair u like
Iām
This looks nice
Childhood: bowl cut. College: ponytail, died purple a couple of times. Then, in 1998, I buzzed it to ~1/2" and I've kept it the same ever since.
childhood: bowl cut. high school: bowlcut. College: short with part similar to 2nd. Covid: Long
I think you've answered your own question š I would show these to your stylist. short hair with the 3/4 part and potentially faded on the sides is a v common look
Childhood: short
Middle and high school: slightly longer to poof
College: Long
Last year: actually styled long
I shaved my head in college for a semester lol
And then moved to a hairstyle like the one above
Whatās the best way to style hair like that
minoxidil and finasteride for 5yrs. I've never felt better about myself (yes I know I could've just shaved)
used to rock a disconnected brushed up hairdo but I got tired of that so I'm rocking a 2-block cut (I am always late to trends lol)
we stan a shaved king but we also stan growth if that's what you want
Successfully fighting density loss is a battle. Hope your results are positive.
Flights to Turkey may be cheaper than you think
I want MGKs hair method
His doc is in the US and saved him.
a lot better! my day 0 and day 730. my hairline is still high af tho. 2x 747ās š©āāļøšØāāļø can land on my forehead
My barber introduced me to hair clay about a year ago, and I found that I like it a lot. The things that I hate about hairspray was that it smells bad, looks artificially shiny, and I found it hard to not get too much in and...hair clay has none of those problems.
Hairspray is still a thing?
I have like 6 diff hairspray. Itās definitely still a thing
The 60s had hairspray that gave you cancer and killed the ozone but the hold was amazing.
How often do yāall get maintenance haircuts? (Like haircuts to get rid of split ends and stuff)
i typically get a trim every two weeks to clean up the sides/back and thin out the top. 3 weeks if i cant make scheduling work, but after week 2 it starts getting a bit messy. ideally i'd like to go weekly though - i prefer not to make it look so obvious that i just got a haircut, and even at two weeks it's a pretty significant difference. stock photo but this is basically my cut, plus i have thick wavy hair that grows really quickly. i'd assume if you have a different hairstyle you may not need to go as frequently.
I meant for longer hair, but damn that must add up!!
every six months or so for my longer hair, but it doesnt really split much
For all the long haired fellas, how are yall wearing caps? Do you just go hair down then cap over? Do you tie it low? How does one stop the cap from riding up constantly from the back and messing up your hair? Ive experimented a bunch but it never works.
just wear it over or put it in a bun and out the back
never had this issue
mine is more medium length now (too short to tie), but when it was shoulder length i would do the tie in a bun and out the back move most of the time
i think even just a shorter middle part would look great
For longer hair a picture of what style you want can be helpful
But also I understand if that's a pain to find
Consider perm?
Nah u have nice texture imo
I think u could unlock it further if u found the right products
Idk I donāt have anything close to curly hair though
Yeah I donāt have that texture but itās āachievableā if thatās what youāre hoping for
Might also be cause my hair is layered? Idk but ill try just pulling it through for the snapbacks
Boys, what we thinking?
Moustache or just stubble?
Currently also growing my hair (Top Right), but will probably cut it due too curly & not nice on days I dont apply Pomade...
I prefer the stubble
Right middle pic is looking š
Thatās a good hair length In that pic too
Just do pomade every day š
I am close to getting my hair cut.
The back is a long, curly mess.
When I comb it, hair is falling out (which is normal).
But to tame it so it looks nice everyday, I thought products most/everyday isnt good?
I use products everyday
You could do a style with a short taper on the side and back up to a scissor cut
Leave the top long but taper it shorter towards the back of the head
That will eliminate the curling and such at the back and sides but leave you with a style-able look
I like the curls though, they look good imo
ye true could actuallt taper side and back.
WIll see what barber says!
you mean like a 1-3 on the sides?
Never used mousse also.
What are it's advantages?
ah I see interesting.
I used to do undercuts and side parts, trying to emulate my favorite movies and internet inspirations. Now I embrace my wavy hair texture and go for volume! It adds a fun flavor to workwear and outdoorsy clothing
I plan to change barbers -- my hair is thinning at 22 and while there's ways to fix and cuts to go around it, he says it isn't possible and just gives me the same cut even though the cut doesn't really fit my hairstyle, I feel
it's a fade and all but he still takes stuff off the middle? i don't know, i'm bad with hair lol
Yeah, sounds like a very good reason to find a new barber. Someone who isn't taking what you want into account when it's your hair is honestly kind of rude
lame
My barber chats with me about hairstyles, recommends products and hair care stuff
Heās great
my stylist on saturday only said "you have beauitufl hair" and "not bad for 1 year without a cut" to me and it was fabulous. 25% tip.
I started dating my stylist. I love her so much.
goals
If yāall have never steamed your scalp. Itās glorious.
yeah, i don't know why he said hair regrowth isn't possible when
- Minoxidil
- Scalp massages
- Rosemary oil
- Needling
all exist as low-end options that spare me a trip to the doctor and i've only just added two of those
Can minoxidil fix a bald patch on my beard
I canāt grow a beard because of it
Wouldn't hurt to try
I have a nice beard but traded hair on my head for it
For the beard you could dermaroll
Salem shared some insight on Tret for hair growth in skincare thread as well
how effective is dermaroll?
link?
I have seen some positive results with friends using it on beard in conjunction with topicals. Personally I do not use it for facial hair only for wrinkle reduction and hairline
what about for thinning
on the head
https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1161028995719123105/1169130941994770432
It increased my corner density but I do not really have any recession or anything to start with.
I will warn you that you will bleed and it is a bit owwies
The theory is there. Increase blood flow and circulation. Donāt do it the same days you use Tret tho because it can go systematic.
i cut my own hair recently since its unironically gonna be ~70 bucks per trim, and i require some maintenance every few months or so. i think i did an okay job
So this is the current state of my hair
What should I do?
Help lol
I don't want to cut my losses but I also want my hair back
Like going bald would scare me
I mean going and cutting it all off would
you have three options, maybe four:
- lean into it and shave it off
- lean into it with a certain hair style
- conceal it with a certain style
- try to gain some back via medication or procedure intervention
I'm doing #2 and then eventually #1 because I think #4 can be either expensive, ineffective, or both
I think most people go for #3 and then #1 or #4 eventually
I have been using medicine -- minoxidil, rosemary oil, a massager
What kind of haircut would cover this though
you can cut off portions to make it look intentional
or draw attention away from it
that's the whole purpose of the comb over (with the caveat that if it's something like that, it draws attention to it)
but it's hard, and there's no "right" answer
and because #4 (ultimately all of them, but that one especially) varies in effectiveness from person to person, it can be especially difficult to figure out what works best for you from your perspective immediately
I was going to go to a barber and ask them about ut
It
I think the massager is actually pulling haid
Hair
that seems counterproductive
you'll definitely want to keep cutting split ends tho
keep it healthy
my friend just made a fair point
"no one is looking at you from that angle"
yeah
Got a haircut
After that pic
I don't know if this is good or bad but I told them to do whatever to it
my old fashioned parents said it was "different in a good way"
translation: us boomers aren't crazy on it because it's not old fashioned but it's better than this
The after pic now that I have a chance to send
Improvement or nah
Lighting and angle but seems good.
I intend to take a selfie like the other one in better lighting
big improvement
The haircut is a real improvement.
If I were you I think I would have shaved it all, though. You seem to have a really good beard nature, so a bald head would look cool on you, with a nice thick but trimmed beard
I didn't see the point of giving it up just yet though, I plan to keep trying to regrow it and it doesn't look/feel as bad with this cut
I don't feel sad or insecure about it anymore because my hair looks good for once
glad to have a barber I can trust now though
Y'all I've finally switched to using Kevin Murphy Free Hold why have I just been using grocery store product all these years? This is so much better than Old Spice
Like, why did I think spending $30 on a tub of product that I use every day for 3 months is too expensive but spending $50 getting McDonald's delivered is fine?
K.M. Is easily the best hair products Iāve used.
I have used almost their entire catalog other than the color stuff because they donāt have vivids
I also use their body sets but theyāre discontinued
Other than the gel/mousse/pomade etc. what else do you think is worth looking into?
i use gatsby hair spray to keep the pomade in place sometimes? but tbh im kinda just using it to use it up
does KM smell strongly of anything? im pretty put off by how much old spice reeks
I used to have patches, I just kept shaving it down until it came in full. Took a couple years though
if you're balding and have $$$ just go to Turkey and get a hair transplant
Hey all - have basically had the same hairstyle for the last 10 years, if not my whole life with the exception of the mid 00's shaggy mop craze -- i've been growing it out since mid-August and wondering what next steps might be. Looking at something like the first 3 attached pics. My current hair is in pics 4+5. Mostly curious if I should go for a trim before growing it out a bit more... the sideburns are starting to get a little frizzy as well as the edges and back.
Aside from that, any ideas for product to achieve the textured look w/ some hold? I've been using a matte pomade for a bit, but I think it's a little heavy for this longer length
forgot to attach 4 + 5
Whatever wash and rinse+treatment you need tbh. The hairsprays are a little on the light side so if you do something where vertical hold matters (already use rough rider) you might want to look into a different hairspray.
Stimulate me and with thick again is my go to
If you hear style your hair the blow dry stuff is really good.
Angel wash is good if you want soft hair.
I also really like the scalp spa scrub. When I was peeling from bleaching it was a lifesaver. Felt so nice.
Someone help Rej
š”š”
I'ma just buzz it dw
@rej fwiw I use my momās curl foam to get a texture similar to that
which is not something I would have tried if I went about it scientifically lmao
I think just trying diff products will help u learn what works idk
How much do you want to grow it out? If you want it long, there isnāt much you can do about the sides and back standing up (if thatās what you meant by frizzy). Embrace hats for a bit
But also talk to your stylist about your goals. They might suggest cutting the top a bit for balance, but thatāll depend on how you want to style it
I like the tapered edges of the cuts I posted, but they're both longer than my current hair. Mostly wondering if I should get the edges trimmed and continue growing or grow to length and then cut?
Trimming is a good idea to keep the ends healthy, but make sure your stylist knows youāre trying to grow it out
The inspo pictures you posted look like their sides are blended up into the top. They taper to shorter than your sides are now afaict
Iād show them to your stylist. You might be able to have a variant of those cuts now, especially if youāre willing to use a matte hold product to slick it back
I wanna grow a beard but
Thereās that one little bald my right cheek
embrace it
shave ur other cheek so it matches
Grow the beard so long it falls over the bald spot and covers it
Well i didnt get the government job I wanted so I think I am going to bleach my hair
Going to grow out my slick back a bit and go for something like this
minus the head tats
mannnn
I think I'm through my bleached hair phase but whenever I see a picture of myself with bleached hair it starts talking to me like the green goblin mask
Ive never done it before
thought I gotta try it once
it's fun
super easy to do yourself
Donāt chem burn yourself
how easy it is depends on you r hair colour though, I did it once myself and came out astonishingly ginger because of coppery undertones to my hair that I did not know I had.
I'm going bald and trying to enjoy hair on head while I can.
if you have a good barber, theyāll definitely be able to trim your hair while knowing you want to achieve this look and ultimately grow it out. Iāve found it super helpful to show my barber pics of exactly what i want my hair to look like š also they can probably recommend styling products too. I personally use a matte pomade like you mentioned, but i hear you on the heaviness of those.
wanted to add that sea salt spray can be a good alternative to a heavier pomade but it depends on your hair thickness š
I've like sea salt spray in the past just never remember to get more when i'm at a place that would actually sell it
for sure, totally get that. iāve bought it directly from my barber shop because whatever he uses on my hair smells really good lol š
Whatās your hair care routine? I would look at my wash routine before my styling product if I were worried about a flakey scalp
Also, you should see a dermatologist if you can
For my hair I find a good leave in conditioner to be almost as good as a light gel for most days. I've been using knot today for a long time and it's been great
Assuming your hair doesnāt get greasy, try washing less often. Maybe skip every other wash. That might help with the flakes
For product, it really depends on how much hold and what sort of texture you want
And what texture your hair has naturally
Hm
Is your conditioner silicone free?
A common rec for this is also to space out shampooing your hair while conditioning regularly
Shamp could be stripping too much oil from your scalp and drying it out, a common cgm method is to cowash (wash + condition) every other day or so while limiting shampoo to once or twice a week
Or even less frequent
Ya there's no one size fits all approach, and I took a stepwise method of gradually cutting down on shampoo use
To answer the original question, I use a hair wax from sachajuan to style when my hair is on the shorter side
Might also recommend using a silicone scalp massager in the shower to manually exfoliate so you don't get as much flake during the day
@Mochice what style are you going for?
Right needs a higher hold product than left.
And hair texture matters quite a bit
Revisited the ordinary hair serum. Kinda hate it.
Better products exist for the lashes and brow stuff too.
Looking for some advice regarding my hair and facial hair.
Kinda of a weird intro but I want a haircut that gives off a vibe of me, something simple and easy to maintain, but that is presented well, I've been doing my haircuts alone since I was a teen with a trimmer (9mm) and have not seen a barber for almost a decade.
As for facial hair I settled recently (last few months) on maintaining a goatee, I don't like my face clean shaven.
Would love to know what would work best for me in your opinion
It's a little hard to tell what your hair texture is like at the current length, that'll have a big impact on what will look best. From what I can tell you have a finer hair texture which means it'll probably look best if you grow it out longer and style it to add volume.
My best advice is to find a good stylist and work with them to find the right style for you. There will likely need to be some experimentation in your cut and style regimen before you find what you like best.
The safest options for men's cuts usually are shorter on sides and longer on top, and then using product to style it and give it direction
The other thing I noticed is I think your facial hair would look cleaner if you shaved your cheeks and tried to create sharper lines around your mustache and goatee. I recommend a safety razor if you want defined edges
Yeah I usually shave my cheeks.
But what do you mean by sharper lines, might you have some example pictures I could compare?
Thanks, I'll have to find a good barber, hope I'll be able to do so soon.
And yes I have a straight fine very dark brown hair
Idk if this is necessarily the best example but if you see RDJ's goatee has a very clear edge where it ends and the clean-shaven part begins. That's pretty nitpicky, and I think if you normally shave your cheeks you're fine and don't need to worry about it. If those kinds of sharp edges were something you wanted, then I'd recommend looking at a safety razor.
If you happen to live in either Chicago or SF I can recommend a barber but otherwise look on Yelp. Don't feel like you have to see someone who specializes in men's hair, lots of good stylists can do men and women.
Hair update
It's messy but like fun messy
Looking good!
Your hair has great texture, I like the slightly messy look
Amazing locks!
What do you guys do in between haircuts
Like my sideburns and around my ears grows out so quick
But in trying to get my hair longer
It jsut looks shit in that area
Suffer
tuck it behind your ears
Have you told your barber that this happens? They might be able to do something different with your cut to make it better?
Sometimes when you're growing your hair out you have an awkward intermediate phase. When I was changing my hairstyle earlier this year I had to grow it out without texturizing for a couple months and it started looking pretty bad towards the end of the month
The other thing you can do is get haircuts more often
It not long enough yet
The problem when my hair gets longer is itās curly
And it sticks out randomly in spots if I try to brush it straight
Idk what to do beside get haircuts more often which I canāt afford
You can use product to hold down your sides
I'm late to the hair product discussion, but gotta plug my new favorite styling product Malin and Goetz's Sage Styling Cream. I deal with dry hair, especially in the winter, and I feel like this gives me decent shaping without a structured hold while also making my hair feel more moisturized.
Embrace hats. Theyāre a lifesaver the awkward phase of growing your hair
Any product recs
If your barber sells it, Kevin Murphy
^
My barber sells his own stuff
Itās pretty good, been using it for a while
But idk
Like he makes it himself?
Also if you like what you're using that's totally fine
Yeah he has a company
Do you have suggestions for other stuff
My suggestion would be Kevin Murphy--it's only officially sold at salons but you can find people reselling it on Amazon. I use Free Hold, but not 100% sure what the best product for you would be based on your hair texture
Some other people might have other suggestions
Hmm
The Amazon stuff is fake just saying.
Fake beauty products is a really big issue with Amazon.
I like oliver woods stuff
Used to brush up my bangs and have my sides have a high fade
Now that I've gained weight and my face got rounder, I've resorted to having hairstyles with a longer top and have my bangs fall down although I'm still looking for my "perfect hairstyle" that would always be my go-to
I never even thought of that, that's good to know. I buy from my salon, I won't recommend people buy it online now.
Itās not just KM even Paul Mitchell and redken
Always buy from salons or distributors. Even then authorized sellers are better.
I wouldnāt buy Oribe from anyone but my distributor
My hair journey - beautiful in teens, thinning in 20ās. Now Iāve joined the bald gang.
Nice
Graduated to a post hair world
What kind of clothes do you wear? This will change the answer.
I would grow it first
Not much to cut .. if you want to get a low taper fade on the sides maybe and keep the top growing
Oh
Work on that first
See what type of hair you have, how it naturally lays
Then you can decide a hairstyle that works with that
You can trim down the back and sides into a fade if you wanted. Unless you wanted a longer hairstyle
Maybe something like this
Not sure what your hair texture is but you vaguely look like Rafe Cameron from outer banks and I think he has nice hair
oh god it really is the 90s again
Not economically
I wish lol
Iām unsure what my hair color is tbh
Another lighting scenario ā indoors at night
Another photo but in more neutral lighting
If itās blonde, what level is it?
I'd call it dirty blonde, not sure of a "level." I know mine also gets more blonde when exposed to sunlight, especially in the summer.
Also from my experience, some people are real sticklers about what they call "blonde" for some reason. When I've called myself blonde, I've heard a lot of "you're not ACTUALLY blonde."
Yeah it seems like itās definitely dirty blonde
It looks cool-toned
In this picture
It doesnāt look particularly warm-toned
I heard some hair stylists call me āmediumā blonde or āsandy blondeā
I think medium blonde is a stretch
It would have to be a bit lighter
It definitively does not matter
Hair categories are abstract and functional, not some distinct thing that you need to know
I mean it does matter to some extent
Some people can be as blonde as platinum blonde or as dark as black
Yes I know, but if you can look at your hair and see its color you do not need to think about it that much
Plus, hair color is basically the least important variable in hair styling
And hair care
Save for if it's dyed
Echoing what Yurt said. If color is important to you, you could consider dying it, but I think the most important thing is that YOU like it. I think it looks great and calling it one type of blonde over another isn't going to change that.
You'll always find someone who calls your hair/style/color/whatever something different, but your understanding of yourself is what's paramount
Would dying my hair lighter be much easier though?
Since itās already light?
Just curious
Youād have to bleach
And tone
I don't have experience with dying/bleaching, personally, but I think it ultimately depends on how much of a change you want.
For example, highlights if done properly can brighten up your hair without drastically changing the colour. But if you have a specific colour/shade in mind, it'd likely require a full dye job.
I'd recommend finding an example of what your end goal is as a starting point.
this is gas, I know you do CGM but what products do you use?
lol I use cheap shit tresemme conditioner and an Aveda leave in
Silicone free though
Sorry for never replying earlier
np. any gel or just the leave-in conditioner?
I used to use mousse or gel when it was shorter
idk if that's actually correlated with the length
I just kind of wanted to do less stuff
I probably should use gel but whatever
i never use gel either
what leave in do you use? sorry if you mentioned it already lol
Left is LA Looks gel which came recommended on the internet, right is my wife's Verb gel that which I think made nicer clumps but is more expensive. Still very much figuring things out
biolage or this one from sephora i forget the name of
I like Oliver Woods products, started using them because Jeremy Allen White used them for The Bear haha
What do you think? Does it look good? And kind of a weird question but what do you think about my personality based on the haircut?
Haircut looks good. I donāt think it makes a strong enough statement to judge your personality
I think this haircut looks great! If you like it like this I think you'll be good with this cut.
Since you asked for feedback, I would say that my personal preference would be to grow it out a bit longer, especially on the sides. At your next haircut you can ask your barber to go up 1-2 guard sizes from what you did this time, and see how you like that length. As long as it's longer on top and you're styling it properly I think you'll be good
What products are you using?
None usually, he just put some wax when he finished the Job
I agree as well that it's a little bit too short, I measured 6mm so I'll maybe try 7 or even 9 next time to see if that changes how things look.
off duty cop, but thats the mustache talking
Growing my hair out but not loving how thick itās coming in the back. Worth having a barber trim it back a bit to even it out with the rest of my head or do I need to just push through it
push through
up to you really but will just slow it down. imo best strat is to mostly power through and grow it out and then clean it up after.
tbh i think it actually looks pretty cool the way it is now. probably exactly the way i'd style it if my hair wasnt so thick/wavy/stubborn to have it at that length
Yeah i agree, most of the times i come back from the hairdresser with my hair shorter than i expected and it can really slow down your growing journey
+1 for pushing through. Sometimes layers can help cut bulk and give shape without costing too much grow progress, but honestly yours looks great as-is
The haircut wore off so I'm back at self-loathing
Time to schedule another haircut
Real as hell
Nah like
So I'll feel confident because of my clothes, right
And then someone will post a pic from an unflattering angle where my forehead shows more than my hair
So then I get upset
I mean not the exact same problem but I get it
My biggest problem with this picture is that it's blurry as hell
How are you even having thoughts about how you look based on this picture
I am a simple idiot
Same
My friend says my hair looks good and I should keep going
Maybe I just need a cut
Yeah, I was just being goofy over nothing, disregard me
Your hair looks good
This is actually a more recent pic I think
Hair?
No thanks I've got plenty
Any suggestions for a styling product suitable for my medium-length wavy/curly hair?
I need something offering good hold but also flexible for wavy or straight styles.
Currently using 'VO5 MATT CLAY' but it doesn't maintain well as the day progresses or when my hair dries; it tends to get curly.
UK based also!
I do like that side-part style/look.
Sometimes even slickback, but the curvy waves adds to it which is nice.
What sort of look are you going for? Do you want curl definition, frizz control, or something else?
A side part swept back kinda look.
Basically what I have in the Left Pic.
I'm just looking for good (UK) recommended products that keep a good hold.
I've seent his. But again, no idea what to go for / what brand
Ah, got it. I couldnāt tell if you wanted the look from the left or right picture. I donāt know what product would be best for keeping curly hair straight. Iāve only ever done that with blow drying
FWIW, I think your hair looks great curly. Sorry I canāt be more helpful
lol np.
Fwiw I have medium long hair and this is what I use
https://cremocompany.com/products/sculpting-clay
Hold is good for the very matte finish tho Iāve noticed some times it can make my hair feel too greasy if I need to get a lot of hold. Think it should be easy to get in the UK since I was recommended the brand by a UK barber
Cremo US
Sculpting Clay

Why after I book a haircut in 30 mins does my hair start looking decent to me
my barber always scolds me when I'm going in to get haircuts cz he's like this is the perfect length
i just wanted to try an experiment and have grown out my hair for like ~4 months and its gotten to the point its driving me nuts and i don't think it looks very good most days anyway
so just cutting it back to generic white guy haircut #2
4 months is kind of too short a time to grow from short hair
yea i just don't have the dedication to go from here
easier to deal with and prefer it shorter
My heads cold now
I'm trying to grow mine out so I can see the waves properly and try a good middle part
but still going to my barber every 2-3 months to fix it up a bit
Itās part of the circle of life: too short -> just right -> need a trim -> too short
Hair band is a good idea, I just prefer quitting tbh
i have aquired the dyson hair dryer
its lit tbh
ah, the brexit blower
I wish I could justify buying one
theyāre shockingly nice
yeah i never used to dry my hair but now its so much easier and looks so much better lol
Does it not have the same damage risk as a diffuser?
@Yurt idk but its winter and having sopping wet hair sucks! i don't usually dry it all the way just get it to a semi dry liveable state
the temp is def not that extreme
I plop mine which helps a little... But yeah
Got a perm to celebrate 30 and honestly no going back I love it so much
Gorgeous hair
Going to a haircut place this afternoon. What should I do?
Can't go wrong with long on top short on sides
Iāve had my hair long since I left high school. Shortest Iāve had it was just off my shoulders. During the lockdowns it got to its longest around halfway down my back. Iām considering going for a new hairstyle this year as I usually have it tied up in a bun or loop, but I still want to keep it long-ish (I do like the convenience of tying my hair up)
From the top to sides the difference is great because it used to be a skin fade quiff so where I part it I usually just part the area where the length is drastically different. But it looks a little weird. Maybe it's just me but is my hair part too high or is there anything else making my hairstyle look weird?
Ngl u got nice hair gang
I think it looks good
Thanks man
How to better style my hair without the use of wax/hair gel?
Atm Iām afraid goes from Old Navel Captain pony tail to Early Ozzy Osbourne when let down -and nothing in between
Any suggestions on how to fix it?
both of these look good to me im not sure what the problem is
I think the problem is theyāre not really styles that I think suit me
why not? what would be a style which suits you? i think both of these styles are pretty versatile!
easily dressed up or down
depends on your goals but like...probably not much else you can do if you're not going to use product?
You could use a texturizing powder. I think it would suit your hair, actually.
Could blow dry to heat style. I also second texture powder or maybe sea salt spray but your hair is kinda short for the latter. Would depend on what you want it to look like
True it is easy for that. Iāve just had it for years and gotten a bit bored of it. Maybe want something more fun and expressive
understandable! thats a better question to ask yourself
What exactly?
"what do i want to express through my hairstyle"
True, idk exactly
What could I express through my hairstyle?
if thatās not rhetorical, actually a lot of things. hairstyles that require a lot of maintenance convey meticulousness and rigidity, whereas hair that requires less styling looks dynamic, and a haircut that looks like you let your hair grow out seems casual and laid-back. if youāre not vibing with the long hair as it is, you can style it differently (half up/half down, barrettes, a ponytail or a braid, bun or claw clip, etc) and see if any of those gives you hints as to what looks good on your face. the 12pell barbershop instagram also has some useful videos to demonstrate places you could go with the length you currently have if youāre interested in a cut
I would like something that doesnāt require much styling and is more dynamic
I will also have a look at that instagram page, but Iām currently looking to cut it too much
I like having the option to tie up my hair when easy/necessary
Does anyone here know anything about dutasteride
Hello
I need better hair care or something
How often do you shampoo
Problem is my hair is getting longer but idk it seems to get like
Spikey?
Every 2 days or so
Pic?
Few mins Iāll take one
Itās not styles at all really rn tho
I mean here I havenāt gotten it cut in a while
And itās just long and kinda all over the place
@Yurt - too tall
it just feels a bit wavy, I don't think that's a bad thing
Kinda looks shit
I've been following the curly girl method and it's done pretty good for my hair
Yeah that's what I thought and I think this confirms it
My hair is curly if I just kinda scrunch it and dry it
Iāll post a pic
that's the dream then, you should own it
This is what my hair was like when I wore it short as a kid
This how I usually get it cut on the left
But the right is how it is out of the shower if I donāt add product
Honestly wavy/curly look good
The sorta hair texture that a lot of people dream about
Yeah but
Idk how to get that to stay
Or look good
I donāt think it looks good with my current hair length
Iām a bit big and chubby so curly hair just adds to that I think
It does make me look skinnier
????
Idk
I have body issues
Yeah igi
imo hair has to be pretty long before it effects perception of weight one way or the other
Should I cut it or?
I mean the sides
And back
Iām jsut not sure what to do with it
Besides my normal haircut
I would go to a barber you really trust and like
with mine I'm trying to grow mine out to get curls, but I still get the sides and back trimmed a tiny bit every 2 months
I donāt have one I trust really
I wanna cut my own hair tbh
Cuz
Itās too expensive
Shits costing me like $500+ a year
And doesnāt even look great
Any advice
I don't really have any advice on cutting your own hair, I've finally found a barber I can trust since I've moved to the US and it's gonna be sad when I have to leave
What about styling
this is what I'm currently doing with mine
Thank you
i feel like this might be obtainable for me
the question as always is, is it the man or the hairstyle
good hair
hair good
Hair
That's the epitome of fashion. Is it the model or is it the clothes/hair/jewellery/etc.?
My bad lol

I need to learn how to style my long hair or get a new hair cut
I usually keep it in a bun or a loop for work and simplicity, but idk how to style for off-the-clock
Any tips?
braiding, half-pony, high pony, high bun, & low bun are all p easy and low maintenance
do you not just like wering it down
Not really. Either feels messy, hair is all over the place, or isnāt a nice sensation tickling my back&neck
FWIW you get used to that
Iāve had long hair for years. Almost always keep it in a bun or loop
That's crazy
How damaged is your hair like
honestly you should cut your hair
you seem to not like having long hair or taking advantage of its length
so im wondering why you have long hair haha
i love wearing my hair down
been happy how it looks with the Dyson
Not at all because I brush it often and only shampoo/conditioner once or twice a week
Hereās my hair down (after a quick brush after waking up) and how I usually keep my hair (bun/loop). How does it look?
I hate how short hair looks on me as it reminds me of catholic school
Also as it gets so hot&humid here in Australia and I worked in fast food kitchens for a few years I tied it up out of necessity
fair enough!
@mewball how does it look?
hmm, what kind of hair do you have? thick or thin? it could use a bit more volume but it looks fine to me. when you tie a bun, you should tie it higher on the back of your head, i think it looks neater.
i have large scrunchies i use and i leave some of my hair in front when i tie a bun but i am going for something more feminine
Do you have an example of this? If I leave some hair in the front it ends up looking really wispy/anemic lmao
sure let me tie it up
i just leave more hair lol
This is good motivation for me to keep growing my hair out lol
Fr mew looks so majestic
aw š
A little off topic but what leave in conditioners/oils do you use?
my hair is actually damaged on one side but i hide it well, i have a bad habit of playing with it when im thinking, so this is good motivation to be better š
It got damaged just from you playing with it??
i don't use leave in super regularly, i have a random leave in spray from sephora that is pretty good. using redken conditioner has made the biggest difference
i curl it which ties it in knots which then i need to pull its like
a few inches shorter on that side
in one place
but you can't really notice it
look into redken then thx!
Like tying it around your finger? lol
yes
ive done it since i was like, a small child
its always the same spot top left
I do that sometimes but I have stronger s curls so I haven't seen any knotting
im built different
I guess my hair is mainly straight but can get wavy in the humidity. Idk how thick/thin my hair is technically. I would say medium?? I would like some more volume and something more interesting and fun when I'm off the clock as I actually have a semplance of a social life and I want to be able to express myself more
I usually keep my hair just above my shoulders but I've been busy and travelling the past few months so it's gotten onto my shoulders which is a slightly awkard length, at least for me. I think because it's also the middle of summer here I am more concious of the hair on my neck because of the heat/humidity
Yall I need hair product recs
That isnāt too Expensive
what are your goals, hair type, and budget?
Uh
My goals are just to have nice hair idkā¦ idk the type
And budget is like 10-20 a product
My hair is I guess fairly thin?
About 6 inches long on top
Loosely curly but if I style it I can keep it straight ish
But by the end of the day it curls and ruins my hairstyle
@carrion (they/them)
hmmmm ok
are u looking for hair care, styling, or both?

best to try a travel kit if they offer one. haircare is like skincare, other people can make educated guesses, but you have to try the products out for yourself to see what works best.

I shampoo 1-2x a week, co-wash 2-3x a week, and use hair masks/treatments whenever im feeling dry followed by hair oil. That's my routine tho, u kinda have to experiment to find what works for u.
Hair oil is not a moisturizer, leave-in conditioner is; hair oil locks in the current moisture of your hair so it is very possible to give yourself dry, oily hair.
if you want to keep your hair in place, you're looking for pomade or wax. You're spoiled for options here, and you really can't go wrong by googling "wavy hair wax $__ budget" and reading reviews
Anybody got recommendations what I should do with my hair? New hairstyle? accessories? Tips&Tricks?
along with the recs u got, u could try a new cut or color, or try bows/scrunchies/clips u think are cute.
I am interested in a new cut, something that makes me feel more comfortable having my hair down. I am also interested in finding more reliable hair ties that are secure and last longer than a few weeks
Thank u @carrion (they/them)
Also love verb
Ever try blow drying the roots?
Does it matter which direction you part ur hair in
For a side part
Like could one way be more natural?
Generally most people have a natural parting. If you brush your hair straight back then it's wet, then push it forward a little, you should see a natural parting.
Anyone with longer, frizzy, thick hair know some good styling products. My hair is really porous and explodes at the first hint of moisture in the air
Leave in conditioner helps me a lot
Yup, am already using that, which does help a good amount. Wondering if there's anything I can use between washes
oooo didnt know this technique. Nice,, will use it this evening after a shower!
if i notice my hair gettin frizzy i just cowash it usually
yeah I should try this š
If my hair dries naturally (slightly towel dry), it's crazy curly (never knew I had it like this, but growing it creates this...mess!).
But if I brush it, and even apply some product, it's more of a wavy/curly look.
My hair with American Crew Matte Clay.
Ignore the lowest neck line part.
Went to a hairdresser for the 1st time and the Male hairdresser botched that part.
Can any curlies help me out? My hair looks like this rn, which I think looks solid, but I want it to look more like FKJ (who is just a beautiful man in general but that's the kind of hair I want). Any product or styling recommendations?
Or is it just a matter of letting it get a little longer?
Your hair looks super wet/saturated with product
You might be over applying or not "scrunching the crunch" out of your product enough
Hmm I used only a small bit of product this morning - my hair is dry and not crunchy at the moment
I did however use a curl cream for the first time this morning in addition to the gel, so maybe the combination of both was too much
part of it is growth for sure. do you use a diffuser at all? diffusers can help add body while styling and are super friendly for curly hair
I don't, I put my hair in a towel for a bit and then air dry
I could try using one though!
They've been a game changer for me tbh! Most salons have a diffuser on deck, I'd ask your place if you can get the diffuser instead of a dryer. They might charge more for it, but it's a good way to demo
My wife actually has one that I can steal haha
It's the t3 one
More length would help, but he's also got a lot of volume going on there.
Getting the balance between volume and potential frizz can be a nightmare IME
I want to find some medium-long length hair inspiration. Any suggestions?
pinterest? ig?
tiktok thirst traps
i just got my hair cut, I showed them a pic I found from a tiktok slideshow
it was ai-generated pics āold money boys from different countriesā
I have no shame
When I try to look itās mostly heavily photoshopped guys who look like they live in a CrossFit gym
Any suggestions for my hair? I shampoo/conditioner 2-3 times a week depending on humidity. I wanna try a different hairstyle or something more interesting, main issue is the current length is a little irritating on the back of my neck. I want to wear my hair down more, I usually keep it in a bun. Iāve had long hair for years but havenāt really done anything new or exciting with it. I want to keep my hair longer as I enjoy the ability to tie it up
Or any styles/inspiration that I should look at?
no one can do this legwork for you, a few people have given you some advice and suggestions you have dismissed, so at this point you need to go out and find an example of what you are looking for
go to your/any hair stylist and ask them these exact same questions
Literally this
Why are you asking random discord strangers the same question sixty times when a stylist is trained in hair
Sorry I didnāt know that I shouldnāt have done that. I just wanted to chat and get some ideas before I go to a hairdresser/barber. I havenāt been to one in years so it makes me very anxious
The best way to get a haircut you want is to find a picture of something you like and show it to the hairdresser. There isn't really a shortcut to looking at a lot of pictures of hair to do that, especially if you're picky.
this is a relatively common sentiment. as cdf said reference images will help (they may have a wall of photos too) in getting the look you want but most good bsrbers will be able to interpret what you want into something that's tenable in three dimensions
alternatively you could just get a buzz cut and be done with it
I downloaded Pinterest and itās helping me find some options
One I keep returning to is my style icon, Keanu Reeves
Effortlessly cool, both fashionable and casual
yeah, pinterest is great! Especially if you have an icon like Keanu. I love him too
Something like this, maybe a bit shorter at the back, would still be able to be tied up when itās hot&humid but also nice when itās down
But itās just a well structured mullet, isnāt it?
Thereās also this as an alternative
(Donāt know model or hairstyle)
IDK if its a deliberate mullet, mines at a similar length and not a million miles off, it looks like he's pretty much got ther same length all over with layers
Remember after u get the cut u gotta learn to style it, definitely something to aks ur stylist abt
Of course, if itās worthwhile and not a hassle Iāll definitely learn it
On work days Iāll probably just tie it up because itās easier and more work appropriate but being able to quickly style it would be awesome
you'll get quicker at styling with practice tbh! Hair that looks effortless usually isn't lmao
Such a painful truth
Guys I need help with my beard
What about it?
Libertine š«š·
What should I do with that hair under lips
It splits two ways like that, looks kinda odd no?
And I just have a traditional hat on to hide my face, ignore it lol
did you trim it weirdly?
it should be fine but i also see what your concern is
You could try combing it or using an oil/conditioner that might give it some weight or stickiness? I get errant hairs all the time but I've definitely noticed it's definitely better when I take time to care for my facial hair. Tho mine is very fine and light so ymmv
For long hair should I go to a barber or hairdresser?
Thats really going to depend on the barber. I asked around til I found a barber who had long hair themselves
Fair
Iāll keep looking or see if I can get a recommendation from a friend
Worth peeking about instagram if you find somewhere promising, see what they've done in the past.
I have checked a few local barber instagram pages but the closest I find is a before&after cutting off the long hair

men with longer hair if you hear a voice that tells you to cut it that's the devil talking. you have to ignore it at all costs im not joking
š 311.52K š 45.01K
Legit itās pretty shocking how thereās so little resources for masculine long hair
Yeah, I need a trim soon and I'm struggling for ideas
so true
And I mention that I wanna do something a little different with my hair and people often just say "cut it short?"
Which is quite disconcerting
demons, the devil speaks through their mouths
This is starting to bring me back to Bible Study about the story of Samson & Delilah lol
I think that would only make sense if you have a severely receding hairline, which you don't
they were cooking with that one ngl
I do have a borderline 5head tho
not the same thing
Or I just have small hands lol
The old trick to find out if you have a large forehead is if your hand can fit perfectly within the space between your eyebrows and hairline
huh
anyways to return to the original question I'd recommend a hairdresser especially if you want a specific style
Yeah probs the easier choice
Hairdressers.
I got medium-length hair and realised only so much my barbers could do.
Hairdressers work with longer hair / guys hair.
Or a top-notch barber that goes the extra mile / has a good cut.
Not a barber barber, but a hair stylist barber....if that makes sense.
Yeah I understand
Itās not in a regular barberās repertoire
Ye I think they are used to cutting/working w/shorter hair/fades.
One thing I noticed from youtube reviews / comments is that female hairdressers or even men hairstylists work each all the hairs layers.
its kinda one of those needlessly gendered things IMO... but i find those who call themselves hair dressers or hair stylists take it more seriously than self proclaimed barbers, regardless of gender
"barber" i think mostly attracts the supercuts type crowd that is looking for a quick, practical cut rather than styling and shaping hair
im also biased because the most common place i see "barber" used now is like... new wave stylists geared towards straight men who are too scared to go to a salon. so the chairs are like... big and leather, they give you a beer, etc
Not sure if this is the right thread but any conditioner recommendations?
And I'm looking for something free of dyes and fragrances etc
what's ur budget + hair type?
A lil curly. Not sure, I pay like $11 for 8 fl oz of my vanicream anti dandruff shampoo.
Maybe I should just go with the vanicream conditioner too?
depends on your goals and how much time and money you're willing to spend tbh. Haircare is like skincare in that you have to tailor your routine specifically to your needs & body if you want to get the most out of it
If the shampoo is working tho I'd grab the conditioner and give it a full month to see how your hair really responds to it!
Thank you! Yah my concern has been that I don't condition which I thought you should be doing in general. My shampoo has been effective at keeping away dandruff and not causing other irritation lol
Good! It really does depend on the individual. Like I use shampoo, conditioner, hair masks, hair treatments, and oil because that's just what my hair and scalp needs to really thrive and also I like smelling pretty.
Any tips btw on keeping your hair from getting messed up while you sleep? I feel like I take a lot of extra morning showers just because my hair is messed up when I wake up
Or ig fixing it in the morning too lol
Having a good hairbrush helps! Silk pillowcases are great for preventing tangles, but aren't super necessary if your hair isn't long.
If you'd prefer not to shower in the morning, styling creams/wax/gel, dry shampoo, or sea salt sprays can do the trick.
I have shoulder length, 3a hair (loose curls), and I just use a gentle scrunchee or silk hair tie to keep my hair in place while I sleep, and brushing it in the morning if it's tangled.
Thank you! All very helpful
bro wish I had curlier hair
or at least wavy
it looks so dynamic and interesting
straight hair be hard to style
rn I'm with a mullet and I use so much hair product every time I go out
Same. My hair is boring af and I donāt have the skill or time to make it interesting
you have no idea how much work goes into every time you see good curly hair
there are advantages but "less work" is not one of them
Sometimes I wonder if I should just shave off my long hair
tapping the sign
Idk
Seems like no one likes it anyways
This honestly
june (@porklets) on X
curly haired mfs are so funny and specific about their hair theyāre always like i canāt shower for more than ten minutes and if i condition after midnight He tries to get me
Twitter
At least thatās more interesting than dead straight and lifeless
Fr tho, if you aren't feeling your hair, get it chopped.
My hair reached the middle of my back maybe 5(?) years ago, then I got sick of it so I shaved down to a 0 and had a shaved head for a couple years. Now my hair is shoulder length again.
It's just hair, if it's causing you pain ya gotta change it for yourself.
Itās more people either hate it or ask when Iām considering getting a haircut they instantly ask āhow short?ā
Or people like to point it out
I mean, is it their hair or yours?
I understand it's not a good feeling being pressured by others or hearing comments you dont like, but ultimately it's your body.
True, but I do feel awfully focused on my perception by others because I want others to like my style &etc
Barring specific circumstances, you've gotta do all of this for yourself. Some will always love your personal style, others will always think your style sucks.
fuck da haters
I used to really hate having straight hair, because I couldnāt ever get it to do all the slightly wavy fluffy styles i liked, but eventually i stopped trying to do those styles and just let it be spiky and found a style that worked with it & now I donāt mind it at all. I just had to stop fighting itā¦ Considering how common straight hair is itās very annoying how rare good haircut inspiration images for it are
yeah looking for haircuts is just "this one is cute... ah i could never pull it off"
the current length
so much easier to manage than when it was long af
My brother be cute š
I wonder if I get my hair cut like Ewan McGregor in Shallow Grave (1994). Might might make an inspiration post about all his outfits from the movie
Itās a little short on the front and some shape as well
I wonder how that sorta cut would look tied up as well?
He also grew out his sideburns, never tried that
What do we recommend for adding volume+hold to thin longish hair? My hair sits like this (good and cool) when itās wet out of the shower but wilts throughout the day. Iāve used shiner gold clay in the past when my hair was shorter but Iād like something that leaves my hair less stiff
Other people will have better product recs but do you blowdry or airdry?
Chill šš
Airdry
Sometimes I do the baseball hat for ten minutes thing
I'd recommend at least trying blowdrying if you haven't. The hat might be flattening your hair.
I'd be curious to hear recs from people with hair more similar to you but Bumble & Bumble makes a thickening spray and that might work for you. They also have a sea salt spray which I've used and it's good but wasn't what I needed at the time. They sell mini sizes of both at sephora.
Either powder or spray will be less stiff
I had some degree of success spraying then using the hairdryer
in december, i went to the barber and had my first haircut since i think june
and after his cut, i noticed so much hair loss
i'm in the northeast
of the US, so it's pretty cold
but i spend almost all of my time in doors and usually wear a hat that preserves a ton of body heat when outdoors
do you think it's because my house's heater? or because im balding?
i usually spend most of my time in socal
but i've had to return since the start of 2023
im 24
i compared before and after photos of the top of my head and its like it came out of nowhere
december (after the haircut)
now
i guess it was my shortest haircut in a year
my dad is bald btw he didn't bald at my age
in fairness you're comparing four months of growth (oct) to three with pictures that aren't fully vis a vsi
how often do you cut your hair
how often do you wash/condition your hair
so i hadn't cut my hair since December of 2022 (i go to the barber for lineups and stuff, but not actually cutting hair). the first photo you see, is in october of 2023.
in december i trimmed down my hair
and i noticed hair loss in places i hadn't noticed before
when i cut my hair in 2022, it wasn't this bad
how long between cuts in 2022?
i feel like 6 months between full cuts like that may be a little too much time tbh
i can't remember but i think probably a year
i get line ups
and stuff
just not reducing my hair length
if you're not actively trying to get your hair to be a certain length (e.g. afro) it may help to trim it down more often (i usually go monthly and it's helped with some of the receding i started to get in my late 20s)
your hair looks like 4C so general advice - shampoo less (1/2x week tops), condition/oil it regularly, wear some form of cover over your hair as you sleep so you lose less moisturing on your pillow
do you think im experiencing hair loss, or is it just the cold?
i should have brought this up with my derma
that could be contributing yes
that and you're used to a warmer more humid climate
i would give it a month before worrying because if it's seasonal hair loss it's just gonna grow back in spring/summer
yea
buy a do-rag to wear while you sleep, get hair oil to put on your head even/especially when you're wearing a cap or beanie so the friction from removing it won't cause breakage
tbh my boss is kind of an ass and it's really stressing me out
and i've had to take certain kinds of medication associated with hair issues so idk
it used to be hard for me to grow an afro when i lived in the northeast before, but after going to college in socal
it became easier
i didn't think it could cause hairloss
my dad is bald though
managing stress helps, discussing the effectiveness or side effects of medication with a doctor helps
both parents' genes contribute to hair growth or hair loss patterns
yea my moms hairline isn't bad
but she's a woman
aand her brothers are in their 40s and have hair
my maternal uncles
gonna circle back to this then re advice
thank you!
but you can certainly agree that there's hairloss?
is there a decrease in hair, yes
are there a number of factors contributing to this, also yes
usually male baldness looks stage 4 of this, but it looks like there's a long rough rectanglular shape hair loss that stars half an inch from my hairline
there are different forms of hair growth and baldness though
if this is the first time this happened and also the first time you've been in the NE for winter and also a particularly stressful time there's too many variables to say conclusively 'you're balding forever'
if there's no growth or continued loss after a month then talk to your derma, it might be the start of balding
or just buzz it
i grew up in NE, i noticed i had issues growing hair compared to in socal
my hair looked better than it did in hs in socal
and i compared a photo and my hairline is actually stronger than in hs
i can tell because there are areas where even after a haircut there is no hair growth at all in my high school hairline, but there is in my older self hairline
but i've never noticed hair loss beyond my hairline like this though
yea thank you
it takes like 8 months to schedule an appointment
haha
probably like 4-6 months
it seems similar to this
as far as the journey question goes, i've worn my hair in varying shades of long, unlayered and completely straight for years. like, since i was little and still thought i was a cis girl years. i get. one layered hair cut and almost cry in the hairdresser's chair because i finally feel a lot more like me. i still have to keep it on the shorter side of long, because i still feel like i'm unfortunately built in such a way that it's too easy to look at me with long hair and go "woman" but i'm also looking forward to going for a leon kennedy kinda cut when summer rolls around - both to beat the heat and to see how that looks on me
I got 3" of hair lopped off and its made it go even more curly. Hell yeah
aw hell yeah
Not happy with my hairstyle, any cuts and styles youd recommend based on my hairline and face shape
bro have u tried middle parting? like with the current length? itād look great imo
I have in fact not
Think thatās the move tbh
Ill try i out tomorrow after i shower
I finally trimmed my hair down to a more manageable length
i have thin hair and im balding, lol. im taking propecia and applying minoxidil
but anyways, ive tried various hair oils before but they just made my hair look even thinner. my friends were so adamant i try &honey and i did! and wow it's amazing. i dont use wax and hairspray anymore unless it's raining out
sharing for my thin haired, balding kings. &honey works for thick and volimunous hair too. my partner uses it too!
this is kinda a cop out but I'd suggest a consultation with your stylist beforehand if possible! Pics are always helpful, but my best cuts have been from just talking it out with my stylist.
Yeah I'll totally talk beforehand/I have an album of pictures. Just trying to go with as much information/opinions as possible. Particularly regarding layering, I think.
Guys how bad is hair gel for my hair? If I use it, will I soon look like Terry Crews?
Minus the bod
My hair is quite wavy and I don't really take care of it
Just make sure to get decent hair gel. I've curly hair and it does wonders for the frizz
I think the main options are to ask for a scissor cut or try a part closer to the center. You could also ask for a bit of an undercut on the sides or more point cutting to reduce the severity of the line.
Thanks. You are right.
About a week and a half into 'seeing what happens' growing out a mustache... I've never had facial hair in my life so don't really have a frame of reference - is this a decent 'base'? Worth continuing?
Dunno but u look hot
What does ur wife think
Is the real q
Lmao she's undecided atp
>week and a half
u have just begun
up to yall but definitely ime took time and some trimming for things to really grow in fully
That's decent growth for a week and a half
Yea I was basically sick for a week and didn't shave at all, then just cut to a mustache for funsies. I don't think I've gone more than 3 days w/o shaving in my adult life
what the fuck
that's honestly crazy
not even during covid??
Nah
I've been pretty similar except on winter holidays when I'm too lazy and don't need to look professional
All I can really grow is a shittu goatee
Like I have 8 hairs on my cheeks + sideburns
Guess we'll see what a couple weeks or a month looks like
I worked in a hot kitchen during Covid so I was risking it with growing my hair halfway down my back. I've trimmed it down to above my shoulders now
I'd say give it a month to decide to either continue or bail
During covid I shaved down to a mustache as a bit but it when on long enough that I stockholmed my wife into liking it lmao
I donāt think Iāve been fully clean shaven in like four years
Yea my social media has been inundated with men in mediocre mustaches so I figured why not give it shot
What product do you guys with medium-long hair use to style? Iāve been using forming cream or clay until now but now Iām finding the hold wonāt keep my hair from falling into my face while also making things weird and stick since itās very thick to apply so itās the worst of both worlds
Simply blow drying isnāt enough for me since it tends to get crazy after a few hours
I wonder if I should give it a go too
Why not
The time and discomfort
The awkward phases especially
I should have the ability to grow some facial hair, my Grandad has had a moustache since the 70's
Gel on damp not wet hair
The shape and curls stay pretty well after scrunching it out, and good gel wont leave flakes and the like
Iāve never used any sorta product or gel in my hair, wonder if I should try it
Any gel you recommend in particular?
I have curly hair too and I like la looks gel itās cheap check out the curly hair subreddit they have recommendations if youāre trying a routine
I use Cantu gel but not sure if you can get it outside the UK
something i never anticipated being mustached is how much pet hair gets stuck in/around my mouth with it :mryuk:
Can I ask about body hair in here? or should i make a new thread
this seems fine
Does it look weird if you shave your torso but not arms or legs?
I've done it before btw so i know what it looks like, i just don't know how it looks to other people lol. I thought it looked pretty good. I just wanna know if it's like an egregious no-no
definitely not if you're not wearing shorts
could always use a body hair trimmer and cut down on some of the bulk around the 'transition' area if it bugs you
i'm not a very hairy guy so this is pretty out of my wheelhouse
My body hair doesn't really connect from my arms to my torso. My body hair is like medium-thick and kinda patchy
so there isn't an overt transition line when it's shaved
Regardless of whether you shave your body hair or not, there's a good chance that someone will comment on it. Do what makes you feel most comfortable so those comments don't matter.
Does anyone have any advice on how to stop the annoying flick that can happen in long hair after itās tied up for a while?
Or at least a remedy so I can let my hair down after work?
Wdym by flick like curling out? Or something different?
This is just to give an idea of what it kinda looks like
hair just does that
like without tying it up
thats pretty naturally and usually honestly kind of subtle
Maybe itās just more noticeable when I let my long hair down
you would have to straighten your hair with a straightener or at least get it wet to prevent that but even then frankly i dont think anyone would notice
thats just how long hair looks
Maybe I just need to learn a hair routine or something to give my hair nice shape/life after a day at work
a better washing/conditioning routine and some product might help
Iāve never tried product
I shampoo/conditioner twice a week
Just water or regular soap every other day
the shampoo/conditioner you use also matters
if you want it to be flatter you could consider a leave in conditioner as well
Iām fine with shape/volume, Iāve wondered if I might want that
If itās not just an awkward flick
To get mine not to do that I either need to have like a days worth of oil or to specifically straighten it and I donāt even tie up
shaping it with a little bit of hair clay or pomade can help
Another solution would be to take weight out in the interior.
Would that work for long hair?
mew is right, long hair will do that, especially if you're wearing it up most of your day/most of the time.
Brushing can help, depending on your hair type, and getting it wet can kinda "reset" it, but if you're only wearing your hair in tight buns id recc styling it differently more often to avoid damaging the ends.
Yeah I usually notice that once I get some water in it any weird shapes are gone and reset
Curious what you guys with like mid length hair do when you are out and about. Mines not long enough to tie up and wearing a hat constantly gets annoying but I canāt stop it from falling all over while like running or even just walking outside
i used footballer headbands for a long time
this sort of thing
Gel
Similar question; any good alternatives to hair ties/elastics?
Clips and headbands
Hat
Any good options for a masculine/unisex style?
Looks pretty unisex to me. Does it need to have flames painted on it or something?
The headband above is more masculine if anything
True
i use headbands that are kind of like these:
or a bandana works too
bandana is deeply masculine
That's a vibe
bandana good
that reminds me I need some bandanas, lost my old ones in a house move
Bought one of those metal headbands because of this thread and I feel like my life is changed forever
I dunno what to do with my hair. My partner is very in favour of me bleaching and shaving.

I ordered some last week as well, total game changer
should i do anything to my eyebrows?? I've been told I have bushy eyebrows
Bushy eyebrows are cool though. Yours look great, I would just embrace the look!
Not an expert on this, but my fiancƩe started plucking the strays around my brows and it makes a big difference. My brows are still thick, they just look a lot tidier. Especially helpful was cleaning up the little hairs in between my brows, but also on top and below.
Sometimes your hairstylist may be willing to your eyebrows as well. My last two barbers have done them with no extra charge, not plucking but using the trimmer at least
yeah, i go to a salon and mine does them with no extra charge, she usually asks if i want them done and then does them quickly before wrapping up if i say yes
My mom does my eyebrows, works out for me
I pluck the middle so I don't have a unibrow but nothing more. Large eyebrows are cool.
Yeah, I aspire to one day have old-man bushy eyebrows
its getting to the point where I have to actually sort them a bit in the morning bc they get messy lol
Thinking of cutting my Hair to Fran Lebowitz lenghth
going down the rabbit hole of "what makes a pinstriped jacket + jeans work" has led me to the OG
oh i dig that so hard
iām going leon kennedy (resident evil) soon just to beat the heat and help the gender feels
itās gonna be the shortest iāve ever gone
yo folks
on hairstyles like that
how do you shape the bangs? mines look cool in the mirror then fall cowlick flat half a hour later
part of it could be how you are styling ie blowdrying and what products you are using and other could just be your natural hair
mine tends to fall flat over the course of the day no matter what just because its fine and gets a lot of oil quick
yeah. you can get a lot of volume with just a blowout
id also recomend a higher hold product if you dont naturally get that volume
also things like applying product in fully dry hair can help but again really depends
do I blowout before or after the product?
I would probably do some gel into damp hair and blowdry after but you may need to expirement
A quick search on youtube I found this, looks like a very similar hairstyle so may be helpful. Next time you get a cut I would encourage you to ask your barber as well https://youtu.be/JQvrXQ2L6uw?si=z27pLE1zwkEDpmXk

Hi can someone give me advice on what to do with my hair
Iāll send a pic of it in PMs
We dont do that here
Is "jawn" an indicator that you live in Philly (I recently moved there). But as for the hair, I agree. I started growing my hair out after I left my corporate job in 2016, and the ponytail is so easy, if not the most "dapper." I'm hesitant to cut it off and have to deal with bed hair and such.
I think jawn has expanded beyond Philly these days, at least in fashion circles
Just a goofy pun name I'm afraid, I'm in the UK!
@mewball are u still using the redken conditioner? and what shampoo? trying to quit CG
yeah im using redken conditioner and the redken leave-in for frizz
im shampooing a bit more often but still only once a week or two, i just have kind of a generic one
ty
trying to figure out something for this summer to defeat all my frizz, its rough out here
do you have naturally dry or oily hair?
oily
wel
actually
hmmmm
maybe its more dry. i dunno really i dont think about my hair like that
maybe your technique won't work for me
I have super dry hair
yeah my hair is like insanely poofy after i shampoo it and looks horrible until a few days later
and then the natural oil + conditioner kicks in
hm
but i rarely feel like my hair is greasy
mine gets back into shape pretty quickly
but I think my equilibrium is pretty dry
i have super thick hair
I have very dense but thin hair
i think hair is just all vibes and figuring out what works
like thin strands
yeah i get u. you have very different hair from me then
My hair is stick straight but has always been pretty frizzy on top. The Redkin conditioner tip from mewball worked great for me vs all the others I've tried. My shampoo now is Modern Mammals (one of the non sudsy shampoos). It's the only shampoo I've ever used that really doesn't give me almost any frizz at all, drastically different from any other shampoo I've used. It's v pricey for shampoo but now I just use that plus a bit of oil vs multiple other products I used to use ( which worked inconsistency for frizz anyway) so it all evens out cost wise I think. Went from using shampoo never (due to frizz) to using it every few days with no issues.
oooh. okay you are spitting facts. i should just buy nicer shampoo
Yeah, I was honestly suprised at how well it works for me. Thought I got suckered by ads, but it is much better than any other (multiple expensive) shampoos I have tried.
i am just using drug store stuff cuz i dont use it often but maybe it will fix me
Yeah, worth a shot. If you do like it then the big bulk bag thing you can get will probably last me like a year which isn't too bad all costed out. The $30+ single bottle is kinda painful price wise.
yeah i just mean a nicer shampoo in general but might look into that one
for sure for sure
Thank you for the redkin suggestion btw. That is the best conditioner I have found.
glad its worked out well for you : ) yeah ive had a great exp myself, i just got their leave-in and its great
I like to keep my hair pretty short
My barber messed up my hair last time he always stank of booze as well so booked a new barber thinking getting a long buzz cut type thing like skin faded or a mullet maybe
go9t a new shampoo from my salon :discourse:
said it shouldnt dry me out
from my most recent haircut
might go slightly shorter on the sides next time
Any tips for helping give texture to long flat/straight hair? I heard recently coconut oil when brushing might help?
if you wanna get curls, leaving braids in overnight helps
won't this damage hair?
bought a sea salt spray myself but havent used it yet
does it?
my sister does it but idk if menās hair responds similarly
I just searched and the difference between male and female hair is ...very minimal and most likely environmental
Iāve heard that can be good
this is insane
insane yes but it works
itās more of a beach wave than proper curl
but it does work
Anyone try co-washing?
co-washing?
what even is that?
washing with just conditioner
yea i did that for awhile
now i just shampoo rarely
Sea salt spray can help, I get mixed results from it tho, I find texturizing power works better for me personally
I also co-washed only for a while but my hair ends up too greasy for that
it worked pretty well for my hair type but theres always build up eventually
didn't but I'm "low shampoo" (washing day yes day not, not using aggressive surfactants)
Yup, I do this. I have very thick, but dry hair that only needs shampoo once a week.
Finding the right conditioner took some trial and error
This has probably been asked before, but I'd like an opinion on it away from the online areas it's normally discussed. Are hair loss prevention treatments effective and are the side effects negligible? Do they effect testosterone?
A friend has been on Minoxidil for a while and that does work for him. Doesn't work for about half of people.
There's minoxidil as said above and finasteride
Minoxidil is over the counter and topical (though some doctors prescribe it in pill form in very small quantities off label). Finasteride is prescription and in pill form. You'd have to consult a doctor for the latter
Finasteride has a higher risk of side effects but is more effective. I take it and I don't seem to have any side effects but you'll have to consult the medicine guide and your doctor as that's only my experience. It seems to have halted hair loss for me
Those two medications are the only two with both good evidence and FDA approval in the US at least
That's useful thanks. So you think there's no reason to not try at least minoxidil then I guess?
Yeah. If you do, I'd try the foam version. A generic store brand one is fine
i went from bowl cut w heavy bangs covering my forehead to literally anything but that
turns out i hated my eyebrows or more so my eyebrows were bad hence didnt like that third of my face but now i got better eyebrows so literally the world is my oyster in terms of hair
As I understand you have to take Fin to have reasonable effects. Min is more of an extra add on. People on Reddit posted some really good improvements, but I do take it and still lose hair
And yeah it does affect T level
What haircut would you recommend me to get for my face? I'm also slowly losing hair on temples, in addition to an already large forehead

Untitled Album
Went blonde 2 years ago and it has been THE move. Now growing it out, currently approaching bob
How blonde?
Depends on the occasion, from platinum to wheat blonde.
not thaaaaat much tbf
very dependent on the individual
How do you change the tones ?
Like you re-color them completely?
Itās just my hair is so full of pigment, decoloration is always a bit of a lottery.
Sometimes I get platinum, sometimes it stays fairer, rye/wheat
i think im gonna try the conditioner only thing for a while and see what happens
it works it's just annoying
you need a lot of conditioner
note that you can also try topical finasteride! There's fewer clinical trials in support of it, but it definitely has fewer side effects.
It looks kind of lopsided atm? Much more volume on the (your) right hand side. Best thing is to ask a good hairdresser tbh but it's a nice cut apart from that, you still look like you've got plenty of thick hair
random info but remember dont buy box bleach from the store but buy salon grade bleach and developer, its cheaper and will lift your hair easier
but make sure to read up on how to use salon bleach properly
i say always stick w 20 vol developer at most bc i can lift black hair whether it be natural or dyed for a lvl 8 blonde in one round w it
also reporting in that nicer quality shampoo is in fact also worth it, dries my hair out way less
Im on holiday with high humidity, no access to any decent conditioner and product, and my hair is LARGE right now
Awesome hair! Does that have product in? Mines a little like that if I grow it out but not as crazy.
I'd have thought growing it longer if you can push through would be an answer because at some point it's own weight will start dragging it down. Finding the right shampoo and conditioner could help.
It's either that or cut it much shorter which could look smart and controlled. Whatever you like really, there's a lot of potential
Thank you! No product in those pictures. I donāt put anything in post-wash. I would have to grow it for at least a year before it started growing downwards (it just keeps expanding outward and upward) and the middle stage is horrible. Thereās a curly hair routine I found online that I want to try and if that works out Iāll try growing it longer. Otherwise I really like the two-block hairstyle (not pictured here).
impeccable mad scientist vibes tho
You need a product if you don't like frizziness, i found something good for my hair texture/curls and this might be the first summer I don't buzz & bleach my head cause I'm so happy with my current routine
The issue with every product Iāve tried is that it weighs my hair down. Positive reviews (āthis one wonāt weigh your hair down!ā) never seem to apply. And in concrete terms this means that I end up looking like Iāve just come out of the shower, with wet hair sticking to my head, for the rest of the day, even if it isnāt wet. It just looks bizarre and I canāt keep trying new products and throwing them away. The leave-in conditioner and salt spray-type stuff that you can use on dry hair ends up leaving my hair greasy-looking, with frizz here and refined curls there.
Something like this (best-case scenario):
Youāre looking great though
i have to wonder if the "won't weigh your hair down!" is related to straighter, lighter hair types
yours seems to have a natural curl by default
I hear you on trying products, I've gone to Ulta and got a bunch of small sample size stuff to help me gauge what I like best and landed on "pattern leave in conditioner" I mix it with argan oil and I love it so much
Def figure out your curl type and pursue a routine that suits those needs specifically. I don't use leave-in product outside of oils because my hair doesn't respond to it well, but a solid co-wash routine supplemented with the right shampoo and deep moisture hair mask is what works perfectly for me. It can get a bit pricey with specialty products, but that's just curly hair.
The routine I can work with, itās just the endless product testing that gets absurdly expensive
It really is just finding the right product - thankfully the internet is filled with guides, reviews, and recommendations for most curl types. Way easier to sample products from a small pool of recommendationsš
Agree with the above. And you do look really good with that hair lol, I know what you mean about the wetness though
I appreciate it. I think maybe buying a diffuser would help as opposed to letting it air dry
Thanks to everyone for all the advice šš¼
Thanks for the hair cream rec @Soup definitely reduced frizziness and got my waves looking nicer
Just offering some things Iāve learned as I see lots of people talking about curly hair or shampoo drying their hair out and buying expensive stuff.
Clarifying shampoo ā contains sulfates and totally strips everything from your hair leaving it frizzy and dry. Use this once every couple weeks to get of build up. You can literally use dollar general Suave for this. Non-sulfate shampoo I use every couple days. Doesnāt have to be expensive. I use Garnier Fructis curl nourish sulfate free. Itās cheap. I either co-wash or just rinse daily. I just use cheap garnier fructis SILICONE-FREE conditioner. A leave-in conditioner helps especially after clarifying but most days I just put some curl gel in there and crunch it soft once it dries. The point is, using the right type of product at the right time does way more for me than using expensive products. Hope it helps! And as I understand, sulfate-free shampoos and silicone-free conditioners arenāt necessarily BETTER, but they work in tandem. So either use them both or donāt use either. Using sulfates regularly without silicone will dry your hair out big time, and using silicone without sulfates will let it build up like crazy.

what hair cream is it? I tried scrolling up a bit but can't find it
He had mentioned it to me in another channel but i got love ur curls for wavy hair. I have fairly poor hair maintenance and iām trying to work on a more healthy hair routine
Iāve stopped washing with shampoo everyday and i put some leave in hair cream after my shower which makes it look less frizzy and makes the waves a little wavier
I've been doing the stuff myownmoses has been saying for a bit, like the CG method, but I am kinda struggling with what to do after, like I already do a bit of argan oil and a leave-in while it dries in microfiber towel but it still gets really big
so I will definitely try that and then the next step is gel I guess
I used gel when my hair was shorter
Looks great, glad it worked for you
Gel nowadays is not the flaky crusty stuff it was in 1999. Even when my hair is longer I still use gelājust scrunch it into all my hair. Once it dries it will be a little crispy, but you scrunch it in your hand, and it softens up with no flaking, keeping all the curls intact.
Minimal towel contact makes a big difference for me too. I just pat it dry with a microfiber or old T-shirt, apply product and let it air dry. Very annoying in the winter but it works.
Oh another game changer for me was a satin (or satin-like) pillowcase. HUGE difference. Actually canāt stress this enough. I wake up and my hair is a little matted, but itās not all frizzed from rubbing against the pillow. I spray it with water and bit of dissolved conditioner, tease it back out and Iām good to go for the day. I can go two days between putting my head under the shower like this.
(Iām rinsing my hair daily nowadays because itās shorter and Iāve been in the gym more, but with longer hair and the winter this was the secret weapon to keeping my sanity.)
I already have the satin (actually mine might be silk) pillowcases, and I typically dry my hair in a microfiber towel for a bit before applying products
damn okay maybe i should try that
i do just have regular cotton ones
I just wear a silk bonnet to bed
Hope it helps!
Iāve done the bonnet when my hair was longerāworked just the same but I find the pillowcase easier
remembered something, if you dont have a lot of hair like hair amount not thickness of follicle
dont let yer barber go willy nilly with thining sheers to give you "layers"
all that does it make you look like your hairs thinning and balding
the only thinning done to give layers should be done by a hairstylist at a salon
selectively to properly give texture instead of over thinning the hair of someone with average amount of hair
Today i am once again reminded that I should not shower in the evening but do so in the morning before cycling to work lol
Looks considerably better
I am still a night shower person despite not working in a kitchen anymore
But I still work at night so it makes some sense
How do you silk bonnet/pillow folk wash the silk?
I like a night shower and sometimes itās still worth just sticking my head under the shower in the morning to get the hair under control
I say silk, but itās actually 100% polyesterāso, washing machine like normal. Probably doesnāt feel quite as nice but it achieves the same end hair-wise
gotta say 1 night with the satin pillowcase does seem to have had a positive effect
@meatwater you're a bonnet enjoyer right? do u have any sage wisdom...
confirmed silk bonnets and/or pillowcases rock
I wash cool and then hangdry and have had no issues
is this the sage wisdom you were hoping for?
I haven't read any higher up haha
@meatwater no that's basically it. i have pillowcases but maybe bonnet is better
I was silk pillowcasing only for a while, but lately Ive been sleeping on my bangs weird and messing them up so I'm back to the bonnet since it holds everything in place way better
yeah i kinda move between pillows sometimes
and also my other pillowcases are cuter
so bonnet sounded kinda good
I have two bonnets so I can alternate to mitigate gunk/residue buildup !
undried fresh cut (iāll take a drier to it when i get home)
kinda going for this one ff14 hairstyle as best as humanly possible - considering iām also aware itās a blowout
oh i never posted after it was dried
huh level 8 bleached hair w a level 7 deep ash blonde with strong hues of blue than purple gets you exactly what mainstream media is calling the āold moneyā hair color
oh nice so it makes you look like you benefit from generational wealth?
this is insane
like not in a "wow insane" way but in a "what the hell are you talking about" way
My interpretation is they dyed their hair and it ended up looking something like this https://www.elle.com/uk/beauty/hair/a46900482/old-money-blonde-hair/
Generational inbreeding producing certain hair colours because you can't pollute the gene pool.
self hair dyeing is as crazy as it sounds
blue will make hair green
green will make hair yellow
yellows just yellow
What does magenta do?
magenta on mid to deep blonde will make hair into a rosy kinda color or just a very like magenta mangenta( as in it has enough blue that the purple tones does show up along w the pink)
while fade out on said medium toned(level 6-8 brightness) it ll be a very corally brown like color
on very white hair the magenta would fade to a like peony pink color?
like that kinda
then itll be just a very orange yellow you can dye over
owh but if you use demi or full on permanent then you want to make sure the next dye color be purple
you can do blue but it might go green or ashy brown from any orange tones from staining
but i particularly loved magenta back in the day as a color shampoo when i dyed my hair blue
instead of fadding green it ll turn silver
in that sense too its great for when you get your hair toned and its super green gray then platinum? magenta shampoo will get it that white blonde tone
this close to bleaching my whole head again to platinum bc my hair isnt going w my fit or face
it goes w the face just not in combination w the fit
and its making my face look out of place instead of the hair which is infuriating
Does anyone know what hairstyle this is?
4 on the sides, scissors up top. you could take this pic to any salon and get it done v easily as long as you've got the length.
also some would say its a 8:2 hair part but i say it deadass might be a 9:1
Yeah Iām planning to take the pic! Just wanted to see if I could find the style with other angles
cut my own hair for the first time in several months and i forgot the sheer panic that comes after finishing cutting but before washing
I'm going for the buzz tomorrow, kinda tired of the way my hair is thinning
just did a bleach bath to strip any remaining hair dye to then over tone it deep purple but its a demi permanent dis round and itll be gone in two weeks
but why yes i will have orange roots from the combo of bleach bath and purple
slowly restoring my curls after a couple months of not taking the best care of them
Gonna be satisfying!
remember this, at the time i used the dye in my brows too in hopes it tones down the gingeriness from before which it did but also it fucked w new dark hairs so my brows are even softer
so yea dont do that
all of a sudden i m 14 again
I got my cornrows done and Iām now at 6 rows from 8 last week and my head hurts
Still growing my hair out after a year without a haircut and 2 yrs growing it out.
Quite happy with it, and surprised by my actual hair type once they're long š nicely wavy with light curls
I have like 4 big cowlicks including 2 in the front, and the weight of the hair makes them pretty much non existent which is much easier for me to style than short hair
Gonna keep growing it out š
ugh lucky(hair weight thing ignoring cowlicks)
just gave myself a jank ass hair cut bc growing out my hair
and decided it was better to cut in the layers for the longer hair mow than later bc the current awkward hair length was not it
Long hair > buzzed > slick > long > mullet pipeline
Pretty much settled on the mullet-lite for ease of use tbh. Low maintenance, looks good grown out, doesnāt get in my way
Warp your hair is too pretty to be short
do you have to gel a mullet or does it just go
cause i might get one and see how it vibes
depends entirely on your hair type and the vibes you want
i personally use a little bit of hair wax or light pomade in mine, if anything
softer, moisturizing gels have been an absolute gamechanger for my curly, longish hair, the only thing that super kills the frizzies
Any gel recommendations? I have a few I like but always want to try the next big thing
I have mad thick hair and use Cantu gel mostly, but have had luck with generic olive/argan oil hair gel
the good thing is its cheap to experiment with
Ah, Cantu gel was way too much hold for me. Iāve been using kinky curly custard lately
I have thick curly hair and I just Garnier Fructis curly hold gel. Usually I mix it with a little leave-in conditioner because why the hell not.
I assume all gels have the routine of having to scrunch it after it dries so it looks natural?
Anyone have recommendations for product with med or high hold for straight hair that would also help with prevent separation
water based pomade?

have u tried pomade
kinda similar
Idk why but I wanna try an undercut again. It's been like 10 years since I last tried lmao
Has anyone seen one in 2024 that doesn't look awful
i still think they can look really good when done right by a good barber š
never beating the peaky blinders allegations
im getting dr strange vibes
i like how the guitar made a comeback
sir thats ai
idk bout mens haircut but that one famous pic of the old money aesthetic girl yea her hairdo can be replicated in terms of reality
so i imagine itd be the same for ai generated mens hair
randomly remembering i had heavy bangs for so long bc i hated my face w my forehead
and i thought it was bc of my forehead but turns out it was just my eyebrows
the point is look in the mirror do you actually like bangs or are your eyebrows making you hate not having bangs
So everyone keeps telling me I need to be washing my hair like once a week or something. But when I go a few days without it, my hair loses all of its volume. I'm conscious of my thinning hair, so I end up washing it every 2 days so it never loses its volume. So how can I maintain its volume in between washes?
idk how much different your hair is to mine, but you might be able to dampen it (with like a spray bottle) and blow it out with a hair drier
washing frequency is highly dependent on individual hair along with your lifestyle
personally I will only wash with shampoo after strenuous exercise where my hair is soaked in sweat or I know it's dirty from dust, dirt etc
aside from that i'll do a conditioner wash most other days
iām supposed to be washing every three days but i havenāt been doing that well and i can see it in my scalp again orz
but iāve also been using a combination of nizoral (anti-dandruff) and then my clarifying shampoo
so iāve been doing a deep clean every several days
when iām on schedule anyways
What is a normal amount of hair to lose as you run/swoop your hands through your hair? Asking for a friend
I find with my very fine hair I pretty much have to wash everyday or it gets too flat and greasy
Its normal to lose up to 150 hairs a day
The longer your hair is the more noticeable it is without actually losing more hair
I do once a day with vanicream anti dandruff shampoo
Especially in the summer
As someone who gets dandruff
owh if youre hairs thinning you should totally wash it daily/when scap gets oily
bc androgens ans stuff exist in the sebum
100 hairs a day so like when yer shampooing thatd be like a good 10-15 hairs at most bc water and shampooing loosens dead hair from the scalp
swooping/combing/blow drying would be anywhere around the same
loosing hair aint bad its just the dead hair exiting the scalp before regrowing a new one
the rate of regrowth matters
so good blood circulation and nutrition is detrimental
circulation whether it be from massages or what not or just simply minoxidil
How can I stop my
Hair from curling
Don't, curly hair is great, embrace it
curling or flipping out?
If itās long you can flat iron it. If not I think youād be looking at chemical treatments. But nothing is permanent so eventually youāll just have to embrace the beautiful curls
Do not

Yeah get outta here with that uncurling. You were blessed smh
I had long thick curly hair but never was taught how to take care of it. Now I'm bald. Shave my head completely once every 2-3 weeks.
Now that you bring up the maintenance I take back what I said. Nobody taught me how to take care of mine (or what was a normal vs abnormal amount of hair loss) and past a certain length Iād just lose so much hair that Iād go and make it short again. Itās not that easy to take care of longish curly hair.
Yeah I usually put it in a pony tail. But it was constantly frizzy and knotty.
In urban Brazil hair moisturiser seems to be a part of people's upbringing, so if you have frizzy hair everyone (=people I met) thinks something is deeply wrong with you
Anyway, mine too.
Yeah I get through so much conditioner to stop the frizz
So much leave-in conditioner and hair cream just straightens my hair and robs it of all volume. Mousse works but I hate the resulting texture
Like I use normal conditioner with my shampoo but I wouldnāt say it makes a huge difference
I mentioned this to digs a while back and you might have tried it before, but as someone with very thick curly/wavy hair that also get's very frizzy. I've had a really good experience with this stuff - https://www.spacenk.com/uk/haircare/styling/hair-cream/complete-air-dry-cream-MUK200033790.html

there are lots of other options, I find it works really well worked into wet hair and then left to air dry. It holds the natural texture of your hair and leaves it feeling smooth but without feeling like you have product in it
Going to buy this asap
I trust you Soup
Although I also have to say I've seen amazing results with one product on other people that didn't work on me and vice versa
I'll cross my fingers that it works for you
Ok fine
How can I style the curls
So it doesnāt make me look fatter
Idk who lied to you but curls won't make you look fatter
Best thing you can do is figure out your curl type, try out some products made for your curls, and consult with a stylist on styles that will fit you, and what the maintenance routine will look like to determine if it'll suit your lifestyle.
Yeah its very much a trial and error thing
Having a good hair day today after cutting off a good 10ā recently. Figuring out the styling
Joe do I do this? My barber got into an accident and has to take time off and I donāt want to find a new one rn lol
There's a billion curly hair guides out there these days. I don't have curly hair so I don't know specifically but I'd be amazed if there wasn't a subreddit with tons of resources
And if you're going to lean into your curls, drop the barber and go see a stylist. Like an actual stylist.
r/curlygirl
If that's the main curly hair subreddit it is goated
I forget the name of the one that has a whole wiki and recommended routine but if that's the one then I second it
what's your routine
Fistful of conditioner after shampooing, light scrunch dry with a towel leaving hair pretty wet, big glob of Not Your Motherās curls for days curl cream, bit of Uncle Funkyās Daughter curly magic gel on top, work in product and sloppily define curls (just twirling with my fingers the parts that sometime donāt cooperate), plop everything into a satin sleeping cap and go to sleep
Hey yall! I hope it's cool if I ask in here, but I was wondering about if this hair routine idea is a good idea. I have very fine blonde hair that just really wants to lay in my face and has a tendancy to get kind of greasy, so I've been trying some stuff out. I have been using some hair clay for a little while, and it works ok, but I've found that it doesn't want to hold throughout the day and doesn't give it the texture I want if that makes sense. I've been kind of looking into sea salt spray and thickening tonic stuff to try out and experiment a bit with, can you do multiple things like that? And if so what is good to mix together?
Also, for the sea salt spray does the brand really matter? I saw a few things on reddit suggesting that it doesn't and to just go with the cheapest which seems to be the "Not Your Mother's Spray"
And then for hair clay I was thinking of trying something different like potentially the "Brickell Styling Clay"
Iāve used cheap ass spray and expensive and outside of how well the bottle sprays it, I canāt really tell the difference. Will say clay could be adding a lot of weight to your hair making it easier to fall into your face, I swapped to a styling cream after a certain length for my hair which is similar to yours but try products and eventually youāll find one that works
I have to try the overnight cap, and also learn how to define the curls
Right now it's either too much gel and my hair is more tendril-y and not enough gel and it gets frizzy
I really like this uncle funkyās daughter curly magic, if i use too much it softens up pretty easily just by running my fingers through. Ymmv of course
Hmm
I mean if I jsut let my hair dry without touching. It curls very easily
I jsut wonder how to style it
I donāt really like the full curls but some wave is nice
Hey yāall, Iām in dire need of a haircut. This is what Iāve got going on rn.
My usual go to is something like this but I kinda want to try something different
Was thinking of going the Hector Bellerin route tbh. I like the middle part but was also thinking maybe a Caesar or fringe cut could work too? Thoughts and advice would be much appreciated
I'd take these 3 pics to your stylist and go for it, it would be š„š„ on u imo. And if u hate it you can do a caesar or fringe no prob
Sweet, thanks! š
touched up my highlights for my roots and thought i deadass did it wrong but nope thankfully the wet hair was just very deceiving
owh and adding pink to my toner bc the blonde has been ashy in a weird way
Going travelling for a month between jobs from next week and Iām considering buzzing my hair for ease (and also I guess for the thrill of a radical change?) - Iāve been rocking a long-curly-top + fade for years now.
Iām worried my hairline is receding a little too much to make it work? Any thoughts?
Also worried about looking a little too hyper-masc which isnāt really my style - wondering if combining with a moustache takes the edge off
welp i fucked around and found out good blonde bits but the darker untouched parts are not ginger
when i had a buzz (to the skin) i started to shape and fill my brows in which tied in my face to the buzz cut
and to the skin you really dont gotta worry bout a receding or squiggly hairline
and when hair started growing back and the squiggliness of my hairline was (on me) was unflatteringly unkept looking, i them proceeded to use said brow pencil on to the empty bits that made it look squidly
that and shave some bits off too
if you go thru with and heed my eyebrow thing
only softly fill these parts
if you can find romand, grace taupe is great color
if not shu uemura hard formula brow pencil
ask for like a grey brown color
from pics on google stone gray or seal brown look like an ok color for you to use in both brows and hairline
the moustache definitely takes the edge off of the hyper-masc i think. also i donāt think the receding hairline has botched the style for you yet personally.
Tried some leave in conditioner for the first time today
Not sure if I took enough though..
Fun mustache
did you make sure you used enough water tho? bc apparently conditioners needs to straight up foam up to work
hence why the curly girl method of dipping hair in water mixed w conditioner works so well
Interesting, I never knew that
FWIW I think it would look good.
especially with the moustache, you have a nice jawline which is kind of hidden by your beard
Last day of long hair tomorrow. Gonna try to get my friend to air wrap it
finally got my ass up and booked a hairdresser appointment. Thinking about getting something like this. Should work with my hair but im concerned about how it looks when it grows out..
it might grow into like a fluffy wolf cut??
it looks at least a little bit layered
I think im just gonna go for it. Its not too much of a difference to my current hairstyle I think. Should be allright
Had to look that up. I would be fine with that i guess
i am a sucker for wolf cuts, i think itād look good on you
Wolf cut would look so good on you
Results are in. Not terrible but also not great. Don't know if I like how it interacts with my face. Might just be the initial weirdness though.
felt that so hard
i was really insecure about this cut right after i got it but like a week later i felt better about it
Yeah. Im just gonna sit with it
Wondering if anyone here is like me, straight, fine hair that gets oily fairly quickly. Iāve tried in the past to space out how much I shampoo but i always look like someone dumped drier grease on my head. Iāve accepted that Iām a daily washer, otherwise I have no volume and look like shite.
meee
Itās me, the answer is dry shampoo
Matte clay also works well for a bit of hold without the oily look some things give
But a little bit of dry shampoo and Iām good for every other day unless I sweat a ton
Yea matte clay is great and sometimes I can go through a good part of the next day if thatās in my hair and sometimes I use dry shampoo but I feel like thatās not good for my scalp so I try to avoid using it and rather just wash my hair again
Hah yeah as Iāve heard other people say, āwhatās the difference between a bad haircut and a good haircut? About a week.ā
i also have a dandruff problem so iāve been using nizoral to help with that since the dandruff probably has something to do with it being extremely greasy
i also use clarifiers pretty regularly
Yup, warming up to it. Its not that different from my old one, but different enough to make stuff feel a bit more intentional..
anyway, any brand recs for sea salt spray?
Iām not sure Iām looking for one too.
Iāve kinda noticed Iām thinning/ receding. It it could be all the stress these past few years of my life lol. Iām doing better now and I feel like my hair is getting healthier. That said I feel like the texture has changed and matte products donāt work as well as they used too.
I bought an expensive salon clay but the paste I got from Walgreens is working better for me.
First is the more expensive clay the other is the cheap paste. Hair seems way healthier with the paste. Clay is too dry imo. Thatās my review yāall š
@Leo (Yakkeks) This isn't sea salt spray, but a water based pomade. I use a little each morning and it's amazing at keeping away frizz and giving some definition
(also it's pretty damn cheap)
Level 3 is serving me really well and it was relatively affordable online
I tried doing this hairstyle one day https://www.ddinstagram.com/reel/DAhQS9CusL2/?igsh=MTBmM294OWJneHZoYw==

And it ended up like this
looks like you have that texture pretty naturally so you might not need a pomade or w/e the guy in the vid is using
It looks ok maybe just try styling it a little more neatly itāll be closer to the video!
Ok
yeah, i might try it again at some point, but using less product
Anyone have suggestions for keeping longer hair out of face during workouts? I tried some wire headbands but they donāt hold very well and hats get very sweaty
standard stretch headbands have generally done the trick for me. when my hair was long enough iād tie it in a bun, and that worked for most things other than movements that required lying flat on my back (bench press mainly)
When I was a girl I'd use a stretch headband to tie my hip-length hair into a ponytail. Always did the trick on keeping hair out of face and my neck cool.
My hair is long but not quite long enough for a pony tail to hold yet
oh thats the worst stage bc buns unmake themselves too. I recommend caps
bandana
and hats you can wash
stretch headband, and now that mine is long I use a claw clip
Been through a few different looks over the years, while having great beard genetics I didnāt grow my first one until 30 on recommendation from a barber.
Overall I do like the shorter cuts. Itās thinning quite a bit on top especially when compared to the sides and if it grows out, the contrast is, imo, quite noticeable. Welcome to thoughts/opinions on new things to try or keep before I just accept that a faded buzz is the only way to go and then I can lean into fun hats
I decided to get a haircut today
I specifically asked for this style.
I'd say it looks pretty fine
nice!
highlights your widowās peak really dramatically it kinda vibes
Today is roughly 5 weeks I've been growing out my facial hair. Its the longest I've ever gone. Still been trimming the mustache a bit so I can eat lol.
Should I keep going? I am not really sure if its going to look much better with more length
My goal was just to see how long I could go because I had never tried it
May need to try and actually take care of it going forward I'm so used to just chopping everything off
Y'all can hurt my feelings tho it's ok.
I think it looks good, and you could definitely try for longer. But if you do plan to keep it, definitely look into maintenance items like beard oil, trimmer, etc.
I remember getting to a similar stage before and giving up on at least one occasion and removing it all. Eventually one time I just decided to keep going and it filled out. I guess you could give it another week and see if it starts to fill out?
looks like some good growth so far
For oil is there anything I need to research? Or should I just get whatever I see next time I am out
These products are so foreign to me haha
On r/beards the most popular brands tend to be these three: Honest Amish, Doctor Nicks Amazing Man stuff, Beard Octane
But honestly it might take a little trial and error bc hair is pretty unique to individuals
hey yāall, i have wavy-ish long hair and itās starting to get grizzly even one day after shower and started to fall a lot than my short version. I donāt have much of a routine, I use Natureās 2 in one conditioner and shampoo. What are your general recommendations for routine or product?
more shedding with length is normal and to be expected, but id recommend avoiding any 2-in-1 product, they're almost universally not as good as using separate, specialized products.
If you have an ulta or a sephora near you, pop in and ask for their recommendations, or ask your usual hair stylist what they'd suggest based on your hair type.
It varies by the individual, but shampooing less frequently, and co-washing (using conditioner as a cleaner) on you in-between shampoo wash days can potentially improve the health of your scalp and volume of your hair. Some people need to shampoo daily tho. It really depends, so you kinda just have to try stuff out.
But start by getting a proper shampoo and conditioner.
Ok thanks, let me research some good conditioner and shampoo
^in my experience, my hair took a bit to adjust after moving to less frequent shampooing, but my hair and scalp have been much happier in the long run and my hair falls much more nicely now than when I shampooed every day. Ymmv
Agree 100% separate shampoo and conditioner are the way to go
Re beard oil, not a product rec (although it's actually not bad)
But my religious mother got this for me, I think hoping that she can get Jesus to me by osmosis or something
Actually kind of a pleasant oil though ha
