Selvedge Denim - Topic of the day 4/18/25
There's an interesting thread in Styleforum where Eva Kuhle at Epaulet talks about the limitations of selvedge. Because of the limited size of the fabric, there are limits to the types of fits you can develop

Selvedge Denim - Topic of the day 4/18/25
I like that selvedge is highly correlated with nice fabric, and I like the cleanness of the selvedge ID for cuffing.
That said, there's plenty of great non-selvedge denim. I have a pair of non-selvedge Sid Mashburn jeans in a beautiful indigo tone with plenty of slubbiness. It looks great.

I don't think it'll look great to add the fabric back. A creative way to handle it might be to sew in a permanent turn-up cuff? You can also resolve to only wear them with boots.

Wearing Clothes Off-Season - Topic of the day 2/5/25
Living in NYC, I find the temperature to be a challenge since it's normally very warm indoors (I live in a 100-year-old building with one of those radiators) but winters can be cold outside.
So it can make sense to wear linen shirts in winter under layers, but something about it just feels wrong. It's like the texture and sheen of linen stick out. Especially if it's layered underneath a Shetland sweater or something with a tweedy texture like that.
I've found that linen-cotton blend shirts can work with knits in the summer. They're not too shiny or wrinkly, but still cool enough if I want to stay the right temperature indoors.
Also, sunniness can be more of a factor than seasonal temperature. I don't like wearing white/ecru pants on overcast days but I'll wear them in December if the sun is shining and it looks great.

Looking for derbies
If you're interested in suede, which I'd recommend if you're leaning casual, Astorflex has good options well within your pricepoint

Also I buy 90% of everything I own from eBay lol. The interface for listing items kinda sucks (yes, sure every shirt is "woven") but the userbase is unmatched

I usually crosslist everything on eBay, Grailed, and Styleforum
I have the best luck on eBay by far but occasionally I get a Grailed hit. Just sold a Drake's shirt there a day after listing it.
I used Poshmark for a while. There are a few brands that do really well there (like Club Monaco, for some reason, and Todd Snyder). But it's usually not worth it.
