Looking for derbies
I'm looking for my first pair of derbies as a more casual shoe besides sneakers.
I'm still ironing out my personal style but Ihere's some pieces that I like, hopefully it helps narrow down the aesthetic https://imgur.com/a/YROhzMB. I like sleek, but not too formal.
I don't like the look of 5 eyelet derbies because it makes the quarter(? the lace area) look too large and busy for my liking. 4 eyelet feels like a sweetspot for me, something like https://www.heschung.com/en/derby/2021-crocus-black-anilcalf-ravel.html. Been looking at C&J and https://us.crockettandjones.com/collections/mens-derbys-collection/products/aintree-3-black-calf seems alright, although 3 eyelet feels like it's too few.
In terms of budget, I'd say 500-700 USD range is alright. I'm located in Toronto, Canada so it's a bit difficult to try many brands. Will be going to New York in March so I can add stores to my itinerary
afaik I'm a 12D on the brannock https://imgur.com/a/thin-socks-end-of-day-dYhxI3S
Thanks!

The C+J you posted leans very formal to my eye and I would not recommend it given the other pieces you posted
Canadians specifically get kinda gouged on this high end of footwear because most of it is produced internationally with no Canadian retailers
A few retailers in the GTA sell Alden iirc which would be one brand to think about
The heschungs you posted also look good but they are essentially more expensive doc martens, which could be a “try before you buy” entry level if you’re interested in that
With that budget you could also browse SSENSE, they have a huge selection of designers and you may find something you like in their seasonal sale rn
I have these from Rancourt and like them: https://www.rancourtandcompany.com/products/camden-derby-black-chromexcel
Rancourt & Co.
Camden Derby - Black Chromexcel
The ideal all-weather shoe. Stroll in style and don't fret about your shoes getting wet., Chromexcel is highly water resistant and the storm welt / Vibram mini-lug combination is built to take on the elements. The Derby style is considered a little more casual with it's blucher type lacing and pairs perfectly with deni

we just get gouged onjust about everything :joi:
You mean I shoul dgo try them vs docs see if I like them that much more?
Yeah or if you’re unsure just buy the docs, wear them and see if you like the style before committing to the bigger buy
oos in medium 💀
Gotcha, ty
Solovair makes a great derby for lower end leather footwear if you wanted a budget option, and Parkhurst makes my favorite casual derby with an exterior heel counter. Viberg is Canadian made, and they make fantastic derbies at a C&J price point
Yeah, waiting for months is the name of the game with Rancourt
If you're interested in suede, which I'd recommend if you're leaning casual, Astorflex has good options well within your pricepoint
I'm good with suede, maybe even a non-black too 🤔 A darker, cooler brown like https://www.heschung.com/en/derby/3421-crocus-hydrovelours-cafe-ravel.html, or https://www.tlbmallorca.com/products/derby-van-gogh-suede-brown-305
I'm not sure why, but I don't get the vibe from astorflex that I'm looking for. Took a while but I found https://huckberry.com/store/astorflex/category/p/91074-redflex-derby
