Was hoping to get some questions answered

Hi everyone, I am a student in university and as a part of one of my classes I was told to conduct interviews with people in fields was interested in. I have been interested in fashion and elevating my outfit choices for a while but have had trouble doing so in the past and thus wanted to combine my curiosity and my assignment into this post. I have taken permission from the mods and they have allowed me to ask you guys my questions. I have written my questions below. Looking forward to reading all of your responses! 1.     What is the hardest part about putting together an outfit during your day-to-day routine or in preparation for an event ? 2.     Can you describe the last time you had that problem ? 3.     What emotions do you usually associate with that problem ?...

Boots

Don’t see an active discussion for boots so thought I’d maybe start one

Suit jackets should be worn casually

When I look at people wearing jackets, only the ones who wear suit jackets catch my eyes. The other types of jackets (non-wool) just don't look as good. There's nothing interesting about them I've been reading people's opinions and it's mostly like this "Suit jackets should only be worn with suit pants" I disagree.. I think suit jackets should be the standart for casual outfits, blazers and sport coats are just nowhere near good compared to them...

The Drama of Big Outerwear

https://alittlebitofrest.com/2024/01/30/the-apotheosis-of-wearing-big-outerwear/ https://soundcloud.com/styleanddirection/e117?si=7ed08bc80f1b4271b7d094c3af6870d0&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing I wrote an article and did a podcast episode on my love of big outerwear and how I like to wear it. The blog/pod also goes into detail on some of the coats in my collection, especially the balmacaan ive had since 2017! Hope you like it!...

How to Discover Your Own Taste

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/09/opinion/ezra-klein-podcast-kyle-chayka.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Rk0.dLWA.Shrzu6bRDm_D&bgrp=a&smid=url-share I listened to this episode this morning, and, though they talk about personal taste in the age of algorithmic recommendations in general, I thought it had some interesting conversations directly applicable to an online fashion community. Some bullet points for discussion if you don't want to listen to it:...

Male fashion and sexyness

Something that I've noticed over the years is that women's fashion is a lot "sexier" than men's. Women have a lot of options that enhance or display the features of their bodies that are considered attractive, for example there's cleavage, cinched waists, short skirts, dresses that hug their curves, and there are very clear paths for dressing in a sexy way even if you don't have the ideal body type. Men's fashion, on the other hand, has never struck me as sexy. When I think of a sexy men's outfit I immediately think of a suit, which enhances some interesting elements like broad shoulders and the cinched waist (or v-taper in male terms lol), but suits are quite formal and not suitable for most occasions. ...

Why Rich People (sorta) Don't Wear Luxury

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0UQgrFNExc "Modern-day luxury is a spiderweb. A $397 billion structure woven together by the distinctions between classes and cultures. In this video, we jump into the web to figure out what luxury actually is, why the upper class (sort of) don't buy into it, and the psychology behind those who do.2...

Thoughts on Hair and My Own Journey

https://alittlebitofrest.com/2024/01/14/the-thing-about-hair-on-the-face-head/ Hey guys! Inspired by the countless discussions on hair we've had on the sub and this discord I finally got around to writing a blog post on hair! It goes into how I view hair as a potential extension for expression as well as my own journey to get the right hairstyle and facial hair that worked my POV. In the end, my friends and I each found our own style that made sense for us even as we subtly change our fits from time to time! I also did a podcast discussion on this if you want to listen: https://soundcloud.com/styleanddirection/e116-hair-on-the-face-and-head?si=b3d951da4f104ffaa92f2b1688534b89&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing...

Getting a watch for my 18th Birthday

Getting a watch for my 18th birthday (in about a week and a half) - my budget for a watch is £300 and ideally want to go with seiko. I've started dressing more smart-casually, favouring more smart. Any recommendations? Dress watches are preferable as I don't think it's a good idea to pair a sports watch with a suit...

Thoughts on sweaters/outfits like this?

Throughout my childhood, up until now, I never really developed a sense of fashion. I have a hard time gauging how other people will feel about certain outfits, especially if they're my outfits. I'm trying to go for a more androgynous/queer style, but nothing crazy since I'm frankly not skilled enough for high fashion. One thing I'm trying to understand is sweaters. Do people perceive the sweater in this image as more masculine, or more feminine? Is it considered masculine when wearing sweaters with jeans, but not other things? I would love to know your first thoughts/impressions when you see an outfit like this, and why...

Fashion illustrations

Hey folks, anyone wanna shout out their favorite fashion illustration artists? I really dig the old school ivy style Kazuo Hozumi drawings and all of Mr. Slowboy's stuff. I especially like the illustrations he did for Uniqlo here (https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/contents/lifewear-magazine/the-modern-layering-guide/).

Oystercore by Andrew Richards

Profile of "Oystercore": a style trend based on Northeastern/New England aesthetics: https://www.instagram.com/p/C1LA8f3uks5/?igsh=MWpibTBzZXowNm42aQ== Thoughts on this being an overall -core to consider? Is it something you've been actively implementing into your wardrobe? Do you see it as an emerging trend or something that's already at peak presentation in the mainstream? Any other thoughts?...

Old MFA favorite brands

I was pursuing some old MFA posts and encountered a number of brands that used to be popular that I hadn’t heard of in awhile. Some of them no longer exist. I forgot how popular Wolf vs Goat, Epalaut, and Unis all used to be about a decade ago. They all kind of fit into the vague Americana that was popular at the time and were a more expensive made in USA version of J Crew Anyone else have some forgotten brands?...
