Wanted to set up a thread, as individual threads under brands might have been a little too niche. Lots of cool collections coming out, which I'll share in a few.
Also generally wanted a place to discuss gorpcore in general, as a relatively new entrant in the field from a fashion perspective.
Some faves from Goldwin 0 Enquiry #5
Man the thing about gorpcore
Is that every time I see a peice of outerwear I keep asking muself "will this chafe when I wear a pack"
and also
"Can I get into my pockets while wearing a pack"
Yeah there's definitely a fine line between being a highly technical garment for "intended" use and just an annoyance for the bulk of daily use
Gorpcore is cool I think as someone who lives in the city and enjoys the outdoor look, but my issue is that I want to get more into outdoor things so I often wonder how reliable some of the clothing is
By reliable I mean durable
ALSO this clothing store that seems really cool, wooden sleepers, is associated with gorp
Yeah some of it is not actually meant for outdoors, but takes inspiration from more technical wear
I think gorp is my comfort zone because it's so practical. I just got a peacoat and I love it, but damn that thing is heavy. It's so much simpler to throw on my Patagonia puffer.
One challenge I see is that gorp can look very generic because it's so widespread. I've been thinking about trying to find a patterned fleece with a bit more character.
Yeah, exactly. So I try to find stuff that looks cool AND is also functional/reliable
LL Bean is one of those brands that I know has good looking stuff, and their stuff is made with quality and is intended for outdoor use
So I like them
To me gorpcore is looking like a dirtbag ski bum or mountain river guide. But to others gorpcore is more fashion forward technical garments
This is not how everyone views it but to me peak gorp is what you would wear to a brewery in an outdoor town in the early to mid 2010s.
pretty rad
Funnily enough the designer of goldwin 0 is the same as JLAL who wouldn't describe his own clothing as gorpcore perse which is probably why there is a discussion on here as well about what it is aesthetically
That said, I'm on the fence wether I agree with him or not
yeah i think the gorp and techwear are a venn diagram with a lot of overlap
where those lines are idk
that one nike ispa jacket that turns into a tent is hard gorp for sure i think
Do these gorp? https://www.vans.com.au/mte-crosspath-vn000cvuba2-blk.html
