Old MFA favorite brands

I was pursuing some old MFA posts and encountered a number of brands that used to be popular that I hadn’t heard of in awhile. Some of them no longer exist. I forgot how popular Wolf vs Goat, Epalaut, and Unis all used to be about a decade ago. They all kind of fit into the vague Americana that was popular at the time and were a more expensive made in USA version of J Crew Anyone else have some forgotten brands?...

Derek Guy versus Vime's boot theory

https://twitter.com/dieworkwear/status/1735419250100363527 Looks like Derek dids the funny a few days ago. Personally I enjoyed reading it, as I've always thought it was a bit meme-cringe to apply a "theory" from a book about magic & shit to the production of footwear in modern mass industrial economy....

The Great American-Made Oxford Roundup

So, a month ago I asked for some oxford advice and it ended up pushing me down a rabbit hole. Who is making nice American-made OCBDs? Where do you go when you're willing to drop a bit of cash on some nice shirts, ethically produced? There were a few options and internet research can only take you so far, so I ordered 3 of options and tried them on. Here are my results. I haven't done this before so I'm going to try this in a thread. And FYI, each of these shirts was a size large.

Objectively, what makes clothes "high quality"

I have a $4 local brand, $40 Uniqlo and $150 Brooks Brothers shirt. There is defintely a noticable physical difference between local and Uniqlo but not so much going up to Brooks Brothers I can't see a physical difference as they both fit great and are made of the same material. Another comparison, I have $40 chinos from M&S and $80 from Massimo Dutti and there are only slight differences between the two. Has the diminishing returns started kicking in from the middle price range?...

Canadian Brands: What is the current landscape?

Hey y'all, I've been more and more into the idea of supporting and buying brands local to my home and native land. I'm going to post a list of brands that I know as Canadian staples, will try and describe them a little bit, and note where they are based. Please post any that you think I've missed, because I'd like to see the full and broad scope of Canada's productions in this day and age!...

Looking for comments on this pair of Corthay Arca shoes

Hi all, I purchased these Corthay Arca from an online retailer in pre-owned condition and it was a display pair. The suede seems quite distressed. I have found some examples of distressing on this model of shoes, but not many. My question is - is this shoe actually destroyed from repeating brushing for display or is it part of “patina” design. I do like it as it is, but don’t want to pay for a “damaged” shoe. ...

Scarves : how to tie and style them ?

I feel like I use the "parisian knot" way too often and I'm not sure it's the most stylish way to wear a scarf. Do you have some recommandations on how to style and tie scarves ? Maybe share some inspo ?...

Bags. If you use one, what's your daily carry and contents?

"A bag (also known regionally as a sack) is a common tool in the form of a non-rigid container, typically made of cloth, leather, paper or plastic. The use of bags predates recorded history, with the earliest bags being lengths of animal skin, cotton, or woven plant fibers, folded up at the edges and secured in that shape with strings of the same material."

Dressing queer in the cold?

So here's my issue, I feel like when it gets really cold or it's even snowing outside, differences and individuality in clothing often get smaller. So does anyone here have ideas/inspiration/tips/whatever on how you can still dress queer when it's cold and snowing outside? How do you try to dress in this weather?

Being Early & Late: A Philosophy on Trends

https://alittlebitofrest.com/2023/11/13/early-late-a-philosophy-on-trends/ Inspired by a few of a trend discussions we've had here, I did a blog post and pod on how I view trends. TL;DR they're more of a way for me to codify certain subgenres as well as indiciate how much I want to participate in the zeigiest. I also think that some things have come around from being unpopular to popular (like wide legged pants or more preppy/ivy styling). Feel free to read! I'm also curious if you guys prefer to be early or late to a trend and how you think that factors into your fashion hobby!...

Thoughts on "Cheap" clothes and fast fashion

What's y'alls ethical consensus on fast fashion? I was recommended to make this a thread here. I'm in France and I've been wearing clothes from various brands you'd call cheap that also happen to manufacture their products in Asia. Clothes that actually last more than one season and are made well enough but probably by underpaid workers. For example, the brands of the group "Jules". I kinda feel bad about it but at the same I can't afford stuff made in Europe (or at least to have my whole wardrobe be like that) and thrift shops in my area have stupid high prices for what they sell so that's somewhat out of the equation. Wondering how many of y'all are/have been in the same situation and if you might have any tips. thanks 🙂...

The Decision To Wear Or Not Wear a Pocket Square

https://alittlebitofrest.com/2023/10/29/the-decision-to-wear-or-not-wear-a-pocket-square/ Wrote a little blog about how pocket squares aren't always essential to a classic menswear and the decision to wear one largely depends on what vibe/aesthetic you're going for!
This came because i realized I didnt' wear pocket squares as much (especially patterned ones) and then after trying them again, I knew i had some kind of mindset about them that felt good to explore! ...
