GATS
Thought this piece on the difference between Margiela and vintage GATS was interesting/helpful: https://www.complex.com/sneakers/a/jian-deleon/maison-margiela-germany-army-trainer-versus-vintage-german-army-trainer
It's funny how the numbers on the vintage ones look similar to Margiela's insignia. Per the article, the Margiela ones are far more comfortable and nicer....
What's in your pockets?
Curious to see what you all are carrying around on a day to day. Do you keep stuff in your pockets or do you have a bag to carry them in? Does what you carry change depending on the outfit?
Which current trends do y'all think will stand the test of time?
Which trends from the last few years do y'all think will stay as staples for a while longer?

Ode To The Brown Suit
https://alittlebitofrest.com/2023/10/15/ode-to-the-brown-suit/
I wrote a long piece on why I love brown tailoring. There's a lot of photos because its my favorite garment to wear (but you guys probably know that already). I also made a podcast episode about it HERE if you prefer listening : https://soundcloud.com/styleanddirection/e112-an-ode-to-the-brown-suit?si=25e76b8c8dd04789ae339701a28c6495&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing
Enjoy!...
Postman Oxfords - thoughts?
I've been really considering a pair as of late. I walk a lot but want to get some nicer shoes to wear casually as I walk around campus since I'm kind of shifting away from my black jeans and band shirts style of summer into a more dark acadamic sort of vibe with some nice coats and wool pants - heavily considering these since they match well with dark colors for me.
Thoughts? I'd imagine they'd pair well with the lulu pants I just bought...
What do you wear under your sweater?
T-shirt, button up, tank, nothing? Coordinating with the outfit or something random? Sweater weather is coming up how are you all styling what you wear underneath?
There is love for slim fits - recent runway looks. Will you try?
In particular, longline narrower jackets are being promoted. I like them, they flatter me
Menswear Is A Fandom (At Least To Me)
https://alittlebitofrest.com/2023/10/08/the-fandom-of-it-all/
I read Kaitlyn Tiffany's book "Everything I Need I Get from You:
How Fangirls Created the Internet as We Know It" and it reminded me how my past participation in internet fandom culture inspired and continues to play a part in how I engage with menswear. I've always wondered why I did this whole menswear thing in a way that wasn't about getting dressed for work and fandom was the answer.

Investing In Expression, Not Gatekeeping, and The Future: A Menswear Manifesto
https://alittlebitofrest.com/2023/10/04/investing-in-expression-not-gatekeeping-a-menswear-manifesto/
TL;DR this started out as a piece on how we should invest in expressive pieces (or details) when we recognize what we want from our clothes (just like in any hobby) but in order to do, it required me to provide some additional context and background.
So this is a long blog essay with parts on gatekeeping/elitism, the different approaches to getting dressed (pragmatism vs for fun), why what we like is worth it, and how i think the present and future for mens wear looks good. FYI there is a bit of leftist speak at the bottom, but i feel like it applied to my overall philosophy and point ...
What % of your income do you spend on clothes?
$1000-1500 (USD) is my baseline.
If something major happens (i.e. weight loss, new job, or move to a totally different climate), I might spend double.
But if I reach a point to where I already have everything I need in my wardrove, I could spend half....
What are some trends that you don't understand the appeal of at all?
Had this convo with a friend the other day and thought it'd be interesting to hear what you all have to say. The biggest one for me is bucket hats...totally flabbergasted that these are a thing. Someone will have a great fit going and then they throw on a bucket hat and immediately turn into Gilligan.
This is a lesser one, and I'm not even sure how on-trend it is these days, but colorblock stuff has always been totally lost on me. I almost never think it looks good. What say you?...

Post your favourite version of a "dad shoe"
Wanna see how it differs amongst all of us.
This is what I have on today, Adidas Lexicon Consortiums, got em for 15 bucks at the Haven moving sale....
how much is too much?
The more I read here, it's fairly obvious I'm basically stuck in time and not on-trend, which I'm 100% good with, because I've found a look that I enjoy and works for me and I'm happy with it. For those of you who are always on the newest trend and keep up with the changing fashion, do you just accumulate a ton of stuff over the years? My look is relatively simple and I've downsized my closet a lot over the years and the stuff I've kept are items I feel are more 'classic' or 'quality' (whatever...
