Bags. If you use one, what's your daily carry and contents?
"A bag (also known regionally as a sack) is a common tool in the form of a non-rigid container, typically made of cloth, leather, paper or plastic. The use of bags predates recorded history, with the earliest bags being lengths of animal skin, cotton, or woven plant fibers, folded up at the edges and secured in that shape with strings of the same material."

I had a mission workshop sanction vx for a long ass time, gave it to my girlfriend after 8-9 years of use, she used it 6 months and gave it back, I'll probably get to use it some more.
I switched to a mission workshop spar vx with backpack straps. I tried messenger and cannot do it.
I have spinal curvature so I try not to carry heavy on one side. I like backpacks with padded straps.
I like that a lot of mission workshop stuff allows for optional padded hip straps
i have an eg bag similar to this, they come in lots of colors patterns and fabrics. i find i use it more in the summer.

I'm partial to the LL Bean Boat and Tote: It comes in 4 sizes, short and long handle lengths, 10+ colors, and has both a zip top and open top versions. It is a functional item first and foremost but I also like how it looks.

I also have a backpack from timbuk2 I use for commuting: again it's functional first but it looks fine. It's compact but still holds a ton of stuff.

I also opt for a zippered boat n tote as my everyday bag.
I use this Bleu de Chauffe bag without the shoulder straps to carry my laptop and misc. stuff. Most of the time I like it, sometimes I feel too businessman-ish carrying a briefcase (even if it’s not leather)

My answer is the billingham Hadley small, its worth every penny. The barbour jacket of camera bags
Billingham USA
Hadley Small Camera Bag - Khaki FibreNyte / Chocolate leather
A stylish but simple camera bag that will fit a small-to-mid sized DSLR or compact system (mirrorless) camera and 2-3 small-to-medium lenses. Still popular, this bag is the predecessor to the Hadley Small Pro. Made in England with 3-layer waterproof fabric and real leather.
Tote bag
Lint
A small rodent
A handful of trail mix
Filson briefcase for work. Laptop, remarkable 2, powerbank, yeti, and other misc things I don't want to stuff in my pockets
If I'm taking a short walk or shopping, I bring a brown sling or tote bag and pack them with a water bottle, headphones and a portable charger.
If I'm out for a work or day trip, I carry a leather messenger bag from Scuola del Cuoio with fishing-style gusset pockets. In addition to work equipment I'll pack it with a beard brush, hand cream and eyewear
Whoa this is a great bag! I thrifted a green Canon bag with gusset pockets while I keep working on the hobby, but I feel like this type of canvas bag will be in my future
It’s 1000% worth the money, especially because it doesn’t scream “there’s expensive camera equipment inside me”. It’s a great not too big not too small bag that fits a surprising amount of stuff without being too bulky
I have it in olive
these 2 are my mains. Topo Designs Rover pack and Battenwear packable tote
For work it’s either this old mountain smith daypack or my pilsen community books tote. I usually have everything pictured here + my laptop and snacks.
For not-work it’s still either my tote or this NFPL shoulder bag. I’ll keep my sketchbook and watercolors, notebook, book-book, and also some snacks in it.
For photography/field recording I use a Topo Designs camera cube bc it fits my mirrorless, snacks, a couple of batteries, and my zoom recorder. It’s got a strap but also fits nicely into backpacks.
Filson briefcase. Best everyday bag I’ve had so far. Gotten more expensive recently though. https://www.filson.com/bags-luggage/briefcases/rugged-twill-original-briefcase.html
that black tote is extremely cool
🙏 The bookstore is also v cool
Freitag laptop bag. I've generally got my computer, pad of paper, some business cards, lint roller, hydrogen peroxide spray, and some small first aid sundries.
https://www.freitag.ch/en/f305-roy?v=5900349
What is the hydrogen peroxide spray for?
I get a lot of bloody noses and hydrogen peroxide cleans out bloodstains in clothes really well.
Also very helpful as a quick disinfectant if needed.
I think it's recommended against using it as a disinfectant fyi
old use case is not advised
Don't use it on your skin, but on other surfaces
I use a Goruck GR-1 that I've had for years. It's basically bombproof.
i appreciate this thread because i'm figuring out my school daily carry and could also use a good duffel for traveling between school and home
my daily carry for just going out is the mini uniqlo u bag, it has a great interior pocket and i like the design + material
classic ll bean boat and tote is definitely in my future
I also use https://rapiddominance.com/product/RAPID_DOMINANCE/MILITARY_BAGS/R31 as a gym bag - it's pretty solid, and fairly cheap
I got a Billingham Hadley as a birthday gift! It might be the same color as @pzonee ‘s, looks great and is a big step up for carrying my camera. Can’t wait to take it out into the wild
Hell yeah it’s a great bag, I take mine everywhere you’re gonna dig it

totes or a tiny like basic hand bag thats also gender neutral. bc i wear makeup as a man i have simple touch up makeup (eyeshadow stick that doubles as concealer, mauve eyeliner that i use as lip liner but works as eyeliner in a pinch, brow pencil and a powder compact that i also use on my hair when it gets too oily).
aside from the content depends on occasion
if ik for sure ill be shopping i bring my tote and use it in place of bags from the store till its full, consisting mostly just my airpods, card wallet and loose money(not into wallets). a 60cm radius folable uv umbrella when forecasts say itll rain.
for tiny bags same smaller contents except id bring a power bank and or charger depending if the occasion im going out is alone or to meet friends(no charger w friends bc id mostly be talking to em face to face so my phone battery depletes very slowly)
owh no lip balm bc i usually put it on before my lip color which already is a glossy moisturising formula which i blot off
awaiting my new work bag (le campagne confort bag) to go with my daily rider (cross colours tote).
daily carry is straightforward - phone, keys, earbuds, field notes book and pen, hand sanitizer and waterbottle if i remember. usually my phone lasts a full day without charging
Mostly use my Blue de Chauffe bag. Book, notebook, pen, lighter, Swiss army knife, chapstick, hand sanitizer, tobacco, ear buds if I have my laptop, dude wipe, tampon and bobby pins for the wife if needed.
Daily bag is a slightly older version of this: https://huckberry.com/store/filson/category/p/55336-dryden-ballistic-nylon-briefcase-14l
i bought this and told myself it wouldn’t be my daily driver and then it became my daily driver
i pack my card wallet, a phone charger and a brick to put it in an outlet, a multitool, a pad or two during period season, tylenol in general, advil/aleve during the time i need it, bluetooth earbuds and the cord for it. add or remove several extra things depending on whether i’m also going to work or not
I've been using this tote from FDMTL for the past year or so, and now I've been thinking about buying one of those Dsptch tote organizers. Does anyone have any experience with those? Seems like a good idea to keep things tidy and not worrying about my water bottle flipping over.
i don't, but i've generally heard good things about DSPTCH
I use these bags.
Which would you choose, brown/orange or green?
your preference + how many bags do you have + context
in a vacuum i like the orange but if i already own 50 copper bags maybe i'd buy the green instead

that does fuck
But wish it had more front pocket organisation. I have started enjoying clipping my keys in my bag instead of keeping them in my pocket stabbing me all day
And some main compartment side pockets for an umbrella, sunglasses case, etc.
This is all a lot to ask for a JanSport tho
yeah that’s the downside of jansports. killer bare bones basics vibes but like no organization
it’s a bag made to be used with a billion other little bags
like students do
I could look at Herschel but their colours are kinda meh

fjallraven has some interesting patterns but i think it falls victim to the same issues as a jansport bag does
My current work bag is Fjallraven. It has decent organisation but it’s only 10-12L capacity
And okay comfort
i’ve seasonally rotated into my dumbass kitchen sink just because it’s huge
and it has a shoe compartment
What?
this mfin thang
the big sibling to the bathroom sink
That is pretty big, and some heavy duty hardware on the front
yeah it fucks
heavy as shit tho
That ain’t nice
yeah it’s at least nice to have a bag with a dedicated shoe pocket tho
True. I am considering a larger overhead bag for travelling. Currently look at the Topo Designs 30L or 40L
I also found this as a daily commute/work bag. It’s expensive but I really dig the vibe https://topodesigns.com.au/products/daypack-leather-navy-brown

Daypack Leather Navy/Brown
Our classic Daypack. This stylish silhouette with a Horween leather base is the ideal travel companion, schoolmate or pack mule whether you're commuting through town, across campus or hitting the trail. Description With a laptop sleeve, it's great as an everyday work bag, yet it has enough room for extra layers on the
But it doesn’t have a key clip which is necessary for me
yea that was a very subjective question, bc i personally wouldnt buy green nor terracotta bc it wouldnt go w anything in my closet
and neither would ivory
that would leave black
but blacks too borinf aka i already have black bags
This might be the right backpack for me. Decent size and style, plenty of volume and organisation, and a key clip and water bottle holders https://topodesigns.com.au/products/session-pack-olive-navy
Topo Designs

Description Introducing the Session Pack: our newest agile backpack with top-notch features, classic Topo styling, and ample space for the days' gear, because being on the move should be stress-free.Features and specs • Top carry handle • Outside pocket with interior organization • External laptop sleeve fits most 13"
Also, decent price, in Australian Dollars 🇦🇺
these are the two from Topo Designs that i interchange based on what im doing. The leather one is acceptable in my work setting. I love their bags so much and try to plug them whenever i can lol
I saw someone wear this cos bag on here a while back and I kept an eye out for it on the secondhand market. Last week I was able to snatch one up for a good price, been loving it for the couple days of use it's had.
I love the designs too but idk if I could get used to the pull-cord top load design of many of their popular designs
yeah i totally get that
Hence why I’m looking at the session pack, do you think it’s still work appropriate ?
At my workplace it would be appropriate, but it depends on yours, do other people carry backpacks at your work? as far as backpacks go i feel like it’s inoffensive and appropriate but my office skews pretty casual
Same. I see people with other Topo bags and sometimes band tees & etc, I would only do that on a Friday
yeah, with work stuff if other people are doing it and haven’t been told otherwise i think you’re fine
Just feels weird to be so casual at work, y’know?
yeah it definitely varies a lot!
I just watched a video where someone mentioned a comparison of Bellroy backpacks to a TMNT shell and idk why but it makes me want one now haha
I’ve finalised on these backpacks for work/casual
They have similar features
This is another bag I use occasionally
Is that DIY or Custom?
Custom. It was a bag I brought at a stall in London.
Camden or Portobello?
Looks like a better version of these bags that I passed up on at a local arts fair
Reminds me that I need to recycle my old jeans. Maybe as pockets for my denim jacket?
I have to admit that the tooled leather tote by whyte looks really tempting, its reduced by 45% on nmwa europe and im just a sucker for floral tooling.
I don't think it was either of those 🤔
I tried looking for the Instagram account of the person who made it, but I couldn't find it
My daily carry is an Acronym 3a-1
These are my usual contents:
Sunglasses
Hand sanitizer
Yo-yo
Rizatriptan
Micron pens
Portable charger
damn, that’s a flex and a half
Nice bag
Is the rizatriptan for migraines lol
Yeah they're hereditary 🤕
Felt. I haven't had frequent issues in years but they used to be so debilitating
I got this Crumpler backpack on Monday and have enjoyed using it this week, such an improvement
Does it hold its shape well?
3 years into owning it there's some places on the back that show noticeable wear, but it doesn't affect the structure.
I recently started carrying my weekender for running longer 🚗 errands and it’s been great. It didn’t get much use before, but now it’s always in my car’s trunk. Highly recommended vs a tote, probably not great if you walk everywhere though.
I almost bought it yesterday, but decided to wait until I start my new job to understand how much stuff I will travel with. Some of the reviews say that it doesn't have much room to pack multiple things
