Getting a watch for my 18th Birthday
Getting a watch for my 18th birthday (in about a week and a half) - my budget for a watch is £300 and ideally want to go with seiko. I've started dressing more smart-casually, favouring more smart.
Any recommendations? Dress watches are preferable as I don't think it's a good idea to pair a sports watch with a suit

Number 1 is probably my most favourite out of the three - its simple design is something that attracts me more than 2 and 3. 2 is not likeable at all due to the gold - I don't like gold that much and the watch would stand out a bit much
I think 3 is okay but a sports watch obviously isn't ideal with formal occasions. Kinda like pairing trainers with a suit
One for me
I think 1 is the best, but none of these are dress watches
1 for me
You can get the sbtm range in that price as well. They're solar with radio control timekeeping and have some lovely dials
1 and 2 are
Thanks
This is actually
So in my budget
Bro
I love this green one
they could be made dressy if you put them on leather straps, maybe, but a 'dress watch' is a pretty specific thing that those aren't
compare them to say, an orient bambino, and the difference might be a bit clearer
that isn't to say you couldn't wear them with a suit, I'm largely just being pedantic
Seiko, Orient, Citizen
all great more budgetty bang for your buck automatics
My daily is a seiko 5 as well, its 50 years old and doesn't miss a beat
Im actually wearing one of these on a leather strap right now and it's dressy but you are technically correct
Of those you posted, I like one the most! If I was in your shoes and starting my collection again, I'd check out the Presage Cocktail time for a dressy watch
right within your budget (they're on sale rn, at some shops like teddybadassarre) but the sunburst dial is very beautiful in person
Super nice watches that lean into the dressy style while being wearable for most occasions.
Nothing in the same price range has dials as nice.
FWIW, I really like the Bulova archive watches.

Though for Bulova, it's worth shopping around or looking on eBay to see what you can get, "retail prices" tend to be inflated
I got the Lunar Pilot because I'm a science nerd, and it's a nice chronograph. https://www.jomashop.com/bulova-watch-96b251.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PMax%3A%20%28ROI%29%20Smart%20Shopping%20-%20Sale%20Watches%20%24100%20-%20%24500utm_id=18335885666&utm_content=&utm_term=&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA75itBhA6EiwAkho9exfhWzWs22A_zqg3nqQyFzhRGjcKHJYJ2BI9V1bTDIASCC2cxqrKjhoCf_AQAvD_BwE

worth trying on first, they are big watches
Oh yeah, good point
I've got a 7.6 inch wrist and they're good sizes for me
But if you've got a small/medium wrist, might not look good on you
Im in the uk
But they look soooooo nice
chrono24 has stacks of them for decent prices available to the UK
The presage are super nice, unless you're getting it first hand I recommend r/watchexchange. I got a green dial presage from there for only 200$ US. I have a smaller wrist (asian guy) so the 40mm dial looks fine on me, probably looks perfect on a bigger wrist. The Tissot PRX goes for around ~300$ on gray market (look up Jomashop.com), it is a sports watch but I think the integrated bracelet make it dressy enough for a suit.
There's also the orient bambino line if you're into dressy watches with straps,~40 mm case but they also have 38mm. Generally the smaller the case diameter is, the more "dressier" it is.
Also, the timex marlin. They have a chronograph one aswell, looks great
There's also the Tissot Gentlemen
All of these should be well within your budget if you look around enough. The PRX, Gentlemen, Marlin are quartz movements (if you care about), the other are either automatic or mechanical.
You can always check grey market websites, most of them do ship internationally although for a bit higher price.
Theres also a mechanical prx but its a fair bit more expensive
Yup with the waffle dial but those are like 800$ USD way out of budget for him
At that price point get an alpinist
*an older model alpinist
Im a brown guy @tin.
Hands are skinny 😂😂😂
Wrists
Bengali orogin
origin
These watches should be fine tbh
Chinese guy myself but our wrist sizes don't differ
I would avoid watches with case dials over 41mm
I think the sweet spot for us is 36-38mm, I def recommend the PRX in 35mm for you then and 38mm bambino. But you can def get away with 40mm bambino and even though the presage and marlin is 40mm, it looks alot smaller
loads of 38mm and under bangers for dress watches in particular
Which model is this ?
I linked the SRPB77 (white dial) and the SRPB41 (blue dial)!
there are many other variations. here is a USA link of their references listed at full msrp. but they're often on sale at other sites in the EU

Thank you!!
of course! have fun on your watch journey! wear them in good health
i found the right one actually
Discord ruined the quality so the blue hands looked white
This is what im after
I think it suits me best
But because of most of u i got this far
it has a really nice sunburst white dial
i know about watches now 😂😂
@Sc3ptor thoughts?
now im debating for blue or white
white would go w most things
but blue looks niceeeeee too
blue wouldn’t go w my daily clothes tho
It's a handsome watch!! I say if you can, go in person and try them on
I tried to today
One shop started showing me stuff online 😂
aw geez
I would personally say if this is your first main daily watch, it'd be wise to get something that will fit a lot of your outfits
that way you'd be more incline to wear it every day
that being said, blue is also a very versatile color, and I think it's a bit more subdued when wearing other colored clothes
check out a few youtube reviews and they should show you what the watch looks like in other lighting conditions. Seiko is notorious for very uh.. underwhelming product photos for their most beautiful watches
lmao my dad has 2 seikos
has had many thru the years i think
hes a big seiko fan
what about a sarb
I went for this
Very nice, fits you well
just started a hobby thats gonna make you broke
Only if you listen to people on the internet telling you you need more than one watch!
Looks very classy!
