sorry, should have replied instead of just posting. What's the more complicated version? What you described is exactly what I did, and it didn't work, initially.

I don't think that's the problem though. I measured by taking the old tube out after marking the top of it, then using a micrometer to measure the depth of the hole in the extruder to add that much extra length on it. The clog is happening well below that, though

oh, I see now. Guess I never noticed. Could have sworn it was brass, too. Shows how much attention I paid to that little part 😄

the brass fitting? It looked like it was fixed in place. How do you adjust it? Or do you mean to adjust the tube?

Yeah, I did that. it wasn't working so I came over to my desk to type up the above, and when I went back it was clear again. 🤔
maybe having left it on at 270 for long enough?

weird artifacts on gayer-anderson cat
My initial surmise is that it was printing too fast. I'd done a max vol speed cal in orca and applied those limits to the filament, but unless I'm missing something, orca doesn't let you set a maximum linear speed for filaments like other slicers do. So when I looked at the print speed and saw that it was much, much higher than it should have been....
Well, I'm going to crank all the speeds down and add a brim and try again.

To clarify, it's impossible to orient the model so that supports aren't required on the outside surface

missing perimeters?
also I started over from scratch, sort of, in that I reset to the factory generic pla and HF .2mm profiles, but still using my .6mm nozzle printer profile. Currently printing a temp tower and it looks as one would expect. So it really looks like i've done something terrible to the other profile(s), just not sure what
