It’s because they’re nylon, Mil spec is nylon since it dries fast. Could try and hunt down an original n3b those were cotton with wool insulation

Just know that they will be big, military insulated parkas are designed for when it gets cold cold and they don’t care about being puffy/big.

military n3bs vary depending on when they were made, early ones used a different fabric and had a coyote fur hood, more modern ones switched to synthetic fur and nylon

Side note down parkas are very warm which is good but not so good for being active in the cold. Military surplus is also a great way to get good parkas for relatively cheap. Also look at mountaneering brands like arcteryx or outdoor research for slimmer builds

Budget is key. But if we are going in a similar price range Jim green has a vellie which is a chukka. Full stitch down construction and resolable, plus affordable at $130 usd
