Recommendation for my black/silver style?
I'm currently trying a new style
* Neutral colors (mostly black, some dark grey. occasionally light grey)
* Minimalist, solid colors - no logos/branding or patterns
* Sterling silver necklaces and bracelets (I think the sheen of silver adds a brightness to it that steel doesnt). I ordered some pieces from Luke Zions.
* I may get a piercing
The intention is to have somewhat of a gothy look but elegant refined and not overdone. I want a slight edge, but to still be approachable.
Currently, my go-to outfit is a black tanktop, a solid black unbuttoned overshirt, black jeans and a pair of all black sneakers. But I would like to branch out from that? Are there any recommendations you'd have for this style 1) What kind of jackets should I get for this look? Would a leather jacket - in context of everything else I'm wearing - make it look too edgy and overdone?
2) Overshirts: While I wear mostly solid clothes, I am open to having a neutral color overshirt or 2 with an abstract pattern on if it fits the look. 3) Belts. I'm going to get a black dress belt with a silver metal buckle. Are there any other belts for a casual setting that would work? (Would a eyelet grommet punk rock belt be overkill?) 4) Shoes. I currently have Asics GelVenture 9 and Adidas Kaptir 3 (both in black). And I have Stan Smiths if I want white. Should I get a pair of chelsea boots? Would tactical boots or something like doc martens be overkill for this look?

One can that can give a very smooth shave on the face?
(If it also has an attachment to trim bodyhair, thats nice too, but not a hard requirement)

Do you buy clothes as individual pieces or outfits?
When you buy clothes, do you have a plan for what kind of outfit that it would go with?
Or do you just buy a piece because it looks/feels good on its own and you decide what you intend to wear it with later?

What % of your income do you spend on clothes?
$1000-1500 (USD) is my baseline.
If something major happens (i.e. weight loss, new job, or move to a totally different climate), I might spend double.
But if I reach a point to where I already have everything I need in my wardrove, I could spend half.

All White Look
Solid white tops, pants and shoes. Your thoughts?
I think minor details like fabric quality and ironing matter much more, because when its just white, theres nothing to distract you from imperfections.
Also, making sure the shades of white are similar enough.

Why do collars exist
The original purpose of collars was for cooler weather. To tie a necktie around it to insulate your body from the cold air. That combined with a suit jacket kept you warm.
This became the standard of mens wear in northern cities like London and Manhattan.
But at some point the southern U.S. and southwest U.S. developed. Latin America, Africa, middle-east, etc. are developing. It's just odd to expect something northern-specific to be the standard everywhere.
But nowadays, collars are a vestige. People wear it just because it associated with formality, rather than any actual purpose.

Banana Republic
Imo, worth it on sales if you can get it 50% off, though sometimes you get 70-80% off on clearance or discontinued styles.
I like their poplin dress shirts, pima cotton t-shirts and some of their t-shirts/polos that are luxury-touch/soft-touch brand. And some of their jeans.

Fear of wasting money?
Probably half the money I spent on clothes the past 2 years was a waste.
* clothes that didn’t look good after a few washes.
* Clothes I thought fit well, but then didn’t in practice.
* the skinny jean phase I regret. * I lost weight , clothes don’t fit me. You live and learn. My mindset now is “hell yea or no” and “it’ll always be there another time”. But now I’m a bit too apprehensive about buying clothes to where I don’t. I guess trial and error is just part of the journey?
