Crates plugin with pity system
Anyone knows a crates plugin that implements a sort of pity system? Some cool pity ideas: 1. Hypixel mystery dust that allowed you to purchase whatever you want after getting enough of it. 2. Gacha pity that allows selecting something you want and guarantee it if you already rolled n times. Similar ideas are fine

Opinions on legacy (1.8) and modern servers (1.20+)
Just wanted to read people's opinion regarding this topic While modern versions are the go to for most players and server owners, the reality is that there's still a lot of people playing on 1.8 (even 1.7 which is +10 yrs old) and worst, some new players go straight to 1.8 And some players simply can't play on latest versions because of old hardware. While it's realistically not appropriate to keep running 10 yr old software for server owners, there are projects that patch exploits, update some stuff to make it compatible with modern java versions and even backport modern patches and optimizations. Do you think this is appropriate? In my opinion, I believe that 1.8 should be left to die, but since players ask for it, I don't see anything wrong with server owners wanting to use it, as long as they know what they're doing. What's yours? -# I feel this was an interesting topic to discuss and wanted to hear different POVs

Error when sending a message
Has anyone encountered this error when sending a message on chat in modern Paper versions?
Failed to update secure chat state for Biquaternions: 'Chat disabled due to missing profile public key. Please try reconnecting.'
Failed to update secure chat state for Biquaternions: 'Chat disabled due to missing profile public key. Please try reconnecting.'
It doesn't happen with vanilla clients, I sometimes have this problem as I use No chat reports Fabric mod, however, other people don't directly use that mod also sometimes encounter that issue. It doesn't matter much as I don't like chat reporting so I disable enable-secure-profile in production, but I was wondering if this could be indicating that I'm messing up something while using AsyncChatEvent in a custom plugin. I tried with a chat plugin that also uses AsyncChatEvent and didn't have this issue at the beginning, only started having it after changing to mine, and then changing back to that one. I got a bit tired of experimenting all this by myself for a couple of hours now, probably someone here already has the answer

What’s Sponge nowadays?
I have close to none experience when it comes to modded servers, I hardly ever interact with those projects. Even worse considering that I stopped doing servers in general for 2-3 years maybe. Around 2017 I tried Sponge as hybrid server for a friend smp Today, I just checked Sponge page and apparently has become something entirely different with three variants: SpongeVanilla, SpongeForge (likely what I used back then), SpongeNeo (neoforge) They now have their own ecosystem of plugins called ores and support forge mods But what is it now? Back then (from what I remember) was close to what mohist, cardboard and similar projects were, integrate the bukkit api into the forge ecosystem, but now it has a vanilla version apparently? And have their own plugin browser instead of having to download then from spigotmc? I got sort of confused and their “About me” is not that clear to me when compared to the Sponge I remember

Question about home servers
Back when I was at uni, a teacher told us that just like we “rent” servers for a limited time, we can also provide our own home servers so they keep them plugged in, refrigerated and with internet connection, so customers only pay for that, instead of the whole machine. I can do my own research on the topic, but I don’t quite get the proper keywords to start, does someone know how this kind of service is called? (or if it even exists) Since this is a minecraft related discord, I guess I should also make the question related to minecraft… While this is definitely overkill, did someone tried this in the past? If so, what was your experience?

Terralith datapack performance
Since Iris is not available for 1.21.3 and development probably will slow down (from what I understood) since it was made free, I'm considering on using Terralith How's performance in terms of RAM and CPU usage compared to worldgen plugins like Iris or Stratos? I don't know much about what mojang has been doing in terms of datapacks, so I don't know if those have worse/similar/better performance compared to a plugin that actually interacts with minecraft code. Iris I felt it was fast and resilient if you use it properly so, I'm not sure how big the difference will be compared to using a datapack Has anyone tried both to share their experience? -# Technical language is fine

Properly preventing drops on death
Hi, one of the first plugins I made was one to prevent players from dropping all their inventory, instead just a few items. I wanted to re-write that plugin so I wanted to know if anyone knows a better way todo it. What I did at the time: * World had to have keepInventory true * When PlayerDeathEvent triggers, iterate through the player's inv and call dropItem at some items Disadvantages: * Little plugin compatibility, specially those that also interact with player inv * Curse of Vanishing breaks unless hardcoded into the logic * If I forget to set every world with keepInventory, then players will lose everything

Hosting a server
I read in another post that there might be better and cheaper alternatives to what I already have. So, what do you use when hosting a server? What are your opinions? Both VPS and Hosting are fine. For simplicity, let's say that experience is not a problem and it is for a single Paper server with around 40-70 people. Good amount but not enough justify paying for the absolute best available on the market.

About UniverseSpigot
Can someone share their experience with UniverseSpigot? Apparently their discord only has tickets for reporting bugs and purchasing, but I'm not gonna purchase as of now, so not sure if opening a ticket just to ask questions is correct. So... I decided to ask here hoping there are Universe customers around. How was the performance compared to forks like Purpur or Leaf? Did it had any plugin incompatibilities? I read that their system is limited to 6 ips, is it for 6 ips simultaneously (if the backend is closed, the ip no longer counts), or are those 6 ips in total that have to be manually reset? I also read that they might request more information, what kind of information do they ask? How was the support? In terms of quality and response times (I'm aware that 24-48h is expected for this type of product, specially considering timezones) No need to answer everything, I know those are a lot of questions Still I'd be grateful if someone can share their experience :parrotdance:
