Terralith datapack performance
Since Iris is not available for 1.21.3 and development probably will slow down (from what I understood) since it was made free, I'm considering on using Terralith
How's performance in terms of RAM and CPU usage compared to worldgen plugins like Iris or Stratos?
I don't know much about what mojang has been doing in terms of datapacks, so I don't know if those have worse/similar/better performance compared to a plugin that actually interacts with minecraft code.
Iris I felt it was fast and resilient if you use it properly so, I'm not sure how big the difference will be compared to using a datapack
Has anyone tried both to share their experience?

terralith will murder your mspt if you do chunkgen with like 6 players in different directions
you basically have to pregen
Yh, I thought pregen a world was a norm at this point š
I actually forgot to ask abt that
Is Chunky ok to pregen terralith?
heres the issue with that tho
my 40k pregenned world is also 50gb
yes
anything works
vanilla is around 30 in my experience š
very fun!
wild
wait wtf
this is slow... terralith on a 5900X generated at 90 chunks/sec on my 5900X
eh, they say +
When I used Iris it generated a bit slower than vanilla
terralith once generated has no diff from vanillamc, its all vanilla blocks
and interactions
only issue is the generation, as long as you use a worldborder and pregen it'll be completely fine
However, even tho new chunks weren't loaded yet, never felt a tps drop
ah alr ig
on terralith I've had giant cpu spikes on my 5900X during chunkgen with multiple players
always caused tps drops
constantly
but once I pregenned, it could even run on my OCI free tier stuff
perfectly fine
So yh, probably won't be an issue for me then
I usually pregen the world in advance
Like 10k radius maybe?
Took from 1 to 2 days
on what cpu tf is taking 1-2 days š
-# bad cpu
damn bruh
what cps
even on oci free tier I got like 30 cps
š
of terralith chunks?
yeah
avg like 24-30
yh, I was running servers on a vps with a ~2000 cpu mark
gahhdamn
thats... damn
just damn
That's actually part of the reason why I'm prepping a sv, I want to try the new host
cool, hope that goes well
thx

@Ashank hi, srry I tag you
By any chance did you also tried Incendium or Nullscape?
Apparently, besides generation, also add custom mobs and environment particles, which are like managed via vanilla commands as mcfunctions.
If you did tried any of those, were there any compatibility or performance issues? Vanilla commands should be way slower and heavy compared to plugins and will execute even after generating the chunks
Hi i use datapacks from that team and it is all relly well made and as long you pregen there are no issues there.
Nice, I'll give them a try without disabling anything then
Incindium killed my TPS
Nullscape was fine
Probably the biomes with custom mechanics
incendium is abesloutely horrendus
I may have to disable those mcfunctions then
for performance
Are the performance issues related to the custom mobs and features it has?
Those spirits? I would expect to be tps killers for example
Same for these slimes
basically the entire mod/datapack
entities et
probably will have to remove those mcfunctions then
leaving only the worlgen
hope I can do that without breaking anything
wasn't that hard in the end, just removing both
functions
and tags
folders
there are no longer custom mobs or mechanics so, in theory, should have the same performance as terralith
still won't be completely sure until I test it
I had the intention of forking their repo to share the changes, but didn't since it's just removing two folders in each data
folder40k? only 50gb? Somethings wrong with my storage usage then lol. Granted i'm not using teralith but the epic terrain datapack pregenned to a worldborder radius of 25k.
