Couldn't say it's "normal". Some small amount of people do it because they like it. Some do it because it makes learning to dress better easier.

20-25L bag capacity sounds fine. You may want a false bottom (raised laptop pouch) which reduces any chance of breakage if you drop your mac

I think he's just watched a few dated movies with traditionally attractive movie stars and then gravitates to whatever simple dated clotihng they're wearing tbh. If you're not immersed in fashion or stuff it's a common thing people do.

Lighting for the movie is different depending on the scene. But the third picture makes the suit look more faded olive (?) compared to the black woman on the left who is wearing an actual grey suit.

No one is gonna find the exact same suit from the film Jerry Maguire (1996) staring Tom Cruise. That's near 30 years ago. The colour though appears mid-grey and a normal worsted suit blend/pattern.
