Horizontal stripped shirt. Yay or nay ?
I’ve been eyeing horizontal stripes lately, and these look good on you. Enjoy!

Thrifting
Gonna have to check out zenmarket when I get home.
I like thrifting, but rarely find anything in person. Still a great tool to browse stuff. I’d never have looked into alpha industries if I hadn’t come across one of their jackets at the thrift store.

Barbour Ashby Fitment?
I fully agree. Since I don’t plan on bundling up, the Large is the better fit of the two. Still. I think ultimately I decided to pass. I didn’t like it well enough to drop the money on it. But I’m still pondering it so it’s not entirely off the table.

Barbour Ashby Fitment?
I live in SoCal, so even this feels like too much jacket. At most I’d be wearing a tee and a thin sweater or flannel. I was wearing a thick brushed long sleeve in this photo. I can certainly pop back over and try an XL on after the gym.
The first pic is pretty close to my arms at my side, right? I was relaxed there, just had to have the other arm up.

I like the denim and they’re interesting, but honestly probably wouldn’t reach for them.

Hair 💇♂
From a kid to teenage to early 20s I had mostly buzzed hair. Played around with spikes and frosted tips in my teenage years before giving into laziness and buzz cuts again rather quickly.
The first major change I had was to grow my hair out from my mid 20s to my early 30s. It was down to my waist when wet, but was wavy and curly (2B-ish) so would sit around the base of my shoulder blades normally. Going through some personal changes and rediscovering myself again led to the next major change that I currently rock. The mohawk.
A few years ago I went through a pretty big life change and needed to rediscover and reinvent myself. Long hair was tiring and just felt like it was holding me back, so I ended up shaving everything off except a 3 inch wide strip down the center of my head, which also got shortened. Now I rock a mohawk of about 4 inches long, but I just keep it locked back with styling fiber, not completely vertical like it could be. It feels the right level of masculine, alt, and easy maintenance for me right now. It feels good. It feels like me right now.

Both of those are pretty solid examples yeah! I think it’s a combination of growing up with shows like Akira and Initial D and nascar and motorcycles has left a soft spot for the style.

Budget Mens Dress Shoes
Thanks for the info, I probably won’t be buying any more, but I’m not gonna burn the pair I own or anything. It’s unfortunate because I do like the looks of some of their models.

This is the first I’m hearing about literally any of this. I like the way they look, and haven’t heard anything about the owner’s politics. I’m not doubting you, but do you have any evidence so I can update my views? A bunch of people yelling “they suck, they’re ugly” doesn’t change my opinion much, but evidence of alt-right politics would.

I’ll disagree until I hear a convincing argument. Most reviews have them as solid budget shoes and I haven’t seen anything but an occasional anecdote otherwise.

Another alternative is Thursday boots. There’s a handful of boots that can pass for semi-formal, and I’m pretty sure they make a dress shoe too. (I’m wearing a slightly more rugged shoe from them right now).
You can find them on eBay for around the $100 mark (if you know your size and how they fit), but I agree that if you need them in the next week or two, Nordstrom Rack is probably your best bet.

Why do you dress in the style or styles that you do? - Topic of the day 12/15/24
I like texture and geometry and interesting art, and have to synthesize that with my love for sustainability mixed with history. I’ve come to appreciate the basics but in new and interesting ways. Patchwork, sashiko, natural materials with texture and feel is a bit rebellious in a world of plastic and fast fashion. It’s the closest I get to the cryptid inside of me that says I should dress in rags and bones and antlers and leaves. Somehow I make this work in a professional environment.
