Thinking of adding elastic waistband and/or drawstring to pants - thoughts?
I am having trouble finding pants that fit a slimmer waist but are roomy in the hips and thighs. I like a relaxed fit in the hips and thighs but most off the rack pants that do have a relaxed fit in the hips/thighs will be huge in the waist. I thought about going to the tailor to take in the waist, but I also workout and do bulk/cut cycles where my waistline might fluctuate an inch or two during bulk season. So I don't want to tailor something that fits but will be too tight when I gain weight. Also, I heard that taking in the waist the traditional way shouldn't be done more than 2-3 inches or so, whereas I'm looking to take off around 4-5 inches. This has led me to the thought of adding an elastic waistband and/or drawstring to pants like my jeans and chinos. The idea is that I can tighten accordingly in the waist without taking away fabric from the hip/thigh area. I'm wondering if anyone has done this before. I'm not too picky about looks, but I would like some second thoughts here.

How much can you take in gurkha pants/shorts in the waist with the waistband thingy
Looking to buy a pair of gurkha shorts for the first time and i notice there's this waistband thingy that I think can tighten/loosen if needed? How much do they usually tighten by or are they mostly for cosmetics?

Does collar gap matter in dress shirt if you don't button the top button
I prefer not to wear a tie anyways. I think collar gap matters if you wear a tie but if you leave the top button or two unbottoned does it matter if your shirt neck size is larger than usual? Trying to find shirts that fit in the chest as my priority

Thoughts on T shirt that's oversized in the shoulder but normal everywhere else?
Don't have pics but some t shirts fit normal everywhere but the shoulder is like the oversized style with the shoulders hanging off. Is that a good look?

Leather shoes/boots sizing question
Are they supposed to fit a bit loose and then as the shoes break in they feel more snug? I am Brannock 10, 10.5D but the shoes/boots I have tried on feel pretty huge. I dont have a lot of in stores near me so I'm hesitant to purchase online and get the wrong size

Gauge and Ply in sweaters
My understanding is that higher ply means more fibers woven together -- so higher ply means higher quality However, gauge refers to the thickness of the yarn? Lower gauge is more chunky, higher gauge is more fine? Does gauge affect the quality of the garment?

To dart or not to dart
I have some dress shirts / button downs and debating if I should add darts. For dress shirts I tuck them in and there's this spoof of air in the back. Darts help fix that, but the dart lines seem a bit unattractive. If there's a pattern i.e. gingham/stripes, it also throws off the pattern. Another concern for button downs that I may wear untucked, is that I feel darts on untucked shirts look weird? Or maybe that's just me I have also tried shirt stays and they do a good job pulling the excess fabric down. They are a bit annoying to put on, but the pulled down look for shirt stays also seem off, it's like the shirt is pulled down on my chest and my nipples show etc I do not want to take in the sides, because then it would be too narrow width wise. It's just the back that has excess fabric Do y'all like the look of darts, and if so, is it ok on untucked button down shirts, and do you prefer darts on solid colored shirts and/or patterned shirts?
