Sitting down with Overcoat
Stupid question but do you take off your overcoat if you sit down in a chair?

I tend to take it off when I go indoors.
like you hang it on the back of a chair, or?
or on a coat hook.
well yea that too, i was asking because it's getting cold here and i was wondering what i should do if i wore an overcoat to a bar
It's a common question. Car, train seat, classroom seat, office seat, all kinda different cases
The answer tends to be:
If it's still cold, keep it on, sit on it. Like getting into a cold car.
If you can find a good place for it, take it off.
Otherwise keep it on
Keeping it on while it's warm isn't a great solution... which is why fancier places have coat checks. Now if you trust a coat check at a bar is another story but it should be fine probably
People ask all the time because the logistics are often awkward. Overcoats truly work best when you take them off as soon as they're no longer needed for warmth but it's not always possible
