war of 1812 U.S uniforms weren't too bad either though, esp the early more ornate ones.

What Do You Splurge On? - Topic of the day 9/28/24
Managed to tempt myself for now from buying any more jackets after owning like 7 different sport coats/blazers, 4 different chore coats, a rain jacket, a khaki levis type 3, and 2 chesterfield overcoats, plus a red harrington.
I think I ended up wasting a lot of money on jackets/coats tbh.

What's going on with the lapel on this jacket?
It's usually called a tab, storm, or ghillie collar, and probably isn't suited for a business jacket, however it would be at home on a sports coat for sure, and maybe the odd non brass button blazer.

What's going on with the lapel on this jacket?
Before the 1840s or so lapels weren't pressed in the way they are now, and the buttonholes were functional and closed all the way to the top, eventually this along with an older style of notch collar disappeared, but this came back as a functional addition to countrywear/sportswear.

What's going on with the lapel on this jacket?
It's a functional detail for inclement weather, back when Men in the West wore these kinds of jackets out in the country for activities like hunting, hiking, fishing, etc.
