What Do You Splurge On? - Topic of the day 9/28/24
Fiscal responsibility is usually the right move but sometimes you feel the itch to drop some stacks, you know? What kinds of items do you splurge on: basics? statement pieces? custom options? Are there certain types of items (shirts, pants, shoes, etc.) for which you prefer to splurge?

What I like but in particular I’m a sucker for clothes with a cool story
all my hobbies. worth it though
trying to find the right guidi boots for this fall atm. and some nice wool gab black pants.
Unfortunately, lately the answer for me is shoes
In person purchases while travelling. So restricted where I live so when I can go to a brick and mortar and try stuff on I’m at peace with supporting the place paying full retail.
i consider most of my clothing purchases to be a splurge by default tbh
Plain white tees
And detergent
For someone living in a tropical climate, damn do I focus too much on purchasing outerwear.
Luckily, I do need jackets/sweaters for the strong office AC in my workplace. But 2 years ago, my bias towards outerwear would be hard to justify, seeing as I would only be wearing them on public transport or in university classe
In-person purchases at local stores that carry shit I like. Like, I know I can probably find a lot of the EG/orSlow/whatever stuff I’ve bought at Glasswing or Blue Owl secondhand for cheaper but I want to support places like that when I can.
Also, what Smiles said.
Private white V.C flight jacket. $350 used, already a brilliant deal but still by far the most expensive thing I own. No regrets though. Only other thing I'd spend that much money on is a pair of nice jeans.
i buy almost everything secondhand, and that includes shoes sometimes, but i’m willing to spend retail prices on brand new sneakers (made in USA New Balance typically)
also i’ll buy my favorite plain white tees and white socks new, en masse which sometimes feels like a splurge being mostly a thrifting / ebay clothing buyer
Shoes.
five guys
also if it's older than i am there's a good chance i'll accept spending more money it's just what it is
I'll overpay for shit that actually fits me especially if it's vintage
Runway pieces, particularly if the item was an important part of the collections theme.
Also, original versions of iconic pieces, because YY loves to re-release them.
Absolutely footwear. I think that what I’m willing to pay for most other things in my closet is still within the realm of reason, but I’ll spend an insane amount of money on shoes and boots and I don’t even bother justifying it at this point.
You know you spend too much on shoes when you call it “footwear” lmao
Last huge splurge was a watch, but that’s been a super-long term hobby. Outerwear tends to be a big splurge category for me too
got me
I also splurge on outerwear, but less frequently than shoes
Pants, particurarly high-rise
and sometimes ties/scarves.
Managed to tempt myself for now from buying any more jackets after owning like 7 different sport coats/blazers, 4 different chore coats, a rain jacket, a khaki levis type 3, and 2 chesterfield overcoats, plus a red harrington.
I think I ended up wasting a lot of money on jackets/coats tbh.
Bit of a personal question where I splurge and on what
Are you me?
If I'm going to be dropping big money (for me) on anything it's going to be footwear. I've had so many cheap shoes just... Fall apart.
There's a voice in my head that's just like "when it comes to footwear there is no such thing as overkill."
Yeah. It do be footwear. Footwear and to a lesser degree pants.
I think thats also a function of the things that I want for footwear (and to a lesser degree pants) being somewhat hard to get in europe on the secondhand market.
What MFAD tells me to like
Gotta have your PSI on point at all times
If only lol
i splurge most on shoes and coats because that’s usually what you need to splurge on for it to hold up to some beatin
I'll splurge if I'm getting a new laptop. I also tend to spend a fair amount on video games. (bought the new Zelda game the other day)
This is going to be odd to say on a fashion discord but I don't tend to spend much money on clothes and I feel like I should probably be more open to spending more or buying more clothes in general. At most I might extend a bit if I'm getting a jacket/coat, maybe also shoes.
Its very funny, bc my perception of what is an appropriate price for clothing has been terribly skewed
