trying to build up my winter jacket collection
Id rec figuring out your needs and going from there. for example, something for:
- cold & heavy precipitation
- mild & heavy precipitation
- business settings
And so forth.
Parkas aren't really bizcaz for most people, but that's also not really the point lol they're for protection against the elements (they're also staples in some styles, but that doesn't seem to be where you're heading?)

Essential Winter Tops
Like if you were asking "what do i need to stay warm", that's a question with some pretty clear cut answers. But you're asking about style, and that's up to you.

Essential Winter Tops
Sweaters are totally fine and wearable in any setting. I'd recommend wearing an undershirt with them not necessarily for warmth but to prevent needing to wash them after every single wear.
You have a lot of options with sweaters. You can do chunky knits, fine wool, mohair; you've also got a ton of different styles like turtlenecks, crewnecks, v-necks, cardigans...
But without knowing what you usually wear nobody can tell you what would be "essential."

winter where?
and wdym by essential?
I live in one of the coldest regions of the US and what i need for winter depends on how cold the day is actually going to be, if it's snowing or raining, if I'm going to be taking public transit or walking, if I'm going to be spending my time indoors or outdoors or a mix, etc etc etc.

Trouser recommendations?
nah man, it'll change your silhouette and might make you seem leggier in pics, but your height is your height. the only thing that can make you look taller is heels. Warp is dead on with his first post.

Recommendations to soften hair
Your best bet is speaking with a stylist at a salon, since they will be able to determine your hair type and see how your hair responds to product.
Uploading a pic here would be helpful.

Reccomendations for styling a stocky build?
Id recommend looking thru #waywt if you haven't already. There are a lot of body types here, and your body type genuinely should not be a concern for styling yourself. It will be a concern for sizing sometimes, but that's why it's important to understand size charts and learn how to measure your clothes.
Here's an inspo album I (a bigger dude) put together that features some bigger dudes: https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1117803378521673768/1295253737669001277

Boots in southern france?
ur skin tone, features, and build have literally nothing to do with anything you wear.
boots are super common and wearable tho. If u have any pics of outfit styles you wear frequently or looks that you like, drop those in here and we can give u some recommendations for brands and boot styles to check out.

Elwood and Length?
🤷♂️cropped is very much on trend rn, fwiw the one you've pictured isn't unwearable by any means, it might just take some getting used to, or the style just might not be for you.

Elwood and Length?
Idk what to tell you, they're marketed as cropped and they have the exact measurements on their sites. This is why we recommend never going solely by the the tagged size and always reading size charts.

Self-tailored clothes:
Id rec not to focus on avoiding "faux pas", but rather picking a few key looks you think fit the character perfectly (runway is a great idea) and making sure you nail those details. Fashion hobbyists, especially those making repros of specific styles, love the details and aren't really concerned with following whatever rules are currently trending
