Shopping malls: where to shop?
The local mall is pretty dogshit since I'm in a burb in Texas. I'm in a conservative area, so there's not a lot of interesting fits happening in general.
Most malls seem to have JC Penney, Dillard's, Macy's, that kinda thing. Or at least whichever of those companies still exist and their contemporaries. Or Pac Sun, Zoomies, the typical kinda thing.
Online is tough because you can't feel the material, get a good idea of the fit, etc.
Where are you usually shopping if you're stuck with a wackass mall?

online is the answer, i fear.
getting an understanding of how garment measurements work, safe brands that carry what u like wrt material/fit, & being able to filter thru the noise to find what u want are essential skills to build.
And if you are open to secondhand, listings on eBay and other sites will often have more detailed measurements than you get from online retailers selling new stuff
Whether buying new or used, pay attention to return policies. Expect to make some mistakes that you will need to return, and try not to be hard on yourself when this happens.
What style do you like? People have good luck with J Crew, Banana Republic, Gap, Zara, Uniqlo, Abercrombie and Urban Outfitters at most malls
i was afraid of this but thought it might be the case
char has some good store recs, but ultimately if all u got is macys and pennys it ain't worth it
those are usually the go tos, but at least around here they seem to be behind on the times a bit
there's still a lot of slim and skinny fit errywhere
Yea you might have to go to the city which might have some better malls
that's probably the move as much as I hate making the drive
Macys sells a lot of Polo Ralph Lauren if you’re interested in that
Nordstrom rack or saks off fifth can have some good stuff
main things that are missing around here: high waisted jeans or trousers, anything androgynous at all. nice sweaters that aren't a billion dollars. everything is preppy, western, out of the zeitgeist at large, or fast fashion
nordstrom might have some stuff that's a good point, i think there's one at another mall in another burb here
Zara and urban outfitters should sell high waisted jeans and androgynous items
Is it worth going to a major city near you and going to individual more specialized shops?
Express should have high waisted if that’s near you
(They’d probably be in the women’s section)
zumiez is okay for t-shirts and sneakers, if you like the skater vibe
they run sales kinda frequently, shops (usually) have decent staffing
as far as texas uniqlo goes i think they recently opened one in DFW somewhere
other than that everything else holds true ^^
yea i thjnk they have a uniqlo at north park mall up there. i heard a rumor one was coming downtown here… we’ll see!!
thanks for the input everyone!
