Iris 1.8.0 beta 4 crashes when I turn on any shaders
Probably they acquired some other version of Iris in the Discord server which also describes itself as "beta 4"

afaik the problem you're describing should be fixed in Sodium 0.6.0, which is available on Modrinth/CurseForge

Iris incompatible with embeddium
the author of that mod also has explicitly said they won't make it work with Sodium, and they are a contributor to Embeddium...
actually, I think they were saying that they were afraid we'd sue them or something? I don't know, they've gone off the deep end.

something is going wrong because Sodium is only trying to use a small fraction of the memory it is allocating (<3 GB)

your GPU only has 8 GB of VRAM, but the screenshots where you show an issue have Sodium allocating 9 GB or more
