Honestly most likely fit issue if you're amab wrt to women's knits is the shoulders and arms being slimmer than you're used to for that chest measurement. It'll also likely be cut for someone 5 5-5 9 and shorter in the waist, so the sleeves and torso might be shorter than you expect if you're over ~ 5 8 or so

Depends. If it's a knit fabric you'll be fine. If it has princess seams or bust darts, you might want to skip it unless you have a very muscular chest in which case it might emphasize your pecs in a fem way (which might be cool depending on what you're going for)

Location and how if affects your style. - Topic of the day 11/10/24
of course it influences your style lol, curious as to why people would think otherwise. i grew up in nz and felt WILDLY limited wrt style bc all i wanted at the time was hot topic/fishnets/ corsets/egl etc and it was quite difficult and expensive to get stuff like that there in the 00s esp as a clueless and poorly connected teen.
the people who dressed creatively/subculturally/ in a way that "stood out" in nz were pretty few and far between too, which meant we'd have to be a little braver to wear something unusual. nowadays i live in nyc and the diversity of dress is insane - my neighborhood has a ton of people who dress in nonwestern traditional clothing and don't stand out at all bc it's ubiquitous, but if i get on a train to like the LES or whatever i see suits, sweats, homme plisse, crustpunks, egl, microtrends, etc etc. whatever you can imagine, i feel like it's someone's everyday uniform here. it feels nearly impossible to stand out which i love

Why do ties have 3 pattern pieces?
Yeah. ties are cut on the bias, silk tend to come in narrow widths, piecing is a more efficient use of the fabric

Women's Brands
Keep in mind if you're shopping online that most models in womenswear are pretty tall - like 5 8-5 11, and a lot of clothing is pegged/pinned in in photos to make it look more fitted on the model. Check out stuff in person if you can!

Alternative wedding outfits
So you could wear just about anything right? What is it about suits and dresses that make you uncomfortable? There are lots of variations of like, "party" or "special" clothing so it might be easier to figure out what would suit you through eliminating elements that you don't like.
Also, just to be sure, do YOU feel like a dress shirt/collared shirt (and trousers I assume) is too boring or is that an idea you're getting from somewhere else

Request: suit inspo
ooo idk what your budget is but go to paris and get a husbands suit lol. drakes london does beautiful stuff too. for something less pricy there's suitsupply, though the fabric options will be more limited.
tobacco (or whatever colour you like) linen would be really nice and easy to dress down/split into separates if you wanted to thrash it later.

Request: suit inspo
I like wearing suits for fun and I already had a dark suit so I went for something SLIGHTLY more offbeat (brown microcheck kinda thing) but I agree that if you're not a suit guy/likely to wear tailoring much a really nice dark navy suit would be great to have for any time you DO need one. other weddings etc. If you ARE a suit/tailoring/formalwear guy or have a particular style you're passionate about then absolutely go for something fun that you'll love tho, especially if you can comfortably afford it

LOOKING FOR OVERSIZED/BOXY T-SHIRT WITHOUT HUGE SLEEVES
You could also check out some women's departments - proportion wise I've noticed the tees tend to have slimmer sleeves even in the fuller cuts. They're likely to be smaller in the shoulder too but it could be worth a look. They'll probably be shorter in the body already too so you might not even need to alter that.

Navy blazer: Spier Mackay MTO vs Natalino mock leno vs Armoury balloon
If you're gonna wear it very infrequently and you're not a blazer/tailoring guy in general then I would probably go for spier or natalino. Maybe try natalino or OTR spier first before you risk MTO in case you're not a good fit for their block.
I love my model 3 - it's a beautiful jacket. But I wear it a lot bc I just really like wearing tailoring, which helps justify the cost to me. I also got it made in a really sturdy, patterned cloth - it can get a light stain or two and I'll continue to wear it like I already do.
Also, a huge plus for the armoury is going there in person to get advice on fit and complimentary alterations - if you're not able to shop there in person I think some of that value is lost.

How to tell if the quality is good on custom shirts?
If your main concern is durability then bespoke might not be worth it for you. Durability is more about the fabric imo - pick a thicker, easily washable fabric that won't shrink a ton. Good bespoke shirtmakers will likely be able to advise you on fabric but so will customer service at proper cloth etc - and people here who wear a lot of business appropriate dress shirts will also likely know. If a really great fit and handwork is super important to you too then bespoke is an option, but I'd ask/search on styleforum rather than here probably idk

general question about building a new wardrobe
Another source of inspiration can be the people where you live. Start really paying attention to what people are wearing and what you like or dislike. It's great to see normal people going about their day in clothes. This will also give you an idea of just how much you'd stand out in a particular style. I'm not saying this as a deterrent to standing out - I'm definitely usually the only one wearing a suit and/or tie in my neighborhood when I do, but I just enjoy the clothes and accept that some people are gonna notice it.
