it's not without merit (big pants as armor, and maybe a sense of intentionality in how you present yourself to the world) but that could've probabaly just been its own fleshed out idea

i'd still look at narrowing your preferences - look for fits in general (#waywt #inspiration instagram etc) that you like and specifically the choice of shoe, especially for "workwear" fits

that said imo the minimalism and athleisure influences are more pronounced in your pics; imo i'd lean into those and get a chunky sneaker. without a budget/location it's hard to give specific recs but salomon xt-6s and new balance 574/1906/99x series all come to mind and have various colorways

have they been washed yet? if so, then they'll loosen more with time and wear.
if not, i'd exchange them out for one that fits your leg (whether its sizing up or trying straight leg)

Why does this look bad
i agree with the others but the only thing I'll add is that "bumched up" feeling might be because the back rise is set too low (which i also encounter though i tend to just shrug it off) - if you pull the back of your shorts up it will probably go away
