Chunky Shoes
When you say you’re looking for chunkier shoes, what is your goal with that? And do you have pants in mind to pair with them? I think when buying new shoes it’s important to consider how you want to style them and pant/shoe interaction can make or break a fit with chunkier shoes

Intra-group status is definitely an interesting concept as it relates to fashion. If someone is perceived as a leader within a social group, I’m certain their fashion choices are in turn perceived differently by other group members, both consciously and subconsciously

Which color varsity is more versatile? Navy or black?
Depends on the rest of your wardrobe. For most people I agree navy is gonna be more versatile, but if you wear black jeans every day or something then black is gonna be better.

Yeah I think there is such a thing as "trying too hard", but I'd define it more along the lines of trying too hard to fit in with a group or an aesthetic that isn't really you.
When it comes to experimenting and having fun with fashion, there is no such thing as "trying too hard"

If you want to do your own digging, it looks like a classic collar mid-length wool coat. Some retailers might describe it as a topcoat or an overcoat. It has a classic collar as opposed to lapels, lapels are probably more common but you can definitely find plenty with the classic collar too

Do the navy trousers work here?
I think the trousers work well with the jacket but I don't think the two of them work with the black shoes. Black shoes pair well with a full navy suit, but if you're bringing brown into the mix then I think the shoes need to be brown too IMO.
