toolboard device conflict
I followed the manual process rather than using the configurator, and changed the USB serial number (not mentioned in the instructions, but it seemed the likely culprit) and now things appear as expected

already have that. That's where the green log message came from, presumably, but it aborted the print anyway 😕

the peak-to-peak measurement varies a bit, up to .215 mm (giver or take a um)

mushrooming filament, unload variables have no effect
given the conversation in multi-material, it might just be because I did the unload at the default temp of 220 (this filament prints well at <200)

Used the newer unload macro for a bit. It seemed better, to begin with, but when I went to unload my "white AF" PLA filament, it blobbed up again, worse than previous times. I had to pull the filament out from the middle of the extruder and cut off the end before I could pull it the rest of the way out

the plan to check the size of the holes, non-destructively, is set aside as well. I don't want to have to take apart the toolhead again.

disabling the final step in the new unload macros (_UNLOAD_FILAMENT_FROM_COOLING_ZONE_TO_EXTRUDER) by overriding, it still mushrooms a bit but not so much that I can't pull it out with only a little resistance. I'll have to try again with it reenabled for comparison.

obviously can't fit a camera in there to see what's going on, but I've switch tip forming mode back on, and will probably experiment with that for a bit, but I'm currently wondering if the reason for the mushrooming isn't from pushing the filament against the nozzle as I previously suspected but rather is from the gears pushing the filament up at its limit. I guess the way to test this hypothesis would be to change the unload process so that it doesn't fully disengage the filament from the gears and try pulling it out by hand the rest of the way when it's done. Kind of curious, though, that the upper part is catching the filament but not the lower part, implying that the lower part has a larger hole for the filament than the upper. Tempting to drill out the upper part a tiny bit, but being a destructive action, I want to keep that as a later option.

looked for enable_object_processing in every file under /home/pi and other than documentation (*.md) it was set to false in both the old and the fresh ratos installs.

though maybe that's why the one time I tried to cancel an object, it tried to print it anyway. That is, the mainsail interface seemed to respond and work as it was expected to, but ... the underlying print cancel didn't work

I don't think I ever explicitly did anything with enable_object_processing, unless I made a change and immediately forgot about it. All I remember doing is the exclude_object section and the slicer settings

one of the most recent changes I made was adding the [exclude_object] section. This makes me very suspicious given what I've heard about it having a significant impact on printer performance.

3DO camera is probably toast, so I'm unlikely to reconfigure it, and I'm currently waiting on a new one along with all the other toolhead parts

I'm bridging between this and other related issues, but after configuring both of my logitech webcams and running a home and tilt, I wasn't seeing dropped frames. I'll probably start adding back my customizations bit by bit until I start seeing dropped frames again.
