Turning Points - Topic of the day 8/4/24
my turning point was leaving the military and realizing my entire civilian clothing wardrobe was mostly cheap/worn out shit that I didn't even particularly like that much to begin with when I first bought it and deciding I wanted to wear clothes that inspired me at least a little bit

How do you know? - Topic of the day 2/7/24
Anyone who acts like there's one "right" answer to an obviously subjective topic and responds with righteous indignation to any sort of disagreement is probably not a good source of advice
When it comes to actually getting good general advice though as a starting point I generally aim for finding areas of consensus across a wide range of perspectives, for instance maybe searching the same basic question across online fashion magazines, Youtube content creators and Reddit. Just going exclusively by one general community can be kind of hit or miss

Clothing Organization - Topic of the day 1/28/24
I got a system for my pants/jeans with white and black hangers. All the pants are on black hangers on the left side of the closet and and all the white hangers are immediately to the right of them, and every time I wear one set of pants I just move it over one white hanger from where it was before. That way I can track how many days I've worn each one since it was last washed without having to like, write it down or mentally track it all

Vuori makes some quality athletic shirts with the most obnoxiously long neck tags I've ever seen and I recommend clipping that shit off immediately

Gum sole vs all white sneakers
The general consensus I've seen that I tend to agree with is that if you don't have either one it's recommended to start with all-white sneakers because it's basically a good default for just about any color combination or outfit, and if you find yourself wearing a lot of blue jeans or tan chinos or some other clothes that compliment gum shoes well to look into getting a pair at that point
One advantage gum shoes have is that they tend to be a lot easier to keep clean so if cleaning your soles regularly is something you really don't want to have to deal with it might still be worth getting them first

Gum sole vs all white sneakers
I have gum sole sneakers pretty much like what you're describing and the main reason I'd want to use an all-white sneaker instead in some instances is mainly for the color profile. You can easily pair all-white with pretty much any color outfit or style you want but gum soles add that layer of brown that can stand out to a degree you might not want if you're wearing it with, say, an all-black outfit or stacking it with a bunch of other neutral colors. Also the way gum sole sneakers are typically designed gives them a bit more of a preppy/formal look than most of the common athletic white sneakers out there, which once again may not be something you're going for.

getting that sweet government funny money once I start taking college courses and being able to finally finish kitting out my apartment and wardrobe to a point I'm satisfied with
finishing my "lose a bunch of weight while eating the bare minimum" phase and gradually going to the "actually eat food I enjoy in reasonable quantities while progressively bulking up again" phase

Gift Suggestions Series: $20-$50 - Topic of the day 12/6/23
Mostly all the 2D systems like the genesis, snes, GBA etc, some N64 and PS1 but performance is mixed. There's some big performance buffs beyond this you can get in the $60-$70 range that can better handle a lot of early 3D consoles with systems like the Anbernic RG35XX+ but the sub-$50 range is definitely a lot tougher to get something decent in.

Gift Suggestions Series: $20-$50 - Topic of the day 12/6/23
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806055456887.html this is the best under $50 retro handheld currently on the market, currently on sale from a bunch of chinese manufacturers on ali express for around $42 plus free shipping
I'd definitely consider getting this as a budget gift for someone young who's interested in game emulation and would enjoy tinkering with custom firmware and the like
