these are my go-to socks as a gift. not the Best In The World, but unique.
they wash well, and wear really soft even after washes. Very different than normal merino, and you freak out people as they realize brushtail is possum (from NZ where they're invasive)

I'd definitely consider getting this as a budget gift for someone young who's interested in game emulation and would enjoy tinkering with custom firmware and the like

I've gotten a few bandanas as they are such fun Boy Scout prints that I love.
the Knestknit socks they sell are 11/10 (though conventional hiking socks in practicality compared to the above which are Their Own Thing
had the other shorter socks (rec socks) as well - pass on those. Elastics in em have sucked for me on a few pair

Mostly all the 2D systems like the genesis, snes, GBA etc, some N64 and PS1 but performance is mixed. There's some big performance buffs beyond this you can get in the $60-$70 range that can better handle a lot of early 3D consoles with systems like the Anbernic RG35XX+ but the sub-$50 range is definitely a lot tougher to get something decent in.
