How to prepare t-shirts for alteration?
Good point, definitely should start with one tee. I've had a couple of trouser hems done there but nothing else.

Sometimes advice given is very heavily location dependent and it's obvious that they're from a different place.

Yup that guy who turns up to dinner in a poorly fitting black suit when everyone else is in t-shirts and hoodies

Sportswear in Fashion - Topic of the day 7/16/24
So it's true they're still banned from certain situations. I mostly remember them being very much banned on non uniform days in school and not allowed in college. I never see anyone wearing them casually unless it's a match day, but I also don't like football and only have a couple of friends who do so maybe I'm not seeing as many as you do, or maybe it's also a reflection of where I live.

I mean, fuck me for thinking a thread titled "sportswear in fashion" is about sportswear in fashion and not just jerseys

What's that saying about the difference between a cult and a religion being about 2000 years? The difference between sportswear and casualwear is about 20 years.

I am realising, however, that some people are thinking of sportswear as wearing a top of a team they support - which is a totally different scenario than wearing a top of doing a sport if that makes sense

I just can't imagine wearing a top that's like "track athletic team" over my body that's clearly not run in years unless it's for a bus

Also interesting to read about how football/soccer tops are perceived in different cultures. In the UK, it's very much associated with hooligans and footie tops are banned from various situations and are generally frowned upon outside of match day.

Would be interested to hear how attitudes to sportswear as casualwear differ between people with a slim or athletic build vs plus size people. As a fat person, I feel like wearing stuff that's overtly sportswear is kinda awkward unless it's something so mainstream that it's lost the sporty connotation - e.g. Vans skate shoes, retro basketball shoes, sweatshirts, etc

Navigating Dress Codes - Topic of the day 7/14/24
As a gender nonconforming person, dress codes are hard. I don't want to follow the women's but the men's can be too rigid. I get more leeway than men in the same situation so I try to interpret it in a way that I still feel like myself. In the case of uniforms, when I've had to wear them as an adult, they've always been the same for men and women so there's a certain comfort in that, but I hate wearing uniforms for an extended period of time (months, years) because I feel like I lose a bit of myself. I could have a further rant about school uniforms but that was a long time ago and things have changed a lot since then. Society as a whole is more casual than ever so I think jobs that enforce a strict dress code are seen as less desirable and may be a significant contributor as to why someone doesn't accept a job or stay in a job.

Graphic Tees - Topic of the day 7/13/24
Man, when I was a teenager, I'd wear the most cringe t-shirts from Camden market. I think back then, it was very much a case of "don't look at me, look at my funny t-shirt" due to crippling insecurity. I did a 180 into only wearing plain tees for a while but these days I'll wear the occasional graphic tee.

is it weird to have the same bag in several colorways?
Nah, you don't wear them at the same time so it's not like anyone will even notice.
