I’ve had something of a throw-it-against-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks approach to fashion in that I previously would wear a ton of styles collided, so making something destinct work for me has mostly been an exercise in removal. I think I resisted more masculine clothes earlier in my transition until I found a proportion that had a cute tomboy sort of effect, high waisted big pants def were key.

I wonder if this microtrend (of which, tbh, this is the first I’m hearing) there’s a kind of fusion of a distrust of the flimsy, meretricious present and a disavowal of the conservative rigidity of the past. Like perhaps fashion these days feels too fast, too surface-level, too many options, novelty obsessed and irrelevant in the blink of an eye, all of which might make the fantasy of grandpa’s closet full of enduring mid century uniforms, nostalgic and sturdy, seem like an attractive alternative, but subtract the pearl clutching of transgression and add the ecclecticism of the current vibe, the grandpa who gets it.

Knitwear i’m vibing the tight stuff, but the detail that really won me over is that the yarn is chunky at the shoulders and tapers down to finer weight, really cool detail and i’m sure really difficult to pattern!

I’m lucky to have a very chill family who wouldn’t bat an eye at me looking queer. For holidays I wear something just one step dressier than my norm, on par with what I’d wear to a nice restaurant, and maybe a hint of seasonality with the color palette.

Once i asked for nice towels since it was something i would be pleased to receive but didn’t want to budget for myself, but I underestimated how particular my taste is even with stuff like that. When your loved ones buy everything from amazon it really is impossible to enable them to gift you something good.

Unconventional combination I want to explore this season is aloha shirts worn with f/w textiles. There’s an old Y’s Bis Limi collection which I can no longer locate that had these amazing coats with hawaiian floral motifs, the contrast has forever been an aspirational one for me.
