True. I actually wasn't specifically thinking about diffusion lines when I started this, though. I was thinking more about brands that make at two level without making explicitly clear. The example I mentioned in the OP was actually Folk. They don't have a diffusion line, they just sell a cheaper version of their clothing through discount stores (TKMaxx). (Or you could say it is a diffusion line, but it's a stealth one, I guess). Others that I know also do this are PRL (part of RL Corp which also has diffusion lines, of course, but also makes different grades of its "mainline" PRL label). I feel less people know about this than know about Lauren RL/ Armani Exchange etc.

You may think it's well understood but I live next door to a big outlet shopping center and you would be amazed by how many people just look at me blankly when I tell them the Armani Exchange and Boss they buy there are not the same as they would get if they go to a flagship store in London.

I might be wrong but I think they are made by people who have no connection to RL Corp other than licensing the use of the name.

Not sure where you live but here in the UK there are actually pretty strict laws about stating RRP and discount prices. That's why if you go into most outlet stores these days you won't see them listed as RRP/ discounted. They just say "outlet price". Again, this might not apply outside UK.

Yeah I know... I was wondering if anyone ever made a list of brands that do this? One other weird thing about it is that some of the products like this actually have an RRP listed on the TKM website. They shouldn't have this, if they've never actually been sold at that price. Unless the brands run some sort of scam where they put products on sale at an inflated price in a very limited way or something, just so they can then ship them to outlets/ TKM and claim they are heavily discounted legit products.

I think it was Douglas Adams who wrote "designer clothes are clothes made by a clothes designer, as opposed to a carpenter or bricklayer" or something like that.
