[Updated] Steam client bugged update indicator after switching between desktop and game mode
[This is an updated version of a post I made yesterday and incorrectly believed to be fixed] A weird bug with Steam on bazzite-gnome-deck (running the latest stable 40.20240427.0) on a Steam Deck LCD. Sometimes in game mode, Steam will report that a Steam client update is available. Suspiciously, however, this update will "install" instantaneously, and the update indicator will later appear again. At first I thought the pattern was random, but after a few days of this, it looks like the bugged update indicator comes back when switching between game mode and desktop mode. Yesterday when I was trying to debug this, someone suggested I check the steam stdout output to see if there's any clues there. Indeed, you can see in my attached .steam-stdout.log Steam seems to believe an update is available, and "installs" it suspiciously quickly looking at the timestamps. But nothing seems to pop out as a possible problem, other than the fact that it claims I am opted in to a client beta when I am not (message is Opted in to client beta 'steamdeck_stable' via beta file not sure if this is normal for bazzite on Steam Deck)

Steam constantly "updating" itself
Ever since the 3.0 update, or at least shortly after it, Steam seems to always believe there is a Steam client update to install. In game mode, it shows the "update available" icon even when there is no Bazzite update to install; if I click to install the update, it "installs" instantly and triggers a Steam client restart. Similarly, every time I switch to desktop mode, Steam pops up with an "installing update" window which also "finishes" almost instantly. Based on this behavior, I have to guess that there is no actual update to install and that Steam is bugged in thinking that there is. This is not a huge issue as I can just safely ignore it and Steam still runs fine, but I figured you all might want to know about it anyway!

Waydroid fails to start: [gbinder] WARNING: Service manager /dev/binder has died
After upgrading to the most recent bazzite-deck-gnome release, 39.20240328, my previously working Waydroid installation now fails to start: the booting animation appears for a few seconds but then the window closes, while on the command line it shows the following error: [gbinder] WARNING: Service manager /dev/binder has died. Upgrading the Waydroid image via waydroid upgrade does not fix it. I've confirmed that Waydroid still works when booting into my previous deployment , 39.20240323. Over in #🎮bazzite , user @Krepta has reported an identical issue after running a Bazzite system upgrade at around the same time I did. Note: it seems a similar issue was reported approximately 2 weeks ago, but at that time it was determined to be an upstream issue since there were open bug reports about similar behavior in the Waydroid github at the time, and the reporting user later reported the issue was fixed after a system upgrade. This time around, however, I haven't seen any similar bug reports in the Waydroid github, so not sure if the problem might be on Bazzite's end this time.
