Waydroid fails to start: [gbinder] WARNING: Service manager /dev/binder has died
After upgrading to the most recent bazzite-deck-gnome release, 39.20240328, my previously working Waydroid installation now fails to start: the booting animation appears for a few seconds but then the window closes, while on the command line it shows the following error:
[gbinder] WARNING: Service manager /dev/binder has died
. Upgrading the Waydroid image via waydroid upgrade
does not fix it. I've confirmed that Waydroid still works when booting into my previous deployment , 39.20240323. Over in #🎮bazzite , user @Krepta has reported an identical issue after running a Bazzite system upgrade at around the same time I did.
Note: it seems a similar issue was reported approximately 2 weeks ago, but at that time it was determined to be an upstream issue since there were open bug reports about similar behavior in the Waydroid github at the time, and the reporting user later reported the issue was fixed after a system upgrade. This time around, however, I haven't seen any similar bug reports in the Waydroid github, so not sure if the problem might be on Bazzite's end this time.3 Replies
Same issue on my end under KDE
Doesn't seem to be desktop related then.
This is the error log coming from waydroid log:
The 20240324 image still has a functioning waydroid btw if you need to rebase
I am looking into this next, kernel modules are the same
