amazing! thank you for that breakdown. so is it fair to say that your toes should not be making any contact with the shoe at all? they're more or less touching air inside the shoe when at rest? (ignoring the bottom of the toe of course)

I'm shopping for my first pair of loafers. I went to the AE store and tried on some Randolph pennies and landed on size 11D (I normally buy 11.5 shoes in most brands). I took them home to keep testing them out for longer periods of time (on carpet so I can still return them).
They fit very snug, but not painful, no heel slippage at all. The main thing is my pinky toe feels a bit crushed. It's making full contact with the side of the shoe. When I stand, the leather flexes out a bit over the welt. Is that expected? Does that indicate they're too small?

it's not a ridiculous suggestion! one complication is, despite me saying tupperware earlier, the reality is I try to avoid plastics for food prep so all my stuff is glass

great questions! I'm not sure whether it makes sense to get a second bag for the lunch or to find a bigger bag to carry everything.
generally I like the messenger bag / briefcase style as opposed to backpacks, but the messenger / briefcase form factor doesn't lend itself well to big square food containers. so I guess that's where the dedicated lunchbox comes in?
for general style I like to dress smart business casual, so loafers, trousers, dress shirt and sport coat in more casual colors and fabrics.
budget depends on whether I need a whole new bag or if I'm getting a dedicated 2nd lunch bag, but I could see myself spending 200ish, maybe up to 400 if really necessary
