Building around Alden Color 8 Shell Cordovan LHS penny loafers
I'm looking at picking up my first pair of loafers and I think the choice is Color 8 Shell but a) gosh it's a lot of money b) I'm not confident my current wardrobe can support them
Can they truly be styled with anything? I tried googling fits with these loafers for inspo but didn't find much.
I guess I'm worried about wasting 1k on shoes because I can't figure out what to wear with them.
What approach would you take if you were building a wardrobe to support Color 8 loafers?

in my experience C8 LHS are very very versatile shoes. These are some of my fits all featuring my C8 pair I think there is a decent bit of range to what they can be worn with
not pictured here but they also look great with some jeans and a t-shirt
thank you that's super helpful! part of my problem is I see fits like yours and they look so well put together but I feel like I'm not at that level yet. so if I try to throw on the color 8s with what I currently have (say, a cotton button down and linen shorts) they'll look out of place

I had a similar fear before i bought my pair about them coming off as "too dressy" or just "too much"

yeah inspo is great tons of good stuff in there
I think once you get some time wearing them it becomes very apparent even with the shell loafers are still pretty casual and especially because of how round the toe is on the LHS its they are a super easy shoe to just slot in to a lot of fits.
that's what I keep hearing, which is why I want to go for it. I trust that my taste/wardrobe build will catch up to them
yeah something like that will probably work with what you have and the versatile will keep it as something you can probably wear for a long time as tastes change
going for a used pair is also an option
I have a dealer near me that's given me excellent service so I want to buy at least one pair from him. but once I know my size in that last I'll def use the internet to thrift for other pairs
oh yeah makes total sense, great to support local as well
Definitely try on in person! The van last can be a little tough to fit and they should stock the 986 or whatever the model number is
