How much can you take in gurkha pants/shorts in the waist with the waistband thingy
With classic ones you've got a good several inches of adjustability, indeed

Washi Care
Washi = Japanese paper, mulberry fiber There's blends with like, cotton and saza (bamboo) At least some washi clothing is hand washable in water. Apparently a few cotton-washi pants have care instructions that include machine washing gently - e.g. https://www.sousouus.com/product/straight-cut-pants-cotton-washi-temari-hazelnut-tan/ (Hopefully someone actually knowledgeable can chime in)

Milsurp buying guide
About height: Yeah can be hard to find especially old items in large sizes. But keep in mind that for example with mid 20th century US jackets, the intended length could be down to near the knee, but it might actually look better to wear it shorter. So perhaps you'd be issued Extra Large-Long if you'd been a draftee back in the day, but you'd actually prefer Large Short, or Medium Long. I wear a mix of M/L clothes but my Small M-65 fits nicely. Figuring out what size you enjoy helps!

Milsurp buying guide
Milsurp is a lot of things If you want stuff that just kinda naturally blends in with like anything, including tailored menswear, that's not camo, if you want the more famous things, you probably want to go with older designs, Vietnam War and WWII era - though that doesn't always mean actually 50 years old as you can get replicas, or just pieces that kept on being issued. If you want camo, BDUs, as well as more utilitarian stuff such as bomber jackets and raincoats, then it may actually be in US surplus stores and websites and the like... Buying directly from the makers may be reasonable at times too, particularly Rothco. For some more sites in the same vein as Varusteleka/AP, surplus specialists: - GoMilitar (Lithuania) - Krushchiki Supply Company, Misty Mountain Supply (US, more on the airsoft/tacticool side) - Universal Surplus (France, usually really nice cool stuff at usually higher prices; never bought from them but they're great inspo) - Swiss Link (US, lots of weird random things, sometimes they put shirts on sale for under a dollar lol) You can try finding sites for actual military people, whether in the US or Europe, I've bought from the UK's https://forcesuniformandkit.co.uk/ which can be amazing value; friends recommend https://www.bundeswehr-und-mehr.de/ where you used to be able get dirt cheap GATs when they were in stock and shippable... Among replica companies What Price Glory and atthefront.com are highly regarded for quality and value; Bronson is good. All three have tons of interesting ~WWII designs.

Floral and Hawaiian Shirts! - Topic of the day 5/19/24
I rather like some of the aloha shirts from Okinawa https://www.myokinawastory.com/kariyushi-wear/?r https://www.asahi.com/sp/ajw/articles/photo/46164049 (some time I should pick out notable ones from media/friends for inspo)

Floral and Hawaiian Shirts! - Topic of the day 5/19/24
Aloha shirts are wonderful, I love how they look and the multicultural history they represent, I can't get enough... Don't think I've really done fit pics in them but it's getting warmer so let's go! I also haven't worn them tucked often but clearly that is the way it was done https://alittlebitofrest.com/2017/05/06/casual-summer-style-with-aloha-shirts/ so would be nice to go in that direction! I think the simple floral/fish/other wildlife patterns, often with few colors (just 2 works!) that were first popular in Hawaii are probably the best place to start. And the pocket matching the print is nice. (Btw the locally made 'aloha' shirts in Hawaii are not always camp collars, there's lots of button downs and point collars... :AmeliaSmugSmol:) And personally I think I've found it not hard to find aloha shirts, even specifically made in Hawaii classic ones, on eBay at good prices, but even more so in person 😛 Like, if anything they're one of the few items that's always there?

Would this military replica smock work in place of J Crew's military inspired smock?
What Price Glory is generally speaking very true to the originals from what I hear from a bunch of people (including reenactors), one of the best. Could mean the construction is a tiny bit sloppy here and there, just like the real deal... fashion brands might actually do the details better at times. Even if that's the case who would we be to complain with their prices tho 😛

Brands with "short" OCBDs? Is that a thing?
Yeah that's the thing^ Below the fly is perfectly normal for shirts - most of my OCBDs reach about the crotch seam - since originally they're very much meant to be tucked in. For summer Ivy fits both tucked (even into shorts) and untucked (becomes kinda like a field jacket) works: https://oxfordclothbuttondown.com/2024/04/shorts-on-the-horizon/ You probably can find some like mall/store brands with shorter OCBDs (Land's End?) but that's just not what they're about imo

Collection Series: Shoes - Topic of the day 4/29/24
Fair fair. Red Wings are the default boot regardless here I feel like, but I'm around some people who do need work boots; actually I regularly hear the complaints that Red Wing isn't tough enough! Personally I've got a history of owning surplus shoes and currently have those Soviet Navy ones... I'm used to sturdy! I want the fun footwear I get that's not going to hold up to as much to be something light. Probably not boots 😛

I feel like the loafers match your style. Loafers in general, anyone's really but more so if you can be anywhere near Ivy... I was surprised you don't have black loafers, though maybe that's a misconception. There's so many boots where do you (we) even start choosing? Maybe the Red Wings are not the most exciting but they look neat ...

Naturally I'd like to get 1. loafers 2. Derbies or such. But they'll need to fit snug and be affordable so it might be some time before I do... and meanwhile I'll probably also buy some more boots cuz they look cool. More sneakers would be nice but I think I need to learn the sneaker visual language first 🙂 Not shown: biig hiking boots, winter/rain boots, sandals

I associate red in clothes foremost with... Chinese New Year. And so I really could use a good red sweater or jacket or something (barely have anything red as is, unfortunately lol).
