Looking for hoodie/trainer suggestions
champion reverse weave and camber sweatshirts tend to hold up a lot better against pilling and whatnot from my experience - i'd recommend them or something similar if you want something that'll last awhile. i personally don't see the value proposition of buying something significantly beyond that (e.g., japanese loopwheeled hoodies). there's nothing wrong with brands like gildan and russell either - for something more on the cheaper side, i do really like the style of american apparel's reflex hoodie

Is black friday a scam or should I be paying attention?
Good points in the above. If you know you aren't (too crazy of) an impulse shopper and have a good understanding of your style it can be a good time to pick up some pieces which would typically be outside your price range.
Make sure where ever you're shopping from has a good return policy (especially look out for "no returns on discounted items") and at worst you're out $10-30.
PutThisOn usually publishes a good list of sales by the way. Here was last year's list if you're interested: https://www.putthison.com/every-black-friday-sale-worth-seeing-6/

Looking to get a pair of secondhand big pants
you're probably going to have difficulty finding a pair of pants like that secondhand. the drawstring hem at the bottom is more typical of fatigue pants which usually have cargo pockets and no pleats
for ebay in general, it might make sense to include the measurements in the search and click include description. such as "pleated pants (10,10.5,11) (12.5,13,13.5) (32,34,36)." the first numbers being the hem, the second the rise, and the third the waist

Trouser Material Differences
100% linen is better for the hot weather because its breathable and cool to the touch but it wrinkles a ton. imo unless you just prefer the look of the fabric or have experience with overheating then the blend would probably be more versatile
