it is very easy to install ratos, the above "complicated" instructions are to help you with something that went wrong. If you're getting this weird behavior after a fresh flashing of the card I would suggest getting a new card, a new pi, try on a different network... something else is interfering

Update to new version
if you're nervous about a new version, remove the sd card and flash 2.1 to a new one. If anything goes poorly you can put the old card in and be right back where you were

That makes a lot of sense. If he still needs yo uon the 2.1 beta you'll want his help, otherwise the above would get you onto the "correct" branch

Hm. If you are intentionally in the dev branch then you are taking your life into your own hands 😛 If you want the latest from the deploymen branch try: 
cd ~/ratos-configurator
git fetch
git switch -f v2.1.x-deployment
ratos doctor
cd ~/ratos-configurator
git fetch
git switch -f v2.1.x-deployment

the missing file being in the configurator makes me suspect something with the updating. Can you ssh into the pi and run ratos doctor?

I've only used that to verify it it getting power, or to tell which one is which. Does that validate correct movement?

Okay, reading through I think I'd not be of any use. Also have never done a hybrid setup. And so many things have been tried and swapped I'd want to physically rewire it from scratch. Is there any way to verify each stepper driver and stepper movement? Like, is every stepper actually working?

Try printing and you'll get your answer. The end goal is to get good prints, so if you aren't getting nice first layers, or dimensionally acurate parts, then revisit error messages. The bed variance being under a layer height should be fine, but if the frame is twisted you may end up with twisted parts. Could look at the calilantern
