Who's making a cool GAT nowadays?
Reproduction of found gats are great and imo better than margiela for the kind of wardrobe described in mfas guides. I’ve always thought all the designer details on the margielas made them look really weird under typical workwear

Chore Coat Recommendations
The denim chore coat was an icon of American workwear - you can find vintage ones with tags labelled things like "Big Mac" or "Hercules" or lots of other random old companies. These can sometimes be expensive, but here's an example of a decent looking one that's not too bad:

Chore Coat Recommendations
For American rather than French style chore coats, Stan Ray and Tellason have great options. For something in between you can look for the Evan Kinori "3 pocket jacket" secondhand

which fabric would you choose for a chore coat, indigo sashiko or olive wool?
Whereas the sashiko will go on and off your arms/shoulders without a problem

which fabric would you choose for a chore coat, indigo sashiko or olive wool?
Is the wool unlined? I often find rougher wool fabrics like that to be very annoying to wear without lining

Outfit Ideas
could wear over a white tee, black jeans, and any color of docs or other leather derbies for a sort of Noah NY alt-prep inspired look.
You could take it in a more "mensweary", dad-workwear direction over a plaid shirt, blue jeans, and boots like blundstones.
You could also wear it over turtlenecks or shetland sweaters, wool slacks, and loafers for a kind of aloof academic vibe.

Comfortable button-up shirts
Yeah you’ve got a lot of casual options. Formal I’d start with those kent Wang long sleeve polos as opposed to a jersey dress shirt

Comfortable button-up shirts
Chambray and denim shirts can feel very soft if prewashed. Corduroy, chamois, and flannels are good options for cooler weather, they are all quite soft and cozy

Comfortable button-up shirts
Finally, you should know that if you have a more formal dress code to meet, while jersey dress shirts exist, the clash in formality between the material and cut is imo pretty obvious and wouldn’t be my recommendation unless they’re the very last option. Those lady white button downs (or Kent Wang long sleeve polos) would be a better place to start and should suit smart casual / bizcaz dress codes

Comfortable button-up shirts
You should be aware that fabrics like oxford, flannel, denim, chambray, needlecord, and even some twills are supposed to feel a little rough at first, and are meant to soften when you wear them over time - the initial roughness is not an indicator of low quality.

Polos are made of pique fabric which can feel like tee jersey - lady white co makes a pique button down long sleeve that might be up your alley
