Favorite thrift store find - Topic of the day 9/24/23
What's the best item (or items) you've ever found in a thrift store? Show it off and share a fit with you wearing it. Where did you find it? Any tips for finding great items at the thrift store?

I thrift a lot and live in a good area for it so I find a lot of good stuff. A few good recent ish finds, Shoes Like Pottery for $1.99, Cucinelli tee and a mainline Rick tee both for under 10.
Best tip is consistency, you have to go a lot to find stuff and you have to be willing to search for it. I personally love spending an hour or two searching every rack, but it can get tiring.
These handmade selvedge jeans were also a great recent find that ended up with @digdug04
I live in a terrible area for thrifting, ruralish Midwest. So I'm not really finding designer things for dirt cheap or anything like that. So my fave is def this sweater I grabbed a few years back for a few dollars. I wear it pretty regularly but unfortunately I don't have a fit pic yet
Great sweater, its always fun to come across funky vintage stuff like that
Im also never gonna forget the guy who came into DQ a while back and had thrifted an Archivio J.M. Ribot jacket at a thrift store in Alabama
I'm going to rule that eBay counts as the world's biggest thrift store, and say these RL pants. They were my first eBay purchase, they fit perfectly, and they got me hooked on buying second-hand.
Grungey dead shirt that I’ve added an absurd amount of darning to to make wearable.
I can smell the patchouli from here
thats an awesome find
I have a whole lot, ones I wear the most are trousers and shoes from this fit
And the boots from this one
Trousers are probably handmade, tagless and just seem like someone with a sewing machine
And the boots are vintage cabela actually
I'll also mention my most recent eBay find, which I just bought today and haven't even received yet. I think is a perfect example of why you shouldn't search by brand, because you'll miss out on so much unique stuff.
if we're talking specifically thrifting, this turtleneck and PRL chinos came from a VVal and have acted as extremely strong bases for my fits for a while. I also found a perforated poly shirt that has lace shirt vibes for the summer, which I've been beating the shit out of.
Shirt seen here, kinda
This tagless wool skirt.
Really opened my third eye to skirt supremacy
I have many other "vintage finds" that I love, but getting stuff from curated shops where pieces are over 30 dollars does not feel like it carries the essence of a "true find" in a sense
This one is fantastic
Solid finds my friend
Thanks! Honestly I wish I found more fun vintage stuff.
This jacket is probably the nicest thing I've ever thrifted and also objectively far too large for me. I'm going to give it to a friend bc as much as I love it I'm probably never going to wear it lmao
Like 70% of my wardrobe is sourced from thrift stores. But I think my absolute favorite and most worn are these 3 summer shirts
If it's not fall or winter there's a very high chance I'm wearing any of these 3 shirts lmao
The amount of places I’ve gotten into with a thrifted security jacket and a clipboard.
8 dollars and I wear them to death
Shoe finds are so good at the thrift
People see an old pair of shoes that just needs a good condition and think it’s garbage
📠
I have so many cool little loafers and boots Ive picked up from random thrift stores
Even if they arent BIG leather brands sometimes the cheaper stuff can look better when beat up a bit and reconditioned
I think my most worn loafers are some old beat to shit Bass I thrifted and cleaned up
i got this harris tweed balmacaan for something like $30 in 2018
Everything I own is thrifted/secondhand but by far my biggest come ups were brand new Bottega boots that I found for $6 and a solid gold charm bracelet that I found for $10. Got my balenciaga boots for $30 and my margiela blazer for $40.. could go on and on.
I wear this coat basically every day in the winter so overall that's probably my best thrift find. Swedish milsurp
I bought a Swedish fishtail parka once from some online milsurp place (Hessian Something?) and like an idiot, didn’t immediately wash it and let it sit in my closet for a good long while. Almost four years later and I STILL have months in my house wreaking havoc. PSA: Wash your thrifted goods. Don’t pay the idiot tax like I did. 🥲
It was Hessen Antiques out of Marietta, GA. Fuck those guys.
Got this little silver and turquoise bangle today for $7
This suit was a thrift find. $15 in 2012 or so, English wool flannel from a local tailor. Wrangler shirt was a find last summer, I was a little leery because I am a little baby, but it’s incredibly wearable.
There's some really nice wrangler shirts on eBay, in proper dress shirt sizes, which surprised me.
I wish more casual shirts were sized that way, but apparently your options are navy blazer and yee haw.
Something deeply satisfying about ripping open the snap buttons at the end of a day too
