I have one Red Line and one Filarte core suit. I would call it a major quality difference. The Red Line suit (navy hopsack from last year) is as good as you can hope for for $300, but has hallmarks of a cheap suit like lower arm-holes and stiffer, scratchier fabric. I'm happy with it for what it is, but I see it as a placeholder until I can put money into something better.
The Filarte suit (medium grey sharkskin, contemporary, from 2023) is more like "I can't believe this was only $400". The cut is miles better, well-proportioned, even came with a nice lapel roll that didn't survive its first dry cleaning. It's my favourite suit I've ever had, and I'll be holding on to it for a while if I can. The Filarte fabric is still a compromise though. It's comfortable and looks good after pressing, but it's a bit flimsy if that makes sense (wrinkles quickly and picks up nicks and pulled threads more easily than I'd like). I have Spier trousers in VBC fabric, and they tend to hold up a lot better.
I don't know whether the VBC suit is just the same cut as the core suits in better fabric, but it looks pretty similar. It may be worth the cost if you're going to be wearing this often, but that’s up to you.

Does this work as a sport coat?
It is, isn't it. Good thing I did a sanity check. I was definitely blinded by the fact that it's super cheap 😆

High Quality Poloshirts for wide shoulders
I don't know how their polos are, but O'Connell's is know for catering to larger sizes
