Help with new suit
I have lost some weight (40-50 pounds) recently and realized the suits I have no longer fit well. I am considering either having the suits I already have taken in, or just buying a new one. I only really need one suit and would much prefer one of good quality over several cheap ones. I’ve bought stuff from Suit Supply and Proper Cloth before and had good results, so I’m thinking of using one of them again, but I’ve never actually bought a suit from either place. I can spend $1,000 but would prefer not to spend more if I can help it. I only wear suits 4-5 times a year at most. I’m tall and thin, 6’3” and 160 pounds. My questions: 1. How important is full canvassing vs. half? I want something that’s a really good fit, but again, I don’t wear them that often so does canvassing really do anything if I’m not wearing it every week? 2. How much am I going to notice the difference between something like this Loro Piana suit (https://propercloth.com/tailored-clothing/loro-piana-fabric-grey-s150s-mercer-suit-27346.html) and this one (https://propercloth.com/tailored-clothing/loro-piana-fabric-grey-s150s-mercer-suit-27346.html), or between this one (https://suitsupply.com/en-us/men/suits/navy-lazio-suit/P6159.html) and this one (https://suitsupply.com/en-us/men/suits/navy-lazio-suit/C4778-S.html)? 3. How important is it to go to a physical store for a fitting vs. measuring myself at home? I measured myself at 36L but have only ever worn 38L at the weight I’m at now. Suit Supply has a store close to me, but Proper Cloth does not. 4. Going back to the option of tailoring, if the jackets still fit decently well at the shoulders, is this a good option? The suits I have are not high quality (think Men’s Wearhouse), but they’re not in bad shape, either. And if I go this route, what would the costs be, and how do I find out if a tailor is worth using or not?

Looking for something similar to a Burberry Kensington trench coat without the price tag
Hi, I recently purchased a wool overcoat for cold weather, but I’m realizing with this fall rain we are getting in the Midwest that I don’t have much of a dressy option for rainy days. I really like Burberry’s Kensington coat (https://us.burberry.com/long-kensington-heritage-trench-coat-p80583341) but can’t justify the price, and it doesn’t appear to be available in my size (38L) anyway. I looked on eBay, and there is a used Burberry in my size for $225, so I could do that, but I also wonder if there are any solid new options from different brands that look similar but perhaps aren’t as expensive. I’d probably be willing to give $500.

Cashmere or wool overcoat (or blend)?
Looking at buying an overcoat for fall/winter from Suit Supply. I live in Illinois where it gets cold in the winter but not like it would in Minnesota or Sweden. I need a custom fit due to my body proportions (think NBA point guard) and noticed that they have $599 100% wool coats and $999 100% cashmere coats, or a 50/50 blend for $799. I don’t care much about the price; I do want something that will be warm and last a long time. I’d likely wear it 4-5 times a week during the winter months. Which one should I buy?

Winter dress jacket for a tall, thin man
Me: 6’3”, 165 lb, live in Midwest US I lost my last dress jacket in March and so I didn’t really care about replacing it since I knew the weather was going to get warm soon. Now I’m thinking about next winter, and knowing that I’ll likely need something tailored due to my body type (along with bring tall and thin, I have long arms even for my height; I bought an off the rack 40L and had to return it because it was way too big, especially around the waist), I’m thinking I’ll need to order something within the next month or two to ensure it’s here before it gets cold. I was looking at Suit Supply, and I can go that route if needed (and getting measured in person would be really nice), but I’d really like to not have to spend like $600 if I can avoid doing so. The guardsman coat and polo coat both look nice to me. I’d likely want to buy something similar to one of those. Does anyone have suggestions for getting something quality without having to spend that much money, or do I just need to pony up?
