Brooks Brothers Explorer Suits

Obviously S&M or another might be better, but I can actually try on a BB explorer whereas with S&M I won’t know if it fits until it arrives. Also BB has a few sales a year on the explorer stuff that brings it down to S&M prices. Just wondering if y’all think it’s worth buying in any situation

Did the tailor ruin this suit?

No it feels fantastic. If anything it feels slightly to large in the shoulders but visibly it doesn’t look too big, at least I don’t think. When my wife picks up the back of my collar and pulls it closer to my hair it solves the whole problem which is why I thought maybe the collar should come down.

How can I actually fix this? What does a tailor need to do? And now they’ll have to solve the poor looking seam on the back too. Sucks

I asked for her to take in the sides, hem the sleeves to the wrist to show only about a quarter inch of sleeve (I had a shirt on) and asked if she could lower the collar slightly to resolve the bunching on the back due to my square shoulders. She told me that she doesn’t touch collars, but that she has solved this issue multiple times by letting out the upper back and taking in slightly the lower back. I asked if she really had done this with success and she said she had a client who had to do this with all of his suits. Actually, when I picked it up today it looked worse, she actually took it back and adjusted it again at my request while I was still there. When it still looked bad, I realized it was just out of her skill set.

Also, for what it’s worth, considering a lot of my fashion issue has to do with fit and I just lost a substantial amount of weight and intend to lose a considerable amount more weight, and this directly affects the fit of my clothes, I did find the advice helpful and relevant

Thank you! And yeah I kinda figured comparing their work to price was the way to go. At least in the case of the first jacket I posted, there’s really nothing to lose there because it’s already an awful jacket as others have noted, so it won’t be a bust if the tailor makes it somehow worse

Any tips on how to know if your tailor is legit or if they just talk a big game? I bought that first grey suit to a tailor that charged quite a bit and man, I was so disappointed with the work. All he did was bring in the sides and taper the sleeves, I was really hoping for someone who would help me analyze what was wrong with the fit and how to solve it

Thanks friend! Yeah it’s been wild I’ve dropped about 45 lbs so far. You think it would be smart to just wait until I’m where I want to be before I spend anymore on jackets/suits?

Yeah the first jacket is completely unstructured; which is probably why it exhibits the problem the worst. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to have a tailor put padding into an unstructured jacket.. at least probably not around where I am
