Questions on terrain generation
Ok, so the mod runs fantastic, even on high settings. ...On a pre-generated server world.
However, as soon as the mod has to generate new chunks, it... Has problems. It takes a long time, and the generation is bizzare. It often leaves massive holes or loads random bits of land kilometers away.
So I wanted to ask a few questions on how exactly it works.
I would have assumed this mod uses some kind of heuristic to quickly generate LOD estimates of faraway chunks - the lower the LOD level, the faster the LOD generation. Does it outright generate full world chunks, and then crunches them into LOD meshes? Does it make no data distinction between chunks generated for LODs and regular chunks - do LOD chunks need to be stored within the game world files? Because then yes, it would take ages to generate really far.
Although the generation process is slow, I'm having stable 60 fps. While I see my CPU at 100%, perhaps I can shift the load around to make distant world generation happen faster? Can you explain how the advanced settings work in this regard? I just set it to
Finally, if I start up my own dedicated server, I assume I can offload the world generation onto server CPU? Can I somehow integrate it with this mod? For example, make it generate chunks for the LODs? Or perhaps there is some kind of tool to force terrain generation in certain areas? Like, tell it to generate a big 20k by 20k square between coordinates overnight? I'd at least like to have the terrain around my house pre-generated to get a good long view.
