their biggest linux userbase is not gamers, its people and companies with big server farms for computation

because nvidia is a big corporation and it doesn't make too much sense for them to support a platform that is
a) extremely different from windows, and
b) barely has any userbase compared to windows

not sure if/how much that improved with newer GPUs but I had a shit ton of issues with a 1070 that just didn't exist on windows
switched to AMD and the issues suddenly vanished

its not about the performance (as you said, as good as windows), its about the drivers being very bad and causing instability and random breakage
