Picking up new hardware for a home server
Hello,
Since I updated my home server to 1.20, we are experiencing lag and other "coughups". I feel like we're reaching the end of what my current hardware can do. I tried everything I could to expand it's lifetime but alas nothing last forever.
I'm not up to date on what's the best CPU on the market for Minecraft. The current hardware I have is very old (10 years old in fact) and had a great running but as I'll get a higher paycheck due to changing jobs, I feel like there is no better time to switch to something more powerful.
I've been looking into AMD Cpus, specifically the Ryzen 9 familly, they have a very high clock speed, which sounds great for Minecraft. But at the same time, Ryzen 9 uses AMD5 that only supports DDR5. From what I've gathered, while CPU-wise it will be a straight upgrade, I'm not too sure about it RAM-Wise. DDR5 is pretty new and it shows in terms of CLs (Ill be going from 10 to 40 !).
So my question would be : is it the right time to upgrade ? Should I go for these brand-new hardware or use AMD4/DDR4 instead (more cheap and reliable) ?
If you have any other tips or new info about hardware for Minecraft, I'll all hears. Most of my knowledge is from 6 to 5 years ago now.
Thanks.
Current specs :
Intel Core i5-4570 (3.2 GHz)
24gb of RAM 1600 MHz CL10 (8gb dedicated to the server)
Running on a Debian system
