need help with open parties and claims mod - fabric server config - mainly perms
I have found next to no info online for this mod (https://modrinth.com/mod/open-parties-and-claims), and am not familiar enough with minecraft modding/standards. The vast majority of info for it is in the config files and in game gui. I saw some people here talking about it, so here I am. My goal with it is a couple things: - let users define their "claims" though they dont need protection - have those claims on a map - have multiple server/admin claims that are protected, with only allowed players being able to edit them. normal approved users, not operators I like this mod for those applications. I do not want to have an external map showing the whole world to everyone. (actual problem) The problem I am having is with the server claims. How do I whitelist people through the server claims?
I was debating an admin account claiming them, then player/parties allied with it can use those claims. But the limitations of the party system mean that would only work for 1 claim at a time. If I have more than 1 "server" claim then it will give access to all of them. Another piece of the puzzle may be the perms system? but I dont understand what is going on with it. heres what it says in the config:
#The permission system to use for everything that requires permission checks (e.g. permission_api, ftb_ranks, luck_perms, prometheus). Non-built-in permission systems can be registered through the API with an addon.
permissionSystem = "prometheus"
#The permission system to use for everything that requires permission checks (e.g. permission_api, ftb_ranks, luck_perms, prometheus). Non-built-in permission systems can be registered through the API with an addon.
permissionSystem = "prometheus"
I am currently using a perms mod called player roles. https://modrinth.com/mod/player-roles I dont understand how the perms here work, or how I might make it use mine? I was having issues with the fabric form of luckperms, which is why I am using player roles instead. It essentially gives access to commands. I am not sure how to proceed here. Wish there was more docs for the mod. Thank you in advance 🙂

with luckperms and fabric, and the only permission groups minecraft.* and luckperms.* ?
I want to have the default role have 0 commands whatsoever for now, and the admin to have all commands. I was going to just remove/add entire plugin perm groups as I go through installing them, but am not sure what "groups" of perms are already on the server.
I know minecraft.* and luckperms.* exist, but are there any other command groupings I am missing for now? having difficulty finding info for this Thanks in advance 🙂

do I need a dedicated IP to have a custom IP?
am I going to need to pay for a dedicated 25565 port from my server host in order to use a custom IP? I dont know exactly how it works obv, but I assume I will need to go get a domain from somewhere. But if I am getting my own domain do I even need the port at all?

looking for hosts, couple questions I couldnt find easy answers to yet.
Hi, I have been looking around for server hosts for a smaller server for me and friends. Feel like this is pretty common, but not asking for recs necessarily. The plan is to move it off realms right now since the world is large, want plugins, and dislike Microsoft. Within the next 6 months the plan is to build our own server hardware.
first question: I notice all the hosts use various panels, some of which are similar or seemingly built off the same software. Multicraft seems to be one. are the other "standard" panels? I assume using the more popular panels will make management troubleshooting easier for me to find resources for. second: one thing that I need in a server is full control over the branding. the potential to get a custom IP, change the icon, desc, etc... do most hosts do this? It is hard to tell. What keywords am I looking for? "dedicated IP included" I think just means it will stay static? third: I dont know how demanding a server is in terms of ram specifically. From what I have seen ~4gb is fine for one instance? I may want to run harder modpacks, and have ~10 ppl on consistently. Should I try for more ram to reduce lag/chunk loading/other significantly? Most recourses I have found say its "fine" but I would prefer to at performance at least slightly above a realms server. Will more ram be necessary? Thank you so much in advance 🙂 I assume these are common questions, but the research I found was confusing or from places hard to trust getting accurate info from.
