Swapping drives in a software raid 10 array
in fact, it's actually "better" to not duplicate, because unless the drive is 100% full, the copy would do more than needed too.
and generally when you go to replace, it'd assume the new drive is either empty or not valid, so it'd discard the state it is in

But probably OOM if no logs, since that system kills with no warning. Dmesg can check that
