Brand Spotlight: Ralph Lauren (Polo Ralph Lauren, RRL, Purple Label) - Topic of the day 11/7/24
For better or worse, Ralph Lauren's impact has been seen in fashion, media, and society for over 50 years. What are your thoughts on Ralph Lauren and its various diffusion lines (Polo, RRL, Purple Label, etc.) here - their clothes, the quality ("quality") of their designs, the horse logo, Polo Bear, shifts over time, what the brand symbolizes, and more.

Rl one of the fashion brands if all time
the bear is funky
Polo bear cute, horse kinda mid but overhated
Also this prompt is Lauren Ralph Lauren erasue 👿
Good Lauren Ralph Lauren one of the worst decisions Ralph Lauren ever made
true
I mean RL is iconic americana obviously, they get away with a lot shit other brands catch flak for, they are huge and honestly the majority of their clothes are misses, but they make so much in kinda the "classics" they have something for everyone
and are widely available, cheap used, and overall pretty good clothes
though i cannot fathom anyone paying retail for their stuff
goat secondhand brand right up there with the military industrial complex
:linkYeah:
I'll share some of my thoughts about the brand... When I get home.
dude put my name on some pants but i hear they're good pants
Well hello there, Washed Stretch Slim Fit
PRL probably is the most represented brand in my wardrobe atp . Most, if not all of it, is second hand but there’s two or three pieces I bought at retail because they just spoke to me immediately.
I agree with smiles though that most of the items are misses. Whenever Ralph’s western/workwear/ivy influences really shine through and it’s not just bullshit finance bro clothing that’s the good stuff.
And with the past like 3 collections there always have been bangers in there even though many items are better in concept than in actual execution.
Examples: the distressed chino I got at retail and it’s one of my fav pieces currently
The Biedermeier inspired hat is cool in concept but too much of a costume piece to actually work imo
Double standard with RL and Bode about appropriation of native culture.
Bode clown suit is appropriating my native culture since I’m a fucking clown
But also yeah. Some of the western influences are very much native culture appropriated and honestly I don’t see why that needs to be the case. There’s plenty of good stuff in western culture that isn’t directly tied to native culture anymore.
never gonna be able to wear my polo hat again smh
Bleach tf out of it and see what happens
I was aware of the native cultural appropriation stuff a little bit
But I didn't know the extent of it
the bear is goofy
never heard of it
Interested to hear other opinions because most of what I know of the brand is from the ivy series in Articles of Interest, which was basically a big love letter to Ralph Lauren.
Not counting the licensed goods and department store mainline stuff, Ralph collections are always amazing. And it’s hard to find a better retail experience than going into any of the different lines’ branded stores. It’s like stepping into another world.
Their storytelling ability through different collections is second to none
Same with their product development process
RRL is the best label of Ralph Laurent currently imo. Fun styling and a cool webpage. I’m more of a Japanese repro guy myself so I have limited experience with RRL but it’s fun
rrl goode, vintage prl goode, cultural appropriation bad
I'll be here all day for more hot takes
rrl chinos is the only chinos i own, i dont know what makes a good chino and what doesn't but i feel good wearing them
I went on holidays to America in 2005 and spent all my savings on PRL polos so I could look like Kanye West (I am white and Irish)
